This dude has gone by a few names and been in a few groups, each worth a listen. This is not an exhaustive list but Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains and Ramshackle Glory are my favorite of his work
Pat the Bunny is the hero of our generation. Listen to any song of his and you'll feel personally attacked because he's so honest and self introspective that most people can identify. Folk punk, aka the simultaneously shittiest and best genre of music.
Yeah, it's Folk Punk. Glad to see you guys reacting to this genre. Other recommendations I would make would be Against Me! AJJ, Ghost Mice, Defiance Ohio and Days n Daze. If you're interested in folky stuff I would also highly recommend Neutral Milk Hotel and a deep dive on Elliott Smith is a must.
nice reaction! i personally interpreted this song as also kind of describing alcoholism, the line "it must be pouring out my sweat glands, it must be some place in my eyes" reminds me of how you can tell if someone has been drinking heavily through both their sweat and the look in their eyes
Pat the Bunny, Ramshackle Glory, Johnny Hobo and the Freighttrains. Pat is the shit. His music follows his drug use and recovery. Johnny Hobo and The Freighttrains is worth a listen! His music resonates with me a lot, I used to do heroin, Pat did as well, and quit 9 years ago. Still trying to find my way
So many good PTB and Ramshackle Glory songs! Such an underrated artist!! Maybe try the songs: “The Heart Is A Muscle”, “More About Alcoholism”, “For The Sake Of The Ashes” or “We Are All Just Compost In Training”. 👍🏻
Pat is definitely not being ironic. He's a reformed addict who I'm pretty certain has/had depression, and a lot of music at least in Folk Punk that deal with depression do it in a weirdly upbeat cathartic manner. I Wanna Die by Harley Poe is about the singer being suicidal during a divorce, but the majority of the chorus is basically "I wanna die (la da da di da di da di da) I wanna die" For me, the super depressing lyrics in a lot of these songs paired with the upbeat instrumentals makes them cathartic. It gets the frustrations of the emotions out into the world in a way you can sing along to, while lifting you up in the meantime. But that's just how it is for me at least
Can I get a request for Amigo the Devil? New subscriber here. Below is a list of songs I’d suggest as first listens. Pick one that stands out to you guys if you are interested. Amigo is Murder Folk, though. Slight content warning there. Cocaine and Abel Stronger Than Dead (Suicide) Perfect Wife (Domestic Violence) If I’m Crazy Quiet As A Rat Hungover In Jonestown Drop For Every Hour (Albert Fish vendetta song)
Is somewhat of an acquired taste. It takes a minute to warm up to folk punk. Hope you have that AJJ song on your list too. I requested it previously. "People II: The Reckoning." I think you'll like it.
Hey guys! Here’s another request bomb, I made sure to include lots of folk punk. Can you review these songs?
