What I like about the flat-footed condition over advantage is that flat-footed has a higher chance of being a boon to the whole party rather than just yourself. Yeah, Rogue is going to fishing for opportunities to make the opponent flat-footed for sneak attack as part of their gameplay strategy, but the fighter and the monk are probably doing the same thing because forcing an opponent to take -2 to their AC against *everyone's* attacks is huge.

Also borderline necessary vs things above your level

i would say that the biggest difference between the 5e rogue and the pf2 rogue. is the use of the flat footed condition. because the sneak attack rules in 5e are so nebulous and vague when it happens in certain situations. whereas the flat footed is a binary, its either on or off. which as a gm and player i really appreciate.

The APG isn't becoming obsolete. You can still use it. It will still be compatible

Explain to me why is it considered obsolete or whatever please thanks
@Eruvadhril

@@NGjnr Paizo are releasing re-mastered versions of the core books (players guide, advanced players guide, GM guide, and bestiary) with a bunch of errata and new formatting. It's not making the old books obselete; 95% of the content is going to stay the same, and the rules will all be compatible between both sets of rulebooks.

Obsolete wasn't the correct choice of word. We just meant that it was going "Out of Print". Yes it will still be compatible and hopefully all the information is ported to the new remastered core books.

Sneak attack is nice, but getting a skill increase AND a skill feat every level is the main benefit to playing a rogue in pf2.
@ghostyuki-kfpinquisitor1038
Skills: all Also can get 6 legendary skills Possibly more with archetypes like acrobat

I feel like you didn't emphasize that Thief is the only class that can use Dex for damage enough
@ghostyuki-kfpinquisitor1038
Gentlemen thief might also apply to the swashbuckler if not more. Rogue but more flamboyant (though scoundrel rogue also works). Maybe combine the two. Only primary class stat rogue can't take is con. Kineticist might change that. Annoyingly if youre an unarmed ruffian, no early crit spec. Probably also scoping for the reasons you think, just not the only reason :3 What if the farmer's daughter is also a tengu, and maybe the leader was the farmer Keep in mind a rogue isn't always a sneak, sometimes they just fight dirty Sneak attack can still melt a health pool. They also get master strike late game which can just remove a character

Being one of the classic 4 classes, yes they are fairly similar in both 5E and PF2. And while I think Rogue has some of the weakest sub-classes in all of 5E, I get that the flavors and themes are strong. 2 counterpoints for PF2's favor though. The first applies to all classes that getting to pick your feats at so many levels really helps to customize your character to be unique and standout. Now for the rogues in particular, the rackets seem pretty simple but you can go deep with them. A dex-based thief will be different from the smooth-talking charisma-based scoundrel. The ruffian gives us a strength-based rogue that you could never play in 5E. And I know you aren't looking at other books yet but there is also an Intelligence-based Rogue all about planning ahead and outsmarting foes. These different paths let you create some really exciting identities for your rogue.

After that pitch, I'd like some blades in the dark.

When talking about Rogue the first thing for beginners like myself should be explaining Secret Rolls and how those are optional which should be talked at the beginning of the campaign! DM does some hidden rolls asking your bonus to roll and compering it against DC like Stealth Check vs Perception DC -> you don't know if you succeeded or not and may never learn. On opposite end you do all the rolls and DM tells you how it went -> you always know if you fail or succeeded. The difference is how much immersion you want in the games which should be agreed at the beginning of any adventure. The reason this is even an option in rulebook is that for examples rogue takes Hide Action to gain Off-Guard to his Range Attack so he gets his Sneak Damage but with Secret Rolls the Rogue won't know if he gets any of that before Attacking while when player makes the roll and DM tells if you succeeded you can always know who are off-goard. You can also take the middle ground that Player's do all the rolls but DM tells the result afterwards OR DM makes the Secret roll as normal but in combat tells which enemies are Off-Guard against the Rogue 👍 and for me I think DM making Secret Hiding rolls but telling Rogue who are Off-Guard in Combat is best middle ground

Great pop culture references for these. Not the obvious options. Indiana Jones is the kind of Rogue I’m building now.

We will definitely revisit this series in the future. We might wait for the Remastered Player Core to come out first though.

Gotta say, that was quite a murdery heist plan you guys laid out there.

Our half baked brainstorming sessions for the "day in the life" sections can get fairly ridiculous. The final idea is usually toned down to something semi-normal. We try to capture your average player's experience...which sometimes skews a little murder hobo-y. Hope you enjoyed it!

I don't think preferring the 5E rogue due to it being OP makes sense. PF2E is from the ground up designed to be more balanced and focused on party coordination vs how OP you can make a character on their own.

So I think there is an unfair comparison here at the end. You're comparing base core rulebook roque to all the additions over years in 5E when the PF2E rogue has interesting option in other books.
@BasicLiches
@BasicLiches Год назад
That's a valid criticism. Sometimes it's hard to turn your brain off from what you're familiar with!

@@BasicLiches the real question here is will you be doing basic class stuff for other books such as the inventor and gunslinger. are there plans?
