To me it doesn't make sense to punish a player critically succeeding their Escape roll by letting the enemy react. The player earned their five feet to get the heck out of there.

yeah during that discussion I was thinking the same thing. Aint no way I'm letting a monster hit you after escape . Escaping is already hard.

Just because it's RAW doesn't mean it's right! 🤘😁

Point out is actually better than how you described it. If an enemy is not Undetected to you, but is Undetected to an ally, you may perform the Point Out action. When you do, all allies who can see and hear you automatically "locate" the enemy (unless a well-placed Reactive Strike interrupts your action), no check required; that enemy becomes Hidden to them, rather than Undetected. Any allies unable to understand you make a perception check to see if they can "locate" the enemy from your gestures alone, failing that check means that they misunderstand and believe the enemy is in a different location. There's no stated mechanical effect for that, so I would just rule that they don't understand the gestures, and the enemy remains Undetected, no further penalty.

Damn! That's a good point.

lol for Grab and Edge: Critical Success You grab the edge or handhold, whether or not you have a hand free, typically by using a suitable held item to catch yourself (catching a battle axe on a ledge, for example). You still take damage from the distance fallen so far, but you treat the fall as though it were 30 feet shorter. Which is Great!

I almost never use secret rolls. Everything is rolled out in the open. It builds trust between all participants that the rules are being followed, since we can correct mistakes and remind each other when we forget something. As a GM I find that hiding my rolls doesn't actually add anything to the experience, since I trust my players to roleplay appropriately and not use meta knowledge.

Didn't expect a video about basic actions to be this entertaining, but you did it!

Not to be too much of a rules lawyer, but Circumstance Bonuses don't stack. So if you Take Cover, you do not benefit from Raising a Shield.

No worries! Goblin lawyers are important part of tribe! Thank you for the clarification.

I thought that the seek action in combat was for when there are things that are hidden/unseen/or in some other way in an unknow location

I prefer open rolls and to not fudge my rolls, we are playing a game of chance, we rolling with the punches. the action economy is mine to mess with however i choose, but if i wanted to know the outcome without any real interaction from my players i would write a book

This is a great perspective. It's a common dichotomy between tables where the DM is telling a story the player's experience versus the players creating a story alongside the DM.

Considering this is a video about reminding players about rules, you use the word 'tag' throughout the video, rather than the actual term: trait.

Tbh that’s pretty nominal. I think we all know they mean the same thing
@goblinsalvagerites
@goblinsalvagerites 7 месяцев назад
We trip over nomenclature a lot, as you’ve rightly noticed…especially between editions/remasters/individual ttrpgs. These longer videos are unfiltered, unedited & uncut so you’ll see all of our inglorious mistakes…and we prefer it that way. Failing forward is the way to level 20, as all goblins know!
