The bolt override clearing at ~13:20 is the most straight forward explanation that I have ever seen. I love how americans have such an extensive training session on this. Finnish guys running RK rifles (like an AK but better) its like: Step 1: DROP the mag, fresh mag in, rack it, try firing. If the rifle still doensnt work... Step 2: slam the stock into a rock or a tree while pointing in a safe direction, try to fire. At this point the rifle must be completely fucked if it still doesnt fire when its in battery. Step 3: find new rifle.

Most in-house bad firearms training start because units aren't taking advantage of available training opportunities. You can only teach so much material from the book; you need to send people to the appropriate schools. Benning for the Active side and Robinson for the Guard side have marksmanship schools that every unit should be sending their people to in order to learn proper BRM and range operation procedures.

This afternoon, my brother and I went out to the farm to shoot up some Norinco .223 ammo I bought back in the early 90's. We are both retired military guys, who have been shooting all our lives. He told me about this video on the drive to the farm, the quality of the information provided, and specifically, the primer story, that was mentioned toward the end of this video. After almost 30 years in the military each, we'd never run into primers from expended ammo, rattling around the inside of the rifle, causing all sorts of problems. When we started shooting, we immediately started to have the issues covered in this video. Every other round was the average for a stoppage...but we weren't expecting an easy day trying to shoot this ~30 year old ammo, so we cleared the jams and kept going...just like this video says. Could be the ammo, could be the rifle(s)...in the beginning, we suspected, but didn't know. After shooting 20 rounds...which took way too long, we'd move to another rifle, to see if the rifle could be the issue/to prove it was the ammo. By the second or third mag, I noticed a spent primer, was stuck on the next, chambered round, causing the bolt to not seat properly. We laughed at the odds of him having seen this video, and then having it happen to us. It took four hours, for us to shoot up ~200 rounds of this old stuff. I watched this video soon after I got back home, but because my brother had seen it before, we spent four hours applying all the info provided in this video...again and again. Thanks for the great video instruction, and thanks to Norinco for enabling an awesome day of "Weapons Malfunction Training".

Another reason for failure to feed is cheap magazines like Thermold. If you look at a GI or Magpul magazine from the back and hold up the Thermold next to it, you will see that the magazine follower on the Thermold doesn't ride up as high. It tends to feed the round into the top of the magwell no matter how well you seat the mag.
@jdhill770
@jdhill770 4 года назад
I loved my magpuls and sung their praises until I had 3 of a set spit their feed lips into my m4 in afghanistan. Steel usgi or lancer mags with metal lips only, from then on. Magpul springs and followers in everything though

Some of those troops look bored to tears and wanting to be somewhere else, I don't think that they're fully understanding the pertinence of this training and from whom it's coming from. They're going to have malfunctioning weapons like the 507th Maintenance Company, who could not fight back with jammed weapons during the invasion of Iraq.

Damn good teacher. Knows his stuff, strips out unnecessary complexity, communicates clearly, and takes an almost Socratic approach to facilitating his students' learning. Reminds me of the guy who taught me to drive a forklift. Whole class ended up getting full marks on the tests, except for one guy who made a mistake and only got 97% on the written (pass mark was 50% I think).
