The Concorde stopped flying due to safety regulations, emissions, and most importantly…. Cost. It was WAY too expensive to operate, and it could only fly trans-Atlantic flights because of the sonic boom it created. Most flights were never sold out, and ticket prices were ridiculously expensive. Also, airlines that did own a Concorde had to keep one on standby at NY-LaGuardia, Paris, and London Heathrow, which meant a plane sitting, not making any money. The nail in the coffin was the Air France flight in the early 2000’s that crashed soon after takeoff.

The first Concord crash happened because another airline was too cheap to do regular repairs on their aircraft. That plane took off ahead of the Concord and a strip of metal that was used in a shoddy repair fell onto the runway. The Concord then traveled down the runway and ran over the piece of metal, which caused a tire to burst. Pieces of the tire hit the underside of the wing, which was full of fuel, causing shockwaves in the fuel tank which in turn caused rivets to pop and the leaking fuel caught fire. It was too late to stop takeoff, and the plane crashed into an airport motel. It had absolutely nothing to do with the safety of the Concord aircraft.
@alexrobertson1472

@Thomas Jones OK, if we talk about Revenue: By making the sport "American Football" popular for, lets say, the whole world. With Merchendiese, streaming licences, fans coming to the games in the US, ..., sorry, but who cares about taxable Revenue of 500k? The Revenue generated by the global distribution as a whole is so much bigger. Why I know this: The NFL is a Business and they also brings more and more international games -> Here is, where they see the money (which will be taxed in the US) Of course, overall I totally understand your point of disadvantage for the small peolple on site (parking, beverage, ...).
@DavidHeiler

@Thomas Jones What is interesting: In Germany we also think our "foreign policy ... help everyone else but ourselves". Just as a note :)
@DavidHeiler
@DavidHeiler 2 года назад
@Thomas Jones I undertand your point. Regarding Merch: People in the US will buy stuff anyway, but with the internationalization you open up new markets and also people in other countries spend their money on merch. So I totally agree in this point. Regarding revenue in the City: I dont know exactly how your taxation system works, but I think their will stay a very good amount in the US and therefore the people will benefit. I understand, that the "small man" could overall miss on some money. BUT: In my opinion, sport is or should be ways bigger than money. With the internationalization, the sport American Fottball grows globally, which means, I guess, a better excperience for everyone. Of course, for a few individuals this situation could be frustrating.

Dear Pat let me explain something to you there has always been a large Pats fan base over here not just because of TB12, but the England in their name and John Smith of " Snow plow game in 82 " was English. I have been a life long British Hawks fan since visiting my aunt in Vancouver when I was a kid. Fortunately they started showing the NFL on TV, over here on in 82 and in 87 I saw my first live game the 49ers vs Dolphins. It was a privilege to see Montana, Young, Rice , Lott, Walsh ( I didn't HATE the 49ers then like I do now) Marino , and Shula. I still have the match day programme, the thing I remember the most was just before the game started Ronnie Lott walking to the endzone where I was sitting and touching all 4 pylons everyone was in awe of the great man. I'm in my 50's now and seen the growth of the game way beyond anything I could imagine back in the early days . In London you will always see fans every team from the Cowboys to the Browns, Jags, Jets and Lions. For over 30 years I never saw another Hawks fan in London now I see them all the time. In 2018, I saw the Hawks play live it was a lifelong dream I never thought would happen. I literally cried when I got my ticket. My seat was right behind the Hawks bench, and had a close up view of the team. It was the 3rd greatest Hawks moment of my life the 2nd being winning the SB and number 1 Paul Allen, buying the team. So yeah , I love International games, and long may they continue. Go Hawks

As an NFL fan from the UK I love the games that are played over here, but I fully understand and empathise with American fans and the players and staff from the teams that come over. Home field advantage is a huge thing in any sport, so the drawn NFL home teams have one less game at their stadium which is unfair to the fans. I think the answer to this is simple, do not have any regular season AFC or NFC games over here. I think that the NFL could create an International trophy to play for over here during closed season, it would allow teams to blood their rookies. Obviously the pro bowl is never usually a competitive game, but these international games could be if there was incentive. For instance the winner of the tournament could win a trophy similar to the Vince Lombardi (But smaller), and cash bonus for the players, and extra draft picks. That would give the teams incentive to play in the games, and it would ensure that all 32 teams in the NFL have at least 8 home field games, and it would help the NFL brand to grow. There are 7 months of off season, so why not break it up a bit with the international tournament then ?

A full time team in europe would be just stupid. Going from Europe to the US is not a big deal, but going back is tough. Going from West to east drops the win percentage of teams doing it. And that’s only three hours. Pat talked about how jet lagged he was, can you imagine doing this every second week.
@pyrex2177

if there was a full time team in europe, they'd probably have all their home games in a row and then spend the rest of their season in secondary facility somewhere in the US to play all their "away" games in a row

Turn half the season into traveling games. Link through England to a few markets and have a week in each region. London for the week, then Berlin, Prague onto an Asian market then end in Australia. Half teams travel for first half of season, then second half travels for last half of season.

The logistics of having a full time NFL Team in Europe are too wild. Travel time, taxes, work permits, etc. European governments also aren’t going to put up $800 Million for an owner to build a stadium. But playing a few games a season rotated around different teams could really build a new following for the NFL.

Concorde is never coming back because of how expensive the planes were to build and operate. 6,500+ gallons of aviation fuel on one transatlantic flight carrying a maximum of 128 passengers? It just isn't commercially viable. And for the manufacturers, they based their budget around selling 350 of these planes. Only 20 were built and only 14 of them ever flew passengers.

Moreover, players today enjoy a big audience thanks to the players of previous generations who made it possible. The Concorde actually crashed twice but that wasn't the problem. It once crashed during a showflight so not many people died. And the other time it crashed because another plane infront of it had lost one of it's parts on the runway. This cracked the concorde open. The plane was fairly save. The real problem was the cost of a flight for passengers and airlines. But the biggest problem was how loud the airplane was. People on the ground felt annyoed by the noise whenever the concorde was flying wich at the end was the last straw that broke it's neck
