Dave seems like a totally cool dude. Not some douche that is full of himself. Dave i respect your knowledge and the fact that you obviously enjoy sharing it. Been watching you for years .Thank you for the many useful things you have taught me just from watching the videos you make,
I think it is outstanding the training you offer fills a basic need in the modern world for this knowledge. These days few people have grown up in the outdoors like we used to do.
4 of us are signed up for he basic class in March. Can't wait. I have watched all of you videos, Dave. Learned a lot, looking forward to learning more.
thanks for this video. excellent information! it would be nice to see this bundled in your store to get a good deal for all the kit you need. different bundles could be created for different needs/classes. it would also be nice to see a list of the equipment in the description along with links to the items in your store. no reason why you shouldn't be able to generate additional revenue by drawing those connections, and we would all love the convenience of the links. keep these great videos coming!
Hi dave my name is caleb I'm a big fan I've been watching u sense i was 10 and before u stop doing dual survival and i wanted to no if u have to be 18 to take the pathfinderschool classes because I'm almost seventeen now and would like to no please respond if possible
Finally! A professional! Someone that knows what they're talking about. AND...you have NOTES to help you remember what you want to cover, in what order. You have to be the first speaker I've seen on YT that has notes! Most folks just wing it and it shows repeatedly that they are just talking off the top of their head with little or more likely NO preparation. THANK YOU for your presentation.
I love the fact that he constantly drives the point it doesn't have to be equipment from his store, get what you can. It tells me he really loves doing it and profit isn't his main motivator
Can't wait to attend this class with my bf next year for our joined birthday present to each other! What a great experience it will be, and I can't wait to meet you to learn from the best!!!!
Hey Dave, love the videos brother! Along with the items you have shown through out the videos I have also added a onion bag to my kit. I have found so many uses for this from a fishnet, or a crawfish/minnow trap to stuffing it with grass for a pillow. Not to mention the storage uses of it. Just wanted to share it with ya all I havent seen it on any of your videos but then again I havent watched them all yet either. Keep'em comin bro you are a walking encyclopedia of knowledge!!
When I make charcloth I just put my cloth under my fire in dirt and have my fire let it die all the way down and bam char cloth works 99.99% of the time lol
Please help me I'm sure that you probably seen some of these RU-vid videos of pasta about bug out bags ang bags and this new snap bag they been talking about. But one thing they really are forgetting it is properly dressing for winter conditions you know as well as I do going into the mountains going up in elevation been exposed to the wind and the temperature dropped I'm just being winter is a dangerous combination plus the occasional Blizzard coming through If they're not properly dressed they are going to freeze to death and I die so please help me save lives at least on this subject by getting the word out about dressing in layers you know some thermals maybe some sweats the regular clothes maybe some thermal insulated overalls and a jacket thermal gloves something to keep your head warm as well as their feet and I understand wool is the best thing I know it holds 80 percent of its warmth even when it gets wet but not everybody can afford the best of stuff so please help me with this pass the word around and let's get this situation dealt with before people die and they need to understand that means extra weight in the pack thank you
As i said earlier Dave's backpack is a pretty enough tool carrier. For example, Russian bushcrafters and hunters sometimes recommended "this things for emergency". as a result you have a lot pieces of bullshit in backpack on your shoulders and thinking- what am i doing here? i can watch Dave's video on youtube at home!))))) thanks Dave.
Great job, your time in military serves you well on briefing! So if I show up with a Zippo /fluid, and suger& potassium permanganate you'd work with me?! LOL
Dave, I've always thought that candles were great to have in a kit, so much so, that I usually carry two, one in a dedicated candle lantern and one as part of my fire kit. The cheap dripping candles work great at starting fires in wet conditions,(assuming of course that you can light the candle) and they can add a few degrees of heat inside your shelter. Candle wax can be used in waterproofing, lubricating and a dozen other applications. They don't need batteries. If you break one, you get two. They're reliable. They even start with the letter 'C'. But I've never heard you mention one. Am I wrong about candle power?
i'm finally satisfied that dave is a real dude! so far i thought i had a great understanding of the outdoors. all the great stuff he comes up with helps me to remember what i forgot! thanx and keep it up. i live for the outdoors and more amped up than ever before, great teaching's. V.Mtz
The issue of taking your classes isn't in the cost of supplies, or the cost of the class; it's in the travel costs! It would be great if you/your instructors traveled to major areas (ie: Sacramento, CA) and held classes. I belong to a non-extreme 'prepper' group that would easily take up 20+ places in just one of your classes, if we didn't have the travel expenses.
I would really love to see you do Alone, I remember when Dual Survival first aired I was a fan from the git. Love the fact that you share your knowledge and that you are a humble man. Your an awesome guy Dave!
Great videos I learned a lot from all your knowledge. I just found out that paracord planet makes a 3000 pound tensile strength paracord called paramax 5/16 in.But I don't see anybody on the internet making a video on this maybe nobody knows about it. Going back to watch some more your videos now.
I wish i was in the US so i can do one of your courses, i live in Australia, come to Australia one day and do one of your classes, you would have at least 20-50 people
I have seen some of your videos and I like to see how to survive in the wilderness, one of my favorite videos is is how to make a bundle bow in the wilderness, but wouldn't it be easier and more effective if you made a finger-sling or a shepherds sling instead? A properly made finger sling can even throw a projectile farther than a bow can shoot. tell me what you think.
I would think that instead of sending all the students out to buy this gear, it would be more efficient for the students if Dave or his assistants were to buy it in bulk, reduce it in size, package it and make it available to his students to purchase what they don't have. When a student arrives, they buy what they need, ie 1/4 bag of steel wool $2, 100' of bank line $2, roll of duct tape $5, ferro rod $20, knife $20-300, stainless steel cup and bottle $30, tarp $5-80...
Dave i,m getting my gear together so i can take your basic class. I have a 16" axe,, so I was wondering which knife to get. A condor nessmuk or a condor bushlore. thank you answering.
You are the coolest. I made the sling arrow as per instruction on your video. Works great. Thanks you are a true and straight arrow. I slapped a whisker basket right on top of a Barnett. the newer whisker baskets fit right on top dead center.
i sure wish you came to ontario, canada i know you would be booked solid but some how i have to talk the wife into maning up with the kid because daddy and his buddies are going to the US to hang out with dave for the weekend lol.
I live in Sydney Australia, i wish i could attend one of your courses, come to Australia one day mate, you would have heaps of people that would do your classes, i have a property you can use
Hey Dave, thank you for the great videos! I have a question, what do you recommend for shoes? I know this is not a question Cody would be able to answer haha
hey dave, you really need to do a video of the contents of the "Pathfinder Basic Survival Pack" kit. what suunto compass does the kit come with? will I need anything else for the basic class? thanks again for another great video. :)
I Love your vids and I wish u were still on dual survival and I was wandering if u could put my name out there in one of your vids that would help me a lot because I just got started on RU-vid and I need a little help so that would be awesome thanks for your vids and your skills that you past down to me keep up the good work
I just watch a vid by Wranglerstar about your pocket axe. Did you not like it, I've looked but can't find a vid by you about. I thought it turned out great. Love your work and thanks for your service.
I'm not very good using a flint and steel.I tried knapping a piece of quartz,no go could'nt get a decent edge on it.As I was using what somewhat edge of the quartz to strike the steel, the quartz kept chipping. The worst was hurting my fingers as I was trying to get a spark. There were some sparks not nearly sufficient to ignite excellerant ie charcloth,What am I doing wrong?
After getting the message of the grand opening of the Indianapolis store (which I am trying to make arrangements to attend) I put $20 in a coffee can with a piece a 2 inch masking tape as a label. It reads,"Pathfinder School Basic Class Tuition." I am on a tight budget. Only able to work part time due to disability. (Don't worry I can do everything required at the class.) But I should have the money saved up to take the basic class in the Spring of 2018.
Just type "The Pathfinders School" in the search engine, select the one with Dave's name in the description, you can find all the info. plus ALOT more.
I bought most of my pack gear from wilderness outfitters, like the 32 oz. SS canteen & cup, cooking ring, and the Hudson Bay tobacco tin. The bank line I purchased at Wal-Mart. They call it Catfish Tarred Setline. #36 x 486 ft. 235 lb. tinsel strength. About $ 8 bucks.
Dave you just sold me on the course with this video. I like the bit about not nit picking about gear. Question though. I have a Becker BK2, if I ground a space on the spine to strike a ferrol rod would that work? Might try and swing this class this year. Great work.
There is a small cutout at the base of the blade on the BK2. It works great as a fire striker. I will be buying one of those myself very soon. Hope that wasn't too late to be of assistance to you.
I took the Becker BK16, the "smaller brother of the BK2" to the Intermediate class last weekend. The spine isn't a perfect 90 Degree angle, and the coating prevents sparks with flint until you take a file and remove the coating. Good luck!
I go back and watch these over and over. You remind me of my uncles but with an internet presence. I grew up in the woods but I’ve been able to build a good collection of bullet proof gear to make staying in the woods more comfortable.
Very well done. I like how you emphasized not to duck out if you don't have a specific thing. If I could, this one would be a 2 thumbs up. Good list and quick reasoning. Enjoy and stay safe. ~ Chet
I've been shopping at the pathfinder school store for about a year. Not only does he carry all of it, but the prices are better than I've found elsewhere. It always arrives quickly and is nicely packaged. Best part is, there is a tremendous sense of satisfaction from the fact that you are supporting the channel. It has become my go-to place to shop.
Seeing reviews like this, really give me the hump!! I live in the UK and know I could never afford to come to the USA and take Dave's classes. Dave if you &/ or your staff came to England, I would love to take your classes, I have access to 26.5 acres of woodland to use, & I could find the funds to take your classes God Bless
I think that would be a great video aswell self reliance with a dog, considering I have two dogs I recently started building med kit for them in the field for small injuries but would love your input Dave!!!
Hey Dave love your vids, you got me out in the bush and having lots of fun. I was wondering if you have any age limits because i am only 13, and I have all the gear
Great video's and subject matter Dave! I am only guessing why the #0000 steel wool would be needed, but i had an incident in my garage, while i was grinding on steel for a smoker i was building, long story short,a spark landed on a roll of #0000,it was smoldering at 750 degrees! Core temp, this would be a very useful item to have to help in damp conditions.THNX
Thank you so very much for sharing. I was hoping that you could give me some tips on how to prepare for a survival class. I’m a disabled veteran and I have a lot of chronic back pain. I would love to take your class I just don’t know how to prepare for it so that I can make it to the end of the class. Thank you for your time and patience. God bless you
Great video, but in my opinion you need more than that. Like a first aid kit, some mres, gloves, poncho or raincoat etc. I dont understand, why he has just a knife for cutting tool and considers a saw or an axe as optional. Never go out in the woods without an axe guys...
Has no one ever requested that you just make it easier by adding links to these items in your store so that we can see exactly what it is you recommend plus possibly up the chances of people just buying from your store as opposed to the cheap crap we all end up finding on Amazon? Just a thought or a request. Or both lol. Either way thank you for sharing all that you do.
I also just wanted to say Dave I love that not only do you give us such detailed and straight-forward advice for free but you also interact with us on a one-to-one basis unlike some youtubers who act high and mighty. I disagreed with you on one of your other videos about hidden tangs not being as good as full tangs (given proper heat treatment & steel) and you responded respectfully and didn't talk down to me or block me. Keep being down to earth and an overall awesome teacher. :)
Love it! Just letting you know. i got a kit together and started going out into my woods this year because of you dave! thank you man! one thing i like a lot is stuff about frontiersmen and pioneers
Hi Dave I got a question for you I know you're going to video on it but I'm not sure specifically what your answer is to my specific question if you would carry two knives only two knives and you were going to spend the rest of your life in the woods what two knives would you carry... How thank you in advance for your reply I really enjoy your videos and I watch them and I try to implement what I watch in my daily life I do live off-grid
I plan on buying the 10L dry bag off the pathfinder store but I am just trying to get an idea of the size of the 10L dry bag, the orange bag you have there is that a 5L or 10L bag.
I have been ordering gear from ya guys, its quality and I am thankful. Also I have a question, (i may be out of the loop here)...are you planning on doing another television series?
I will be signing up soon look forward to taking as many classes as possible i have tools in place now need extra training that mora bushcraft black would add nicely to my kit hint hint
