I am so excited to share my first Pat McGrath Labs product review and it definitely won't be my last. I purchased this foundation because I was curious to see if it would live up to the hype. After wearing it all day long, I must say I'm impressed. I have never heard of a sheer long-wearing foundation but that's exactly how I would describe the coverage and finish. I'm looking forward to applying it with different primers and brushes until I figure out the perfect application. At first, I didn't like the tackiness of this foundation but I appreciate that it doesn't feel dry or cakey. Overall, I'm happy with the product!

I was binge watching your videos and I came across this one which is perfect because I just purchased this one! At first you had me a little scared, but as the video went on I felt more confident that I’m gonna like this one. I ordered the foundation, Primer, Setting Powder, and her new Rose Serum. I think if I use her whole system everything might turn out alright! Thank you for reviewing this one, it’s very helpful to say the least. I will keep you updated on how this worked for me and if I like it! 💞💕

Dear Erin, thank you for your always nice and honest reviews. I got 3 shades of this foundation as I live in Paris and could not choose one single perfect shade. I purchased the complete system with one of the shades and am using it for 2 days now. I'm really loving it. It is very light weight, though as you said it is tacky. But when I use the powder over the foundation it becomes perfect and not tacky at all. The primer is also quite nice and light weight though with a little bit of perfume which fades fast. I heard that Pat's team have suggested either to use the foundation only with their own primer or with no primer at all. Hope this helps. But I really suggest your trying Pat's eye shadows. Hi Erin, thank you for your thoughtful first impressions. I'm looking forward to hearing your observations once you've had a chance to use the foundation more. I don't mind a tricky foundation in the right circumstances. Like you, I was hoping it would be special in some way. I'm undecided and will likely wait until I can be matched and take a sample to try at home.

Hi Tracey thank you! I ended up returning the foundation and exchanging it for a foundation brush and Givenchy powder. I couldn’t justify the price since it’s just not best suited for my skin type. It’s worth trying a sample and getting matched, you might have a better experience! Xx

I will get a sample for curiosity's sake but with the sheer volume of foundations being released right now, better to find one that works for your skin tone vs trying to make the OMG foundation work. Yes of course! I just tried the new Kevin Aucoin foundation, purchased the new Guerlain foundation and I’m still waiting on Charlotte Tilbury! There are so many new foundations coming out!

@@ErinNicoleTV Oooohhhh, would love to hear about the Kevyn Aucoin balm foundation. The brand doesn't seem to get a lot of exposure. I, too, can't wait for CT's foundation and concealer release. I hear the foundation oxidizes lighter (a different concept). I was advised to try it on, go have coffee, and then check how it oxidizes. Lots to choose from this year! 😊

Hi Erin, I had ordered the complete kit from PM that I’m still waiting on, I used the shade finder from Sephora and it said I needed the LM 11 I’m hoping it won’t be too light or dark for me. I do think you look pretty as always and I’m looking forward to your updates after you test it a bit more. I’m 30 or 40 in Chanel so I hope this will be the right color.

I’m usually a 30 beige and it matched me to the 12... I think I should have listened instead of going rogue in the store and grabbing the 9. I’ll probably end up exchanging it for a deeper shade. I’m excited to keep playing with it! Xx

Thanks for your review. I wonder if the stickiness comes from the ceramides? I know some ceramides take longer to absorb into the skin.

Maybe... I’m not really familiar with them! It never really dried down at all. I like that it stayed flexible and it did last but I need to try it a few more times and play around with it for sure :) xx

Erin , may I ask if the Dior dream skin primer is water-based ? I only ask because apparently the foundation is , so the primer must be as well. You looked exceptionally lovely despite your feelings . I’ve noticed a lot of people are finding it a little finicky & with a price point in Canada of $90 dollars before tax , it’s just not something I can justify . Definitely a sample of the both the primer & foundation to try it out & shade match in store is something I’m considering. Always enjoy your videos , I find you very calm & soothing & informative. Thank you , as always !

Thank you! I don’t think the Dior is water based... buts it’s more of a skincare item. I used the foundation alone as well before I ultimately decided to exchange it. I couldn’t justify the price point. I think for certain skin types it’s probably perfect but I would suggest trying a sample :) xx

A great and honest review, well done! My SIL and I went to Sephora and neither of us could get a color match. We took home a sample of the best match possible and it was a mess both with the shade pulling super pink on me and orange on her as well as it making my dry skin burn/feel tight. Huge pass for us.

My observations glow but not greasy. Takes a bit to set. Does not oxidize. Wears well in hot humid weather. Alcohol content not an issue for me. Have to go to Sephora and try it on to get a match. Excellent video with excellent descriptions❤️👍. This foundation seems to be a controversial product. People either love it or hate it

I agree with all of your observations! The alcohol doesn’t bother me either... it’s a very common stabilizer in cosmetics. Far more common that people realize I think now that I’ve heard so many concerns. Everyone has different skin so their opinions are going to be different... I don’t think it says anything bad about the product itself. It just isn’t for everyone, which is very normal. I want to keep playing with it but if anything, I may swap for a slightly darker shade :) xx

Unfortunately no... the foundation just stays tacky all day long. It was very patchy by the end of the day but I think it’s just not best for my skin type :/ xx

Thanks for this Honest review Erin , I personally would have gotten a sample before paying that price tag , I feel living in Florida I need a very light coverage foundation more of a non makeup/ natural look it’s just way to hot here in Florida as you know and melted makeup on the face isn’t a pretty look lol. I may try a sample in Sephora before buying. 💁🏻‍♀️

lol the pain of a "youtuber"... I just buy blindly sometimes and it's not very realistic. I certainly would suggest trying samples before you buy, especially to nail the shade. You might love it! It's very light and flexible throughout the day... I need to try it out a few more times but in this heat just about everything is melting lol xx

Hi Erin, thank you for a great review, this is now a definite pass for me. Alcohol is the 4th ingredient on the list and my skin doesn’t take well to it though it’s great that she excluded fragrance. The tackiness was also experienced my Michele Wang and that with your review just nailed it for me that it’s a definite no no, I’m not even interested in getting a sample. The primer has fragrance so I will definitely be skipping that but the powder looks beautiful and when I find out which shade I need I will be purchasing that.

Thanks Julie, I'm glad you found it helpful! Alcohol is quite commonly used as a stabilizer so it really didn't bother me that it's an ingredient. I honestly felt like the formula wasn't dry enough lol it stayed tacky... there are so many great foundations out there, you aren't missing out! There will be something perfect for you and hopefully the powder is nice! xx

Hi Erin thanks so much for a thorough review. I'm surprised it's not setting especially since alcohol is I think the 4th ingredient. I think that living in Florida this is a no go for me. I'm curious about the Charlotte Tilbury foundation soon to be released.

Yeah it was sort of strange and unexpected! I know alcohol is a really common stabilizer in cosmetics so not necessarily a huge deal breaker for me... it never felt dry. I am like you, I’m really pumped for the new Charlotte Tilbury foundation! Xx

Nice, but the shade choice is little off little too light...neck didn't match your face...seemed to need alot of bronzer. But overall you did a beautiful job.! Thx.

umm for the price and judging by your initial thoughts it's not for me. If something that pricey doesn't blow you out of the water right away it's not really worth it. On a different note I got the tom ford lip lacquer based on your reviews while I was in Greece and they had a 35% off sale.I love it! I'm interested in the chanel loose powder can I buy it through you? I would love to support you in any way I can.

You know I think PMG is one of those brands, ran by a MUA, that creates things for public consumption that really should be left for, or targeted at, pro hands. Her eyeshadows are great, but the color stories are very editorial and very expensive for large pans (more suitable to a MUA) rather than more colors in smaller pans (suitable for individuals). A lot of her products, and Natasha Denona’s, I’ve heard of people claiming they’re finicky and need special brushes or a “system” to get the results they advertise. I don’t think the general consumer really wants to be stuck with a system, and I don’t think one system suits all skin types or lifestyles either. More than anything, I get bummed about by the promo shots from these MUAs where it’s dim lighting, or expertly lit just so, and the shadows, highlight or skin look flawless or special-effects like but in person they’re not that big a deal or they run down your face after 10 minutes (a la Charlotte Tilbury). Some MUAs are just better suited to create that look with that certain lighting for that 20 minute set, but their work would never hold up on the daily consumer

You make a lot of really valid points! That’s a good reason why I’ve never bought anything from PML or Natasha Denona. They are incredible makeup artists and I respect them tremendously but creating makeup products for consumers takes a huge amount of time and resources and is sometimes better left to the big brands who have the buying power to make high quality at a relatively affordable price. Ask they understand the “average” woman (no such thing 😘) is not a super model going to a Photoshoot lol and cater to consumers in a different way. Artistry brands are not always realistic. That said, I’m still happy to keep playing with the foundation! Xx

You are beautiful, and anything would be pretty on you. However, I've never see you look so... chalky. Maybe a couple of shades darker? Thank you for doing this review. It helped make my decision about purchasing this.

I think that’s fair! There are so many incredible foundations on the market, there’s no reason to settle! As soon as I finished filming I went on RU-vid to see if anyone else experienced the tackiness.... I hate to “poke holes” or find flaws for the sake of the review but I definitely wasn’t alone. I’ll keep playing with it to give it a fair chance :) xx

I love Pat McGrath products. Unfortunately this foundation contains alcohol which was a very big disappointment for me. So sad....but I have to pass on this. Looking forward to trying Charlotte Tilbury’s though as her ingredient list is better.

Why do you put so much bronzer on your forehead? You don't need it, it looks unnatural and you forehead is lovely!

I didn’t mean to! 😂😂😂 if you heard me at the end I explained that the tackiness of the foundation made my bronzer splotchy and I had to keep blending like a mad woman... I also went back with my setting powder and foundation brush to smooth it out... and the foundation shade might be a little light for me. It looked a hot mess but I tried to fix it! Unless you think I always use too much bronzer... in which case I guess it’s personal preference! Xx
