Pre-existing Fan Base: One of the most significant advantages Joe Budden had was an already established fan base from his music career. These fans are more likely to give his new ventures, such as podcasting, a try simply because they appreciate his work in another domain. Industry Insights: Having worked in the music industry, Budden has firsthand knowledge and experience which allows him to provide insights and opinions that someone outside of the industry wouldn't have. This makes his content more unique and insightful, drawing listeners who are curious about the inner workings of the music world. Network: Being in the music industry allowed Budden to create a network of other artists, producers, and industry insiders. This network can be tapped into for podcast guests, giving his show a unique appeal by having high-profile interviews and discussions. Name Recognition: Even for those who might not have been fans of his music, Joe Budden's name carries weight. This name recognition can pique the interest of potential listeners, making them more likely to check out his podcast. Authenticity: Joe Budden's authenticity, which he displayed as an artist, carries over to his podcast. This isn't something unique to entertainers, but his frank and sometimes controversial takes are amplified by the fact that he's speaking from experience. Media Skills: Having been in the entertainment industry, Budden already possessed media and public speaking skills which can be a challenge for newcomers to the podcasting scene. Being comfortable in front of a microphone and knowing how to engage an audience are skills honed over years of performing. Monetary & Production Resources: With the earnings and connections from his music career, Budden likely had access to better production resources when starting out than an average individual diving into podcasting. In contrast, someone without the name recognition, industry insights, or the network has to carve out a niche for themselves from scratch. This can be both an advantage and a challenge. On one hand, they have the freedom to shape their brand without any preconceived notions. On the other hand, they might struggle with gaining initial traction, securing high-profile guests, or accessing premium production resources. While both paths have their own sets of challenges, it's undeniable that Joe Budden's journey to podcasting success had unique advantages due to his previous career in the music industry.

My mom came in and heard me watching this pod not knowing what it is at all and when I told her “it’s joe budden’s podcast” that immediately peaked her interest. She didn’t even recognize his face, she just remembered his name. Whether this pod was good, bad, popular, or unpopular, that type of interaction doesn’t change. That right there just proves Joe’s “starting point” take to be completely wrong. That name recognition, no matter how long it takes, changes the trajectory of your content.

Also, another clear thing from this discussion is Akademiks STILL does not know how valuable he is. He is not only the voice for many in the culture, most of us get our 'news' from his streams. He is one of one. .He knows that, but he REALLY doesn't know fully.

Ian gave out some game and it went over a lot of people’s heads. Especially when he talked about equity and allowing corporations to determine your value. They’ve got us undercutting each other chasing the bag and we’re leveraging our power to do it. There’s power in unity and collective bargaining or at least having a uniform minimum standard.
