This video discusses and demonstrates the pathfinder flip mat, with an overall review. A great tool if you use a grid at your table. Excellent for new or beginner dungeon masters, because a range of different types of pens can be used. Dungeon master guide on the best battle mat on the market in my opinion. From personal experience, if you bend the mat against the original folding a bit it will lay more flat against the table. Otherwise a good review that I agree with. Also recomend their themed mats as well.

You don't have to write over the permanent mark with the same color to remove it. . . chemically, they are all the same. You don't have to count to 10 either. A couple of seconds will do.

Good to know. But the reason I used the same colour, is so that the tips don't get contaminated.

What kind of markers do You use? Which can You erase easier?

Dry eraser. White board markers.

How water resistant is the mat? I recently spent a few hours making my own map with a grid, only to have a player spill their drink on it and completely destroyed it. These things happen, sure. But I don't want it happening again lol

I wonder ... would wrapping it around a xmas wrapping tube get the creases out or make the creases less irritable? Perhaps that would be worse. Can applying sticky puddy to the opposite side take away the creases?

I don't think it will work, but give it a try. The only way to sort the problem is to put a plastic clear sheet over the top or a sheet of glass.

Oh, one last question! I have the mat from the PF beginner box and I find it hard to get it to settle down. I use PF minis and they are pretty light, so they can't really press the surface down with their weight. Does it get better with age, as you unfold and attempt to flatten it many times? I haven't used it much yet.

The mat you have has the same issue that all flip mats have. They do not settle down, no matter how old they get. The best solution is to put a piece of glass or perspective (clear plastic sheet) over the top of the flip mat.

Well, that's a bit of a bummer. I suppose I can just use gaming paper instead. That way we can keep all the dungeon maps rolled in a tube, for the sake of reminiscin'! :D

You could just make your own battle mat and get it laminated with a gloss finish at a stationary supplier. I have seen people make their own mats in A3 and A2 size.

I have one of those gifted by a friend but even with A2, I'm not sure there will be enough one-inch squares to hold a medium-to-large dungeon.

Try putting two A2 size mats together. A friend of mine does this.

Esteban Hernandez I played Pathfinder for years. It is just just more complex than I would prefer, with a steep learning curve. I stopped playing because it was bound to the grid and seemed to be coded for combat and felt like I was limited. But the Mat, miniatures and other game accessories are excellent.

I am sorry for your pain, but there is a company that grows trees in 1-2 years. That timber then gets milled and turned into paper. It's not rainforest.
