Those of us who were around for the 80's remember Pat and her music very well. One also has to give credit to her husband, Neil Giraldo, an underrated guitarist and songwriter.
This was her first big hit in the late 70s and has become her signature song. That's her doing all the background vocals too. She's classically trained as an operatic singer.
Her mother was an opera singer but gave it up to raise her children. Pat grew up hearing opera singers & loved singing. She almost settled into a boring life with her first husband. One day she went to a concert by Liza and was inspired to get back to her love of singing & go for it.
GJ on the reaction. Pat defined what a rock artist should be like during the 80's. She's not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. And at this point she's basically said F'em. She still deserves to be there. It's a crime that she's not.
My friends played this at the talent show when I was in 11th grade & this song was new. They tore the house down & easily won. Several of them went on to careers in music. Live your dream.
90 pounds of 5 octave fire....I think you are ready for the most rocking song she did( my opinion)....” Promises in the Dark”.Lead guitarist in the blue shirt became her husband,Spyder. And “ Love is a Battlefield” is a great one, too.
I know you said you like other tidbits, and I don’t know if someone else has said this, but Pat was an opera trained singer! Also, thanks for loving everyone from her to Karen Carpenter. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, I loved them both, and everyone in between. Thanks for making me not look so weird with my eclectic music taste! If people are good, they’re good!!!
Wow, saw her at Irvine meadows in the 80’s and she was so tiny but then blew us away live!! This album and song broke the radio, couldnt get enough, Pat, Debbie, Joan, Crissie, Stevie, Great Era of Female rock and new wave voices! ❤️🎶
Heartbreaker was the song that killed disco and brought music back to life. If you want to see how good her rock voice got you should listen to her later 80s work. I recommend "Don't Walk Away" to get a better idea of her full range and control. Or watch "Heartbreaker" from her 2001 tour concert special. Then you can get to see how truly amazing Neil Giraldo is on guitar too.
When I was a little kid, growing up in the 1980s, there were the Olivia Newton-John girls and then there were the Pat Benatar girls and the Pat Benatar girls were always the bad girls! She was mad popular back then and not only a great performer but top-notch singer!
She's a total badass! Back in the day, half the girls in my highschool had "Benatar bob" haircuts (shorter than in this video) and all the guys had major crushes in her. Her voice still gives me the chills.
Bless you -- it's wonderful to find a Pat Benatar fan! Keep going! Even if you know her songs, you can still do candid reactions to live performance videos. Here's a suggestion that might push you to the edge of your comfort zone -- but you'll be rewarded when you get there! I don't see any country music on your channel (yet), so here's a chance to dip your toe in the water...with someone you admire. Martina McBride is an all-time great country singer, and her song "Independence Day" is awesome! In 2003 the show "CMT Crossroads" paired Martina with one of her childhood idols, Pat Benatar! At the time, Martina was a rising star and Pat had just turned 50. They perform "Independence Day" side-by-side, and what a pair they make!!!! It's hard to believe, but Pat (at 50) was even more powerful than you saw her in this rendition of "Heartbreaker." Martina and Pat do "Independence Day" here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5Ip4fF5CAtU.html
A banger of a song by a woman trained in Opera but decided rock and roll was not only more lucrative but more fun. There is another song called Heartbreaker by Barry Gibb of the Beegees. That is, he wrote it but didn't sing it. He wrote it for Dionne Warwick in 1980. I think you'll just love it. Quite a change from Benatar.
PS the guitar player is her husband, Neil Geraldo. Go off the beaten path with her. Try anything from True Love. It's a bluesy album and phenomenal. LOVE your reactions!!
@@PlagueKing_LordFalix Both were nominated 2 years ago and again this year. The Hall recognizes Pat Benatar as a group and the members are Pat and Neil.
Pat Benatar is a trained singer. She has such versatility and range. Pat Benatar saved Rock and Roll , while New Wave , Punk and Progressive rock were dominating the radio, she kept Real rock alive
Attention Everyone: The reason Pat isn't in the RRHOF is because she refuses to accept until her husband is accepted as well. She is that much of a QUEEN. THE QUEEN OF ROCK.
Try her song “Hell is for children”, not what you think, it’s a serious matter song, about child abuse.. it’s a tear jerker very heavy song with a strong message…
Pat Benatar is an incredible talent who's STILL not in the RRHOF! But Madonna is, LOL. What a travesty. Now if you want to hear what she can really do with her voice, check out her cover of Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights.
Before there was Madonna, Stevie Nicks, ANY successful female "Bad Ass " there was Pat Benatar! Standing 5 feet tall with a three octave voice and opera trained she opened the doors for all that followed! Pat was the first to have a MTV Video! She really was the FIRST female solo artist played on MTV! #1! Not Michael Jackson or "The Eagles". Pat Benatar! What a talent!
Stevie Nicks was well known before Pat Benatar, as was Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Suzi Quatro, Joan Jett, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart. And yes, The Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star" was the first video aired on MTV. Everyone knows that.
@@bossfan49 AGAIN, The Buggles is not a female solo artist! Holy Christ, can you people read? True, the Buggles video played before Benatars', BUT, Pat was THE FIRST FEMALE ARTIST, FIRST AMERICAN FEMALE ARTIST TO HAVE A VIDEO PLAYED ON MTV when MTV rolled out! Stevie Nicks, Grace Slick, Nancy Wilson were NOT solo artists. But of course, everyone knows that! Moron.
@@boosuedon you didn’t say she was the first FEMALE artist played on MTV. You said “she really was the FIRST artist played”. You then named two other artists one male, one was a group of males.
This was her first big hit in the late 70s and has become her signature song. That's her doing all the background vocals too. She's classically trained as an operatic singer.
