This so a large reason I can’t stand organized religion. So often it’s used to justify hatred, oppression, war, etc. congregants also so often listen to a preacher, imam, rabbi, whomever without reading the texts for themselves then claim this or that is within that book making their crap ok. They also (at least in America) use the King James Bible a notoriously inaccurate translation of a translation of a translation going back who knows how many times. It’s like that old game telephone. Then go on to claim it’s the word if God. The titles of the books tell you right there it’s not. Mathew wrote Mathew, Luke wrote Luke and so on

The amount of people I see bringing up the "Slavery was good because life in Africa bad!!!" Point kills a little piece of my soul every time I hear it... Only difficult thing with the Bible in relation to slavery though is that it's never declared sinful? Even back in the days of Mosaic law, slavery was perfectly okay according to Moses and the Israelites (whether or not you consider Mosaic law to reflect the will of God depends on your personal interpretation, so I won't say one way or the other). The most that Jesus says regarding slavery is that masters should be kind to their slaves and vice versa, but it just feels weird to place the bar so low. Especially when you'd eventually have people who think that enslaving Africans and shipping them across the Atlantic constitutes "kindness"... It's a difficult topic for sure.
