My grandfather was a POW in Japan. You are the most beautiful and successful humans in existence. Thank you Japan for representing peace better than us Americans
Never liked Mr.Big..so i didnt pay attention to this guy...But what i just watched makes me wanna steal some of this into my soloing....of course i'll make it look hard, sweat profusesly, and have my mouth hanging open,a.k.a drummers mouth!!
Around 2003, a classmate of mine in college said he really liked Mr. Big. I just knew them as the To Be With You band, and assumed they were all washed up. My friend turned me on to Paul Gilbert and Racer X. I was shocked at how technical his playing was, and what a genuine good dude he seemed to be. That led me to learn about Billy Sheehan, and eventually Pat Torpey. I was floored by all their playing. I just knew them, for over a decade, as a band that had one mainstream ballad. Mr. Big could go toe to toe with any band on a technical level. RIP Pat Torpey.
My word. I'd never listened to him before, only seen his name in articles and stuff. That was an amazing solo - a perfect combination of chops and musicality. Even as a drummer, I usually lose interest in drum solos that are this long, but this solo was good the whole way through.
I never get tired of this solo, and I keep coming back to it for inspiration and new ideas to apply to my playing. RIP Pat Torpey.. one of the best drummers of all time, in my opinion. 🥁🙏🏾
This is the god of drums! I allways thougth Keith Moon or Simon Phillips are the best drummers. Atfer I heard "temeramental" of Mr. Big on CD I thought, the drums were overdubbed. But then I herd Pat live... i couldn't believe it,,,, this vid is the best of drumming, I ever will see. My girlfriendloves him too. He's the best and even as a man i must confess,...he is so pretty (if I were a girl, I would merry him, hahaa)
@andieundanna1 He's definitely the king of the drums. If only you were a girl and you were happy with her, maybe then Pat would have gotten rid of Parkinson's xd
Era muy reconocido en los 90 en aquellos años era uno de los mejores performers del mundo y en técnica a día de hoy no le superan los grandes performers de hoy. Para mí está dentro de los 5 mejores bateristas de la historia
To me, this man is an iconic player. His ability / independence / control was (I hate having to edit and use that word) so incredibly over the top yet I never heard a song he didn't make better by knowing exactly what to do as the drummer. May he rest in peace.
Great drumming and great sneakers. Had never payed proper attention to Mr. Big but I really felt the need to see who other great musicians were in the band after watching R. Kotzen, Gilbert and Sheehan were in it. Sand to know that Pat already passed away.
After watching videos of Pat playing like these, I become more and more perplexed: how the hell a drummer like THIS is diagnosticated with Parkinson's disease? =( Still cannot believe. Torpey, you were and you are STILL the best!!
