Out Of Africa | Soundtrack Suite (John Barry) 

It is yet another Year later than when you posted (2024) now. I hope you are well. I am 60 now and live in Australia. I was born in Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) in 1963 and lived in Africa for the first 12 years of my life. I remember it well. I love this Movie and the Soundtrack - hard to believe the Movie and Sound Track were first released 39 years ago. My father passed away 11 years ago but my mother is still going strong at 86. God Bless

It is never too late. I never lived in Africa and a pure white person so to speak but that movie and music made me feel I lived there in a former life. As long of the sounds and evn the smell live around you, know that your Mom is still alive and is looking over you. That movie and music mad me feel like I was flying over my homeland where I can find the beginning and the end, peace at last.I always wanted to go there but I limit my travels to see my Mom in France considering she is 97. Treasure the memories, smell, landscape, the people and the music that brings you back to your Mom. She is technically gone but not spiritually. She lives in you through that. Embrace her spirit

Dear Mary, My dream to go to Mozambique, an absolute fascination for Africa, but Africa is a huge Continent. This moovie, is one of my lifes moovies, I will never forget. Everybody in the Cinema was crying. And the MUSIC.....Makes me cry.... The day I will land in Mozambique I will listen to this music and remenber this marvelous moovie. I got a chance to co-write with John on the film “Frances.“ The song was cut from the last scene but Sarah Brightman recorded it. If you know the story, you’ll understand why a song with lyric just wouldn’t work.. Out of Africa is my favorite score of his. Besides being a master composer, he was fun, bright and very easy to be around. A gentleman in the best sense of the work. I can’t imagine listening from your house. What an amazing feeling! Namaste

The vastness, the non-perception of time, the drama and the awareness of how negligible is Man compared to all of Creation.

I have been living just in the area of the film when i was younger!!! So many memories. Gourgeous scenaries!!!! Now Africa has entarely changed unfortunately!!!!

Barry has an incredible talent to make sweeping themes of romance like this - something to do with multiplying the usual arrangement of instruments for a given chord makes his compositions sound so good.

@@donburnell1 He's up there with the GREAT film composers. James Horner, John Williams, Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann...without their music, their films would have been lacking that touch of magic.

Actually, the film shows both, the bad and the evil, the good and the horrid of Africa in those years. The life of Karen Blixen was hard in Africa. For those who ventured in that continent many times a dream became a nightmare.

Grow up in Africa have seen the film several times always brought tears Sydney Pollock 1of the greatest directors best actors there will never be anything close to the calibre of these greats. i was lucky to be friends with a old lady who lived in Kenya colonial times and she new her I used to sit with Maria for hours listening to storys flying in a tigermoth while in làbour

John Barry was truly a great composer. He composed most of the James Bond theme songs including Gold Finger.

Dear Joan L, I too remember the film "Somewhere in Time" and loved it so much even though it was also incredibly sad but so damn beautiful. The music struck me too and John Barry of course did both. The music to "Out of Africa" is amazing. He also did the music to "Dances with Wolves", my favourite film. What a soul this man had.
