The Axis was a very interesting alliance. Their goals were direct attacks on the other yet they still found the need to be allies simply because they hated the Soviets and Americans. Really goes to show that no matter what, an common foe is what can get the most unlikely allies with goals that contradict eachother no less to be allies in common foe.

They started out as morally complex and highly interesting characters in the Modern Age arc of the series. The German Empire, the Kingdom of Italy and Meiji- and Taishō Japan. They were some of my favorite characters in the show, I was an especially big fan of Japan. Ever since the start of the Medieval Age arc she has had some really cool character development and been pretty hardcore. But the way she was able to pull of a whole industrial revolution so fast despite being in such a poor situation made her my favorite character. The end of the Samurai was a bit sad, they were a really cool part of her character but hadn't really done much since the Unification Arc so I understood why they were removed. They went out with a blast though and their legacy remains strong. I really loved how she blended her culture with western culture, it made her a very unique character. I am glad they didn't have her become just another colony or become completely westernized. But Germanys rivalry with Britain was probably the most interesting plot point. All the rivalries in Europe were great! So much tension for so long had me at the edge of my seat and when they all finally came to blows it didn't dissapoint. I must say, it felt weird to see her give up her Holy Roman Empire identity. She had had it for so long and it had been part of some of the greatest storylines throughout the series. The Carolingian dynasty, the Crusades, the 30 Years War and the Napoleonic Wars. But her new character arc was really interesting, if a bit short. She had a really cold yet aggressive style, a real fire and ice character. She never backed down and it was nice to see someone challange the British Empire now that France was a not only weakened but also friendlier with England (always knew England and France had a thing for each other). Italy was a solid character as well, she always was and I was really glad to see her become united again after being devided for so long. She really hadn't been whole since the Fall of Rome storyline way back in the Age of Antiquity arc. God her split personality arc was so damn long! However, she really kept to herself in the Great War storyline and I was a little dissapointed she didn't get more involved with the overall story. Still, she was pretty active before it and did have a go at Austria-Hungary during the war, and there was some nice political intrigue afterwards. Then the three had the biggest villain arcs the show had ever seen! I really didn't expect them to turn so evil, I was legit afraid at times. And they did without it feeling forced. It felt belivable, as well as tragic with Germany. I really felt sad for Germany after the WW1 finale. She went from being such a strong and proud person to being humiliated and blamed for everything which was so unfair! No one person can be blamed for that war! It was mainly France who blamed Germany and more or less pushed everyone to side with them. It made me so mad at France, like come on girl I get you're mad but you did fucked up things as well. I was glad US stood up for Germany even if it didn't work out. I wasn't suprised Germany turned into a bad guy at the end, all of that despair and depression could break anyone. But by God I didn't think she would turn that evil! The oppression, ambition and not to mention the cheer inhuman levels of hatred she demonstrated was terrifying. She had always been aggressive and militaristic but she now took it to a whole new level. I was horrified seeing the monster Germany had turned into. The things she preeched and did, she slaughtered millions of people for just not fitting her views of beauty. She had become such a twisted version of who she used to be because of how desperate she was to regain her past pride and glory. Millions burned, all hope turned to dust and so many dreams faded away. I actually cried at times. A part of me was glad that she paid France back though. Seeing her cower before the monster she helped create was really cool and well written. But at the same time, her defeat made me wonder if Europe would ever stand a chance. Japan just went crazy though. She did a full 180 from heading towards being a democratic character to becoming so freaking evil she even suprised Germany at times. She had always gone pretty hard on the whole dying with honor stuff but the kamikaze thing was just nuts. And the shit she did in China, especially Nanjing, it was so disgusting. It isn't that I couldn't see her becoming a a villain, I could, but she went so hard, at times even harder than Germany but without having much reason to. I guess it is to show how corrupting power can be as well the dangers of unchecked pride and group pressure. Still, I think they went a bit far at times. Either way, seeing a long time favourite turn into a villain, and such a unsympathetic one, after having had such beautiful growth sucked. Italys villain arc wasn't as hardcore as the others nor as shocking. The signs that something bad was gonna happen were pretty clear early on. There were for Germany as well, but with Germany there were also moments where she seemed to be contemplating stepping off that path. Italy didn't have such moments but also didn't go as nuts as her two allies. She went nuts, don't get me wrong and she was terribly evil. She was oppressive and cruel enough to give Germany ideas. But she was never as hateful as Germany nor as perverted as Japan was at times. She also wasn't as powerful as them either. She was even more obssesed with her past glories than Germany though, trying to recreate ancient Roman traditions. She had been dreaming of recreating the Roman Empire/Republic ever since the Renaissance arc. Like Germany I felt bad for her during the Fascist arc. I mean, she used to be such a beautiful and strong person during the Roman Arc, she went through such an incredible transformation only to suffer such a undignified end. She kinda just gave up after that, became split and didn't really know who she was and spent so much time fighting herself while trying to sort out the mess she had become while the remnants of her glorious past decayed. Then came the Renaissance arc and she rediscovered herself a bit. She regained some of her past beauty and wisdom and shared it with others, inspiring them. Eventually she even managed to put her life back togheter and I felt so proud of her. But she still longed for a return to her old greatness, especially seeing how others around her were creating such huge empires and regularly comparing themselves to who she used to be. They were all talking about how great she once was, how beautiful she used to be. She wished to return to that and tried so hard and finally became obsessed with it in her Fascist Arc. She thought she finally had done it but really she was deluding herself. She was her past self as she would have appeared in a dirty cracked mirror. I am glad their stories didn't end here and that they got amazing redemption arcs. I was suprised they were able to turn good after all that they did but it was great to see it happen. I hope Russia can finally get such a redemption as well.

idk why but this animations are always cool! and i wish ther be a game where the war was basicly fliped....where the germans, italians and japanes (+maybe russians) deffended smaller countrys that USA, france britan and later on russia where attacking, and in that game u be playing as one of the main axes nations and like in most games slowly move forword till the war was over....like in most ww2 based games

The rising sun known as the Japanese's war flag is not their national flag during the empire it is there war flag that's probably why it's not there
