RIP, but you'd be surprised, if he leaves it drying for about a month, or in better conditions maybe less time, it could still possibly work! Modern computers are designed to turn off/stop the flow of power as soon as they detect water, although his was still on, it might have been protected enough to not need to turn off, but would have been best if he turned it off right away as well.

Remove the power and any adapters to it. Power the thing off. lay upside down, prefer lid open. Let it dry. If there is power going to it your going to cause it to short circuit. Many a laptop i've fixed that got wet but once they dried out they were fine. But once you have a short due to water+electricity its dead. Once it off, you can wipe off any excess liquid and if you feel comfortable you can open up the back of the case but for most people at least get it powered off immediately and off power. Keep liquid from the ports/keyboard or its going to soak in
