Bravo. C'est un régal.

This isn't Pat, Jaco and Moses. It's actually Daryl Jahnke, Chris Tarry and Brad Turner doing a BSL tribute at The Cellar in Vancouver in 2001. I reached out to Chris and here was his response: "Yup, that’s me with Daryl on guitar, and Brad Turner on drums. Amazing thing about that gig is it was the first time Brad played drums publicly, as you know, he’s mainly a piano/trumpet player. It was a Metheny tribute concert we did at the Cellar in celebration of the 30th(?) anniversary of the album, so I guess that puts the gig somewhere around 2006. Actually it may have been earlier than that, maybe 2001 for the 25th anniversary, as I think I was in NYC by 2005."

Jaco's last gigs with Pat Metheny and Bob Moses were in 1976 in Boston. If this is him, it was prior to 1977, by which time Jaco was in Weather Report.

At that point in time Jaco had just barely completed his solo album and then jumped right into this with Pat Metheny. And then, incredibly, he would jump on a plane and travel to LA to record Weather Report! He was not only a busy guy, he is the world's greatest bassist ever! Just fact.

Why not a young Jaco in 1975 or 1976? I doubt this is from 1977, but Jaco played this music with Pat in concerts in 1975 and 1976.
@JacoPastoriusArchive
@JacoPastoriusArchive Год назад
@@bond-suits 1. The recording quality is way too good to be a bootleg. This would have to be an official live album if it was recorded in mid 70s. 2. If this featured Jaco, it would be on Len Pogost's website. He has collected Jaco Pastorius bootlegs for decades, he has it all. 3. If you're very familiar with Jaco's playing, you can tell it's not him, though I must admit the bassist gets quite close. There is nothing that sounds like Jaco's Bass of Doom and if you compare the tone with any real Jaco/Pat/Moses bootleg, you can tell it's very different.

Wow, no wonder we're in such a state in this nation and world. People don't know how to read or pay attention! At any rate, this is a very fitting tribute and they have captured the ESSENCE of this pivotal recording.. To those complaining they aren't playing note for note...damn, get a life, it's jazz, it's supposed to be improvised. It's played in the STYLE of the original. For those who weren't paying attention or read the title or personnel, please don't vote in November, OK?

Are you telling me this ISN'T Pat, Jaco, and Bob? It's close enough to fool me and I have been listening to that record since 1976. Not sure what to say as to it's VALUE if it is copycat stuff, although I 'd be happy if I could play near as well. And if Pat can't make a gig, there's someone he can call. I wonder what HIS response to this would be....

I respect that you are a musician, since I am not. But I am a trillion % sure that this is at least Pat. -- But I also feel that this recording was perhaps recorded before the actual album was recorded. Perhaps sort of a pre-album recording for their friends, etc, to see what would be appropriate for a commercial release later on that year? However, I certainly don't feel it was recorded in 1977. Pat was doing Watercolors in 1977, and I don't feel he would 'go back' like that, since Pat was always forward thinking/doing. (Pat and Jaco weren't even getting along artistically in 1977). -- If you listen to Pat's bootlegs for hints, you might change your opinion.

The bass solo that starts around 13:45 is a dead giveaway that this guy is NOT Jaco Pastorius. Not even in the close. Just repetitively running scales in predictable unimaginative patterns. He has technique but insofar as his improvisation is so inferior to the great Jaco it s a genuine tribute. Jaco was an artist.

It sure sounds like them. They sounded a little different live than the studio album, more wild and free sounding, so I would not be entirely surprised...if not, it is an excellent facsimile...the bassist plays double stops and flourishes very much like Jaco...and the guitarist is a dead ringer for early Pat. On the other hand the sound quality is a little too good for a bootleg, but who knows
