WoW and Holy Crap Man. I thought for years I was the only one who fealt the way everyone who has posted before me feels.. I'm now 46. I've found the love of my life but the only way that dream will ever come true is by the Grace of GOD. Since her name is Grace and my Daughter's name is Hope I have Faith GOD will finally bless me with that Soulful Love. And as soon as we can get some time to chill and be alone together, we are watching this movie together. It molded my life. I ended up just like Truman for a while. lol. College, war, buddies, girls, wild times, crazy nights, beer drinking, roughin' it, breaking the law in a day when laws had some leeway. A better day. A dream of yesterday and today. If you've never seen it put it on your movie bucket list. Thank you Pat & Lyle. 5-13-16

there is not a time that I haven't sobbed watching this film and this particular scene. pat metheny's music along with the atmosphere of the movie, the ending of such a beautiful and poetic story about friendship, growing up, parting ways with your friends.... it strikes a chord inside of me that I can't fully understand. i know it makes me look back on a life I haven't lived, it takes me into the future when I'll look back to my own youth and memories. this scene is one of my most sacred treasures. fandango is a movie I was introduced to by my dad, we share the same passions in music and movies. after I finish watching this film i get transported in another dimension, it's a feeling that last for days. truly a cinematic masterpiece. poetry is everywhere. I want to live a life that makes me feel in my heart like this story does.

Indeed. I am happy to know that others feel the same way about this film that I do and have for so many years. I actually had a love like this, have had friends come and go that changed my life, or whom I would not have had a life if it weren't for them being there for even a season, who's faces are as clear to me now as they were then. I never say 'good bye' to anyone; always 'see ya later, friend'. Now, my children are grown and going, and I pray that they live a life with everything in it so that they have something to look back on, and miss, and treasure; yeah. I treasure each and every moment of it; wouldn't trade it for pure gold.

JUST PASSING THIS ALONG: The Opening Title Card to the Kevin Reynolds film 'FANDANGO' (1985) reads: "Austin, Texas. May 15, 1971." Thus making that 45 years ago TODAY 'The Groovers' went out to dig up Dom and to re-live the greatest chapter in Groover History. This film, 'FANDANGO' -- changed my life ... so ... if I may: "Here's to us, by God-! To us, and that... ... and privileges of youth. Here's to us and what we were. And what we'll be." DOM LIVES-! D.A.

They should do a Fandango II or Reunion movie over 20 years later: Lester testifies at congressional hearings how Arthur Anderson was involved with the Enron debacle; Dorman is a missionary in Central America helping the rebels run marijuana for their cause; Phil comes back from Vietnam assisting Vets and denouncing the War; Waggoner comes back with PTSD with his wife supportive but is afraid of his reactions; and Gardner is a professor who comes back from Canada who has a son who wants to go join the Army due to the Gulf War and cannot convince him not to go. Would love to see a Fandango II.

The first time I heard this tune I was going through 7seven weeks of Medical Training school. As a usual practice, I'd buy at least one CD for listening as a kind of commemorative to each experience when I'd travel. This piece is from the first CD I'd ever bought by Pat Metheny. The title was *"As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls."* It felt kind of anemoia to me because of where _Sheppard Air Force Base_ was located: _Wichita Falls, Texas..._

I seem to vaguely recall the plot of this movie masterpiece, after this legendary fandango dance , the young Costner character takes off for south of the border to avoid the Vietnam draft . Judd Nelson enlisted and one dude gets married . The drifter who slept through the long drive finally wakes up from him hangover .. 🍿🎥 . Great flick! Is this Kevin Costner 's first movie ? A young e g daily has a cameo in this classic movie also !! Excelsior 🎉the soundtrack is phenomenal as well as the Midwest scenery in the background

Ultimate for him it was the right decision. Note that he salutes his friends at dusk with a beer bottle, which tells us the audience and the characters in the movie where his interests and priorities are. But yes, if you ever lose that one girl that just loves to laugh and be with you, .... heaven help you from doing an outrage to yourself years later, because you'll be calling the crisis line.

This was truly one of the greatest movies of all time. I've been to the DOM Rock and the old Rattlesnake Bomber Base outside Pyote, TX (where the Truman Sparks part of the movie was filmed). This ending scene will make you think years ago of the "one that got away." I really like how they were so caught up in the Fandango dance that everyone else completely disappeared. Do yourself a favor and take a road trip someday to west Texas (Monahans, Pyote, Fort Davis, Marfa, Alpine, Marathon, Terlingua, etc) and Big Bend National Park. It's beautiful, wild, and remote.

I think the gist of the film is that you have to do what makes you happy. Costner may have loved Debbie, but she wanted someone who was more responsible and not just dedicated to fun. And he wanted to continue to have fun his way as he wanted. She wanted something more.

The music is such a great match for the scene, which is rife with symbolism: Amis plays Costner's ex-girlfriend who is now marrying instead his best friend. The newly-married couple's first dance is a clumsy affair which is then followed by Costner and Amis's flawless "fandango" performance. They clearly were meant to be together...but it's just not going to happen. It is this poignant moment of realization and regret that fuels so many fans' love for this movie. On a side note, Reynolds' overhead shot at 4:26 is magic and is one of my favorites ever.

Just heard on this day, Monday, February 10th, Lyle Mays passed away at 66 years of age due to illness. We will no longer hear new works from this deeply talented artist. Let's cherish what he and Pat Metheny accomplished together, miles and miles of beautiful music.

Thank you for saying that. I saw PMG three times with Lyle. I am still blown away by this song.

Wasn’t the biggest fan of this movie overall but this scene is one of my favorites from any movie ever made. This and the last scene where he’s sitting alone while “Can’t Find my Way Home” is playing. Never tire of those scenes. Thanks for the great music.

And to think Spielberg produced and disowned this film. He was so wrong. It’s great.

I watched this film in an empty theater in Burlington, Vermont in 1985. I watched this scene and started crying. At 23 years old, I wept for what I knew was my fading youth... This is a beautiful movie.

I didn't realize how great this movie was until I seen this scene perfecty paired with this score. I watched it over and over until the VHS tape broke. How it still tugs at your heart after over 30 years.

Great movie, very well acted, funny and romantic at the same time. I saw it back in 1991 and was struck by it, I immediately bought the VHS then, later on, the DVD. It touches all the aspects of life (love, friendship, youth) and how quickly you can loose all of them. Love the ending, very touching and sad, each one goes separate ways but it's the way it goes in life and it's fair the way it is...that's why this movie is a great movie.

It's amazing how the screenwriter, director and actors worked together to tell an epic of love found, love lost and love rediscovered in another place -- without saying a word. The way she shook her head, then kissed him on the cheek... *My* heart hurts.

I discovered this movie at my local VHS rental store in 1987 and I must have watched it 50 times. I think in many ways this is Costner's best role - and this scene, with the lean in for the kiss, is his best scene ever. I could watch it 100 more times.
