I am currently enrolled In an approved and verified course sequence, and its has intensive practicum… I will finish my classes in the spring of 2022 and that this is when I will apply for my certification… May questions is. On the BACB site says that independent of when you accrued your hours, if you apply for the certification after jan 2022 I will need 1500 fieldwork not the 750 hours,..I am reading this wrong? I was accepted at ABA program this summer.
Hi Lidiane. Good question. Yes, that is what they are saying. I actually made a video about that and at first I stated, you could stay under the current rules if you begin before 2022. However, I went back onto the website and read the same as you and made another video stating that it was saying you had to complete the hours before 2022 or you'll have to complete the hours required under the 2022. I had to make sure that this was correct so I kept reading it and that's what I have come to understand. I actually would like to call or email them to make sure. Really good question. I guess they are going to just have the 1500 hours option and the 2000 hour option starting 2022. Thank you for sharing. Please let me know what other questions you may have. I have worked as an ABA therapist for 2 years and i am interested in becoming a BCBA. However, I have a Masters in Human Services. Do you think that will qualify for a certificate program? I want to get a BCBA certificate instead of having to get another Masters
Hi Kayla. You should be able to get into a certificate program with your master's. Most programs do tend accept individuals from all backgrounds. I think it is a good field and the job market is growing. Much fortune in applying.

Thank you so much for breaking it down for everyone! I’m interested in obtaining my BCBA certification -already have a Masters in Psychology. Im starting a job as a behavior technician and they’ll pay for me to become an RBT as well. (Don’t know if this is necessary or not) so can I use these hours towards my hours for certification? Also the requirements in my state (NY) asks for a LBA. Can you discuss what is required to obtain this as well? Thank you again!!

I think that once you get into a certificate program you'll be able to start accruing the hours. I dont know if the hours right now would count...but it's worth looking into. Island Bella I’m I the same boat essentially. I have my Masters in mental health counseling Psychology and looking into working as an RBT while I finish a certification program in ABA...I’m still not sure where to start or if working as an RBT is worth it. Any suggestions or advice? Thank you!
Eager Amusement hey! Working as an RBT will help you obtain the hours that you need for supervision but make sure your job will sign off on it. Once you start your program, then you’ll start accruing the hours. I’m looking to start Capella in January and if I get the job this month, I’m all set and ready to go. Would you be able to provide information as to whether UK accredited degrees count as the degree required to become a BCBA ?
Hi Sanaa. Thank you for watching. The the certification board BACB, will evaluate your degree to see if it meets qualifications. I believe that you may even be able to email them and ask them if they can evaluate it prior to you graduating. If it meets the requirements and as long as you have the extra BCBA courses needed to sit for the exam, you should be good to go. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

You can look up programs that are online, on campus or hybrid. Many schools may assist you in finding a supervisor. Sometimes you may have to look for one that can provide you supervision once you get into the practicum/internship phase of the program.
Hello! Hope all is well with you and yours! I have a BA in Psychology and my Masters in Education. Originally I wanted to teach, but just in case I want to expand my options I started looking into becoming an Aba therapist. Because I will be furthering my education some more, I will only do ABA therapy part time. Will they still have benefits for part timers? Also, I remember hearing something about a car or transportation (maybe), I believe you need a valid license? Do they reimburse gas?
Hi Kimora, much fortune on getting into ABA. Also...really good questions. It will depend on which organization you work for. Some companies will offer some benefits to part time workers and may offer mileage reimbursement. Some organizations won't offer either. Please let me know what other questions you may have.
@@kimoramicheal8353 I have worked for some agencies, not as an ABA therapist, but in different roles where they did mileage reimbursement. Also I have worked in some places where they offered limited benefits to part-time employees.

Here is more on BCABAs- www.bacb.com/bcaba/ If you want to become a BCBA then you'll do functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans. As a BCBA you'll do observations, teacher/parent/student interviews, and design interventions based on student behaviors. As an ABA therapist you can probably expect to make around $13-$16 an hour. Hey, I hope your still answering questions. I have a BA in Sociology, recently I decided to explore the Alternate Teacher’s route in my state. The majority of the credits can be applied to a Masters degree in teaching. With a masters degree in teaching/secondary education and a certificate program for ABA will I be eligible to take the BCBA exam? Also if I get a masters in special education would the certificate program be necessary? Thank you !!!
Hi Emmie. I would get into a masters program with a verified BCBA course sequence. That would be the best option here since you have your bachelors degree. You could do a special education masters with ABA coursework or a masters in ABA. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

I will starting my certificate program this fall but my program doesn’t require a practicum so I’m not sure if that is bad. How would you go about finding a practicum? Also is it paid?
Hi. Good question. To become a BCBA you do have to have practicum/internship hours. If your program doesn't offer a practicum or internship then you can get a BCBA supervisor. You can possibly reach out to some organizations that have BCBAs that are available to supervise. I'm not sure if it will be paid but, you could work toward completing hours. In 2022 the minimum amount of required for certification will change. Right now you can do an intensive practicum of 750 hours. In January 2022 that will go away. You may also ask a professor that is a BCBA if they can supervise you, if it is possible. Please let me know what other questions you may have.
I think you answered it. I’m just a bit stressed with trying to organize myself and get this process going. I think I will go with The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I believe they meet the BACB accreditation, I will also contact a BCBA supervisor in my area and work towards those practicum hours, while completing my program, apply to take exam, hopefully pass, then find work as a BCBA.
