You can give kids the option: "Would you like A or B for dinner?" Say lasagna or chicken and potatoes or something. Normal, healthy options. It gives you control but let your kids feel like their opinions matter, too. The only time I might give them full control, with a reasonabe limit, is on their birthday. Making it more of a treat than an every day occurence.

@@susanlett9632 You're right. And I think it's because so many of them see the surgery as a "quick fix" so even when they know they're overeating, they think it should be enough to just say that they're trying when they're obviously not doing enough to help themselves.

@@ncfo20 A lot of them go into it thinking that after the surgery they can still eat what they want, and will lose the weight automatically because at first, they will eat smaller portions, but then they go and overeat all the bad foods, throw up, then don't understand why they're throwing up, and not losing weight. 🙄It's not easy to lose weight, even with the surgery, it is hard! Honestly, I have had patients that blame their continued lack of physical progress on everyone and everything. I will be patient with someone to help them reach their goals, but I cannot make you want to change. I can encourage....but at the end of the day a person needs to want to get better for themselves. And support can help, but again, ultimately, you have to want it for yourself.

It’s crazy how people think eating serving size potions is equal to starving yourself. My kids are the reason I keep healthy I couldn’t imagine not being a part of their lives because I was unhealthy. I have to be vigilant just to keep myself alive. I feel bad when people are so off the rails they’d rather orphan their kids than do something challenging
@pontifixmax
@pontifixmax 7 месяцев назад
Part of the problem is that when people get that big, their stomachs are never full. Combine that with the psychological issues that drive some people to eat and become that big in the first place, you have a nearly insurmountable problem.
@retroreceptionist7571
@retroreceptionist7571 7 месяцев назад
@@pontifixmax right. My point is they are going to have to go through those uncomfortable things if they truly want to get better. A lot of times they won’t get the mental health help to go along with it and unfortunately their loved ones end up having to carry the burdens and bury them. I just mean that if at all in my control, I couldn’t feel like a good mother if I put food before my kids having me in their life. And the kids suffer and follow the same path because it’s modeled as okay. I think this show offers surgery free of charge and if I was given a life saving opportunity like that, I couldn’t in good faith squander it.

I like how Dr. Now is calm and tells this lady that she lost no weight. He is a cool doc who tells the truth and i have seen when he straight up tells a patient you are not trying to lose weight exactly what he told this lady. I think it is funny how she tried convincing the doc that she walked the whole dept. store thinking that he would believe her(i am astounded that the lady next to her didn't point out like you were riding the scooter not walking around the store) and telling the doc like i am sticking to the diet which in reality all i saw was no veggies only fatty stuff- like french fries/cupcakes/hot dogs and hamburgers/etc and she don't understand why she ain't lost no weight? I do admit that she moved the fastest i have seen someone her size out of that office, if she moved that fast she would have lost way more weight. I can see that she wants to be more part in her kids lives but if you can't change your eating habits and stay off the d*mn scooter(i can understand if you have arthitis or knee problems) you will gain much more weight and have more health problems that will end up up killing you(i am sorry to say that last part but it is the truth). I do hope this lady comes to her senses and changes her ways and maybe get weight loss surgery someday.

So I just watched the whole episode and after her big storm out she does admit he was right and she does turn things around and even got a 54lb lump of fat removed off her stomach surprisingly way before I thought he was going to approve her for that, she still weighed 400 when he did it. It's weird how he is really easy on some patients and not others when it comes to his requirements. He did both of her surgeries a lot quicker than I've seen him do most people saying she was in danger I guess because of the shape of her body maybe idk.

Many patients feel this is an easy fix it is not by any means . It takes a lot of mental work because you have to fix your relationship with food. You must find your triggers and learn a new normal . The surgery itself it's not long but the recovery is painful both physically and mentally . I did my due diligence and sought any help available and I'm still a working progress 9 months out I have lost 100 pounds I have 50 to get to my goal weight of 150 . I developed body issues because I don't see the progress although my scale and clothes say different . I also have excess skin not too much I can live with that . I would do it all over again because it quite literally saved my life. I was tired of being tired and eating all the wrong things . Now I eat small portions and I love it ❤. Please do tour research find great team of people that can help you through the process. Because the work begins hour 1 after tour surgery and it's lifelong . Be prepared to have hair loss and you have to take vitamins everyday for the rest of your life. It's not an easy decision to make but it's worth it . After years of fad diets and telling myself to eat less it lead to more weight gain .

Something to consider, too, is that mental health and trauma are at the very core of these issues. Psychological change is HARD. Harder than losing weight. I wonder how many negative commenters have been through therapy and stood up to face their own trauma and emotional and mental struggles.

They kept the cupcakes in the refrigerator without covering them and put them on the dirty carpet in the back of the vehicle then took them to the school uncovered. Seeing that really makes me glad that my kids school doesn’t allow home cooked items. All treats have to be store-bought and individually wrapped thank God.

It's an addiction. And a cycle. Whether it is a source of relief from abuse, or depression etc. And one regular meal, leads to several, and healthy portions etc. just like I don't understand people who do drugs, or habitually cheat but the reasoning is always to direct attention to something else. The brain is so very interesting.
