I am 62 years old Japanese. Around 1980, people danced to this song during the disco boom in Japan. It's a really nostalgic song. And the bass she plays is amazing.
When she veers ever so slightly to ad lib is great.. She has more than enough skill to expand past the set template and times her free-form "steps" perfectly. You simply can't squeeze into a funk riff like this and NOT express the artistic rush. Body movements don't lie, she's on it! More videos please (should I introduce her to Marcus Miller...hmmm?)
yeah I think this is a bass face cover...because if she nails the faces, but if you actually look at the bass guitar, there isn't a cord going into it lol
It's a difficult song to play, I've been working on it and I have been playing bass for a while. It's funny how some bassist don't even try slap. Most importantly She's having fun with it! Well done!
'Bravo' is a term with different meaning depending on the situation it is used. The first of them is when it is employed as an adjective for he or she, 'bravo' (El = He) and its femenine form 'brava' (Ella = She) are commonly used as synonyms for the adjective 'valiente' (El/Ella = He/She) that means brave e.g. "Ella es brava (valiente)" that translates to English as "She is brave". The second situation is when it is used as an adverb to qualify an action, in this occasion the term 'bravo' is describing the performance in a good way implying it was good, great, amazing, excellent, etc. Finally, the third case is when we congratulate someone, the term 'bravo' is used as synonym for 'felicidades' (congratulations) or 'aplausos' (applause). Conclusion: the comment you were trying to correct, was actually ok since he or she was using 'bravo' in "Bravo performance" as a compliment (adverd; describing her performance) to say she did and excellent performance and not as an adjective (describing her) as you're implying.
Marta, wherever you are, I pray you are well and still working on your craft! You are tremendously blessed with such skills through a great work ethic and hope to see how you've progressed since these videos were posted! God bless!
There’s nothing better than watching a fellow musician get lost in the groove. That’s what funk does. This is my kind of art. Marta, you would be an absolute dream to jam with ! Please keep doing you. Cheers.
I can't believe I am still enjoying this song like when it first came out, and a young lady who wasn't even born yet, is jamming a base and somehow making it sound better, about 40 years later.
@@allennewborn932 I dont think that he meant that Marta played it 40 years after release. I think he meant that he is enjoying the song 40 years later.
@@allennewborn932 I think you need a math brush up. If it was released in 1982, and it's 2021 now, that's 39 years ago. My 40 year estimate was way closer than your 30 year calculation. You actually were in hurry to reply, and didn't even take 5 seconds to figure it out on a piece of paper first. That's comical. Nice try though.
@@Madi_Ernar Thank you, it's nice to know someone has common sense and can do math. I thought it was released about 1978, but even if it was 1982, that's 39 years ago. My estimate was 1 year off, and someone takes to write a comment. We in America, have too much free time.
@@jdysontube Wow. Are you an SJW? I'm a woman and I see nothing wrong with what he said. Are men not allowed to compliment anymore? I mean...I thought your type just got mad about men commenting on big tits or something. What is wrong with you??? If you are a man then you are with an SJW I bet.
I have to say, This young lady is very talented. She slap those cords like a vet. I enjoyed that,.. Goes to show that soul has no Limit, nor discrimination. Bless
Yeah, I'm 63 and remember this song in 1982 when i joined the navy and went to boot camp in San Diego. I've always loved this song. The bass riff. Classic old scholl funk. A pleasure to see a young Katt learnin the old school ways back when the P Funk dropped bombs back in the day. She's fan-fookin_tastK!!! It brought back great memories and made me cry. Thanks luv. Great job.
This young lady's bass playing never ceases to amaze me . Quite brilliant, makes everything she plays look effortless . Her version of Paul Youngs, Everytime you Go,away is on the frettless is my fave.
Easy fix. First 2 sliders on the Equalizer (bass and mid bass) need to be moved up a notch or 2. (This is an oversimplification so you will need to experiment)
I’m a drummer at heart. God I wish I could lock eyes with her and play this song. If you are a musician or play an instrument you will understand my comment. Wow she is so into it❤️ i’ve always been impressed this video. She is so good at it and also, the mix is really good. Excellent job!!
March 29, 2013... ... Jamiroquai took her on tour through South America after seeing her videos. That's got to be about the biggest honor you could ever get: to have you idol ask you to take their place..... Hey; Marta: We waith more of your videos!!! PLEASE!!! :-) Greetings, & The Best of Luck from Ireland: Renzo *
***** if that's true man she deserves it,hope to see some new stuff from her,she actually inspired me to pick up my bass and play after looking at it for 2 years! thanks Marta!
Paul Simard It is true. She had a second facebook page where she posted it with photos of her with Jamiroquai. For some reason, she or someone else took the page down. If we search hard enough, we might still be able to find it on the web.
I'm sixty years old and I love it when the younger generation like us before them share a love for our music. This is truly a timeless classic, one that makes you remember who you were with and what you were doing the first time you heard it. Great job young lady!
Huba huba!! Marta is multi talented and beautiful to boot. Thanks to you tube a few years later than when this video first came out, I’m enjoying it for the first time and simply loving it.
I love this song and that’s what brought me here. I’ve always loved the bass and have plans to learn how to play it after I retire in a few years. I hope my face shows as much joy as Marta’s does when she’s playing it.
Patrice Rushen was definitely a funk master from back in the day. While I would argue that she (this young lady) showcased the bass well, Patrice laid down the groove and hard. The bass riff was so timeless that Will Smith used it for his hit Men in Black. I’d like to hear her play covers of Patrice Rushen’s Look Up, as well as some Taste of Honey (Rescue Me).
@@jeconomides my thoughts? The people giving it a thumbs down cannot play the bass or any other instrument. They sit behind their keyboard ready to criticize people who are not only doing something, but are putting themselves out there. If they cannot be supportive then the least they can do is STFU.
Haters gonna hate, I guess. Sad, isn't it, that there exist malcontents who would give this a thumbs down. Kudos to Marta for sharing her talent with us, despite the negativity she knew she would be exposing herself to. but 71K to 1K is a fantastic ratio in her favour. Play on, Marta! Play on.
This song has been in hi rotation for me ever since it came out in 1982. It's one of my all-time favorites. In all that time, I've never appreciated the incredible bass line. Thank you for posting this!
Marta you rock girl, i play this song on my Rickenbacker 4001 I bought new in 1969 I worked for WB Reprise records when Patrice came out with this song. Im 72 with a full head of long hair thumping on my Rick. And Marta you are gorgeous!!!
Your bass cover is just so great! I can't say anything else! Thank you for the great music! I have been moving my body automatically listening to your cover
Bad to the bone! Go baby. Right in the center of the pitch, note for note. You've done a wonderful thing. Bass and drum were always my favorites because I grew up in this era. I'm a funk child, and this is one my favorite songs ever by one of my favorie artists. I was in love the minute I heard it in 1980. I don't know what or who led you to this piece but I thank God for it. Thank you babygirl for this forget me not. 😀😀😀😀😀
I didn't grow up in that era because of my age ,I am 44 ,but I am also a admirer of the funk and rythm and blues music and of course all kind of music when it has great quality as that masterpiece.
You have absoluetly nailed a classic track-i don't many people who can do this? you are simply on point with every note. Genius on that electric guitar.
The bass was made for *soul* music! Not in any other genre of music is the bass made for but Funk & Soul! She's great, she's in the pocket, it sounds awesome baby girl!
This is inspirational to anyone who has ever played bass. Back in 1979 I was in the Jazz scene in Orlando Florida, and fell in with a group of pretty credible musicians (group led by a guy with a stage name of “C Sharp”.) As touristy as that may sound, they were all competent instrumentalists, and could blow a top shelf Be-Bop set all night. Then, in discussions with the bassist, we concluded that playing Charlie Parker’s “Ko Ko” was a permanent milestone for measuring someone’s ability (with Coltrain’s “Five Steps” a close second.) I still have the chart for “Cherokee” he sketched out for me on a bar napkin. Having watched this video at least a dozen times, I believe for electric bass players, this is the equivalent of “Ko Ko” in the realm of Pop. Marta is phenomenal in this performance. The effortless skill, and the joy of nailing every bar, every phrase of this song brings vicarious joy.
For sure!!! Only difference,he does no hammering He played those fast 6 notes with the thumb But you don’t hear the difference Nevertheless she is soooo talented 👍
Simplesmente amo está música! Você arrasa garota!!! Eu dancei muiiito esta música nos anos 80 nas discotecas. Que saudade deste tempo! Abraço carinhoso pra você Marta!!!💞
I love the look of total bliss. I bet she has amazing stage presence. I have been sharing this on my social media sites. My friends have been totally floored.
Marta! I don't know what's going on in your life-hopefully better things.. But know this homegirl! The WORLD needs you! And you look so fkn happy doing what you do. Don't stop! Come back to us Marta!- we need your BASS!
That smile...I see it over and over again with others and their instruments too. I break out the big smile every now and then as well heh, such a lovely feeling. Great playing! :D I hope you haven't quit the bass D:
