Her character's last words: "I just thought there would be more", was delivered so well , with so much melancholy, that from that moment onwards it's helped me appreciate every breath, emotion and memory I've had the privelage of living through. So yes, she did deserve this award.
deborah lariscy No, Ellar was seated several rows behind. After Patricia went up on the stage, Ellar sat in her seat next to Linkletter while she gave her speech.
1:31 Why on Earth would they seat the poor guy all the way in the back, to the point where he had to jog his way to his cast members? Gosh, talk about awkward...
+Fern Fernis Fernie omg omg omg omg omg why did I rewatch I'm experiencing the worst second degree embarrassment right now lol. Watching him run all the way up just to be ignored by her (obviously by accident but still) SO freaking awkward..
Did anyone notice Ellar running all the way from behind to greet her...puts a hand on her before she heads to the stage, then retreats and Ethan Hawke give him a huge hug ! :) I just love that moment. Not because she didn't notice him, but because Ethan was selfless and wasn't just looking at Patricia. He really did portray one of the best Dad's ever.
Patty used her platform to uplift all women, she just made a mistake and said and blacks, but not black women, or people of color, or colored people, or whatever they’re called these days
True. One of the most haunting films ever made. I cried so MUCH. Mason's story reminded me in some parts of mine. It was an out of body experience to watch it. It was disheartening, gutwrenching and beautiful to watch this kid grow up. It made me realize how time flew and flies so rapidly, how fragile and fleeting life can be, how in the blink of an eye you were an innocuous kid, then a rambunctious teen and turning without warning as a full blown adult. And in between, you face predicaments, deaths, drama, confusion, angst, first times, first kisses, meet your best friends who might stick till the end or not, lose your virginity or not, succeed at school or fail expeditiously, you live to the fullest until settling down, move-ins and move-outs, witness your parents fighting, have your first dog, spend countless sleepovers talking about girls or boys even both, gossip about anyone at school and playing videogames, go to camp spending summers of a lifetime with kids you'll never see again or not, you crush on other people, you get your heart broken, you fight with your parents and siblings but you learn how to LIVE. And still, the older you get, you never cease learning and growing. Watching Boyhood left me reeling and crying for a whole night. But I felt pride and closure. My past has been a tainted, wild journey but turning into a 28 year old graduate from grad school with a Master's degree, living in Paris and able to withstand depression, two suicide attempts, being a gifted child with ADHD, bullying and being bullied, my mom's car crash, losing some friends to untimely deaths or by going to jail for drug selling or murder and overcoming alcohol abuse. Boyhood is not only a movie but a statement of life's beauty of life's fast but invisible pace, of time's unfathomable but irresistible grip on our fate. It's an embodiment of what time is, how every single decision and mistake contained in one life can shape and affect you but not necessarily determine who you'll become. It's a wheel in constant motion which takes us, rolls us along, makes us go from young to old to then, eventually kill us.
@@moisemensah8233 It was an okay movie. The concept was good but the execution was lacking as it was definitely boring in a lot of parts. It was literally not as deep as you’re making it and never will be. To use words like “haunting,” “gutwrenching,” & “disheartening” is just too much lol
Manuel Orozco boyhood was a terrible movie and the performances were absolutely mediocre, not even Patricia Arquette could save the movie. The actual winners should’ve been Emma stone or Keira Knightley.
Just finished watching Boyhood tonight and made me cry tons of tears. One, because of her teacher character's inspiration and strength and two, because the film is a beautiful experience. Superb.
Patricia Arquette has great acting in Boyhood. In her Oscar acceptance speech for Boyhood (2014) she made remarks about gender inequality, which instantly went viral as the millions of people watching the telecast at home weighed in. Women's groups say that the only times they have seen more buzz around the topic of income disparity was when Lilly Ledbetter, the activist who sued Goodyear for paying her less than male counterparts, addressed the Democratic National Convention in 2008 and 2012, and when Barack Obama took up the mantle of equal pay in State of the Union address in 2015. Patricia Arquette is the first member of the Arquette family to receive an Oscar nomination, and also the first to win the prize.
It's moments like around the 1:36 mark that make me love Ethan Hawke even more. He didn't want Ellar to feel any rejection or humiliation and so he embraced him.
Patricia Arquette totally deserved this award, but I do wish Keira Knightley had won. As for Meryl Streep, come on people Meryl was outstanding in Into the Woods. She deserved this nomination, though it was not worthy for a win. Laura Dern and Emma Stone though both worthy of nominations, didn't have a chance. They both were the least worthy to win!
Well said, Patricia Arquette!! Thank you for using your Oscar stage as a platform to speak out about important issues dear to your heart. You're amazing!
Not if white women make 70 cents to a dollar men make. Not of women of color make 50 cents to a dollar a white man makes. Pay attention to the inequalities around you. Your experience is not universal.
Yeah just as easy for John legend and common to talk about black incarceration in their speech, on the same night, when they're clearly not incarcerated themselves and are also millionaires...I mean with comments like these, it's almost as if people care less or are less sensitive to issues affecting women then they are POC...oh wait....
***** Well it's not like she has to ever worry about wage equality, and she's preaching about it as if she's experiencing it now. It just doesn't make much sense when celebrities who are making thousands a week talk like they're unhappy with their pay. It seems a bit irrelevant for her to be talking about wage equality when her dress is probably worth more than someone's annual income.
+WeAreTheInsurgents Well maybe, I don't know, she's talking about all the other women in the US as well? And still, who gives a shit if she's rich? Does it make it less important that men in the industry still make alot more money than woman for the same job? It's still very unfair.
Even the actresses get paid less than male actors. yes they already get paid millions but they too get paid less. www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2014/12/17/stop-denying-the-gender-pay-gap-exists-even-jennifer-lawrence-was-shortchanged/
I love Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez's reaction to Equal Rights for Women in the United States Of America and Patrica Arquette deserved the oscar. So happy for her and Laura Dern got Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story and I was so glad for her.
3:11 I'm the only one thinking here how fake JLo truly is? She was clapping like everyone before but when she realized the camera on her she started to act like a maniac.Geez
Sunoh Kim You do realize that the wage gap based on sexism is a myth right? It has literally been debunked 30-35years ago by economists. In case of these actors and actresses it's a case of supply and demand. Men are not universally paid more.
I don't know who u think u are but u have no right to say that about J.Lo. She is a respected woman with good looks and she is talented. More talented that u will ever be love. 😠😠😠 just saying xxx
A simple Thank you for standing up for women' s equality! It amazes me how people forget how far we have come and how far we have yet to go. If you need to refresh your memory, just watch The Sufragette.
Oh shut up.In the west you bitches got every oppurinty to become what you want.Sick of feminist. This bitch at one of my friends work thought she should make more than my friend and she only worked there 2 years and he worked there 6 years.Tried to take her sob story to the local news but got her ass fired lol why don't you bitches go live in the middle east, africa or any other third world countries and see how bad women got it there dumb asses
My ranking: 5.kiera Knightley-The imitation game: she Brought the needed warmth in a rather one dimensional role but she just didn't impress me at all. Best scene: Joan visits Turing in the hospital 3.5/5 4.Meryl Streep- into the woods: Streep is the reason to watch into the woods she is incredibly entertaining and she steals scenes like crazy but I just didn't find her award worthy :/. Best scene: "stay with me" song 4/5 3.Patricia Arquette-boyhood:she was very good at portraying a mother that raises her kids while fighting for her dreams, she is also heartbreaking at portraying her loneliness and desperation of her children leaving her to collegeUnfortunately the story didn't really let her shine besides her final scene, I was left wanting more of Arquette. Best scene: Mason leaving to college. 4.5/5 2.Emma Stone-Birdman: or the unexpected virtue of ignorance: Emma Is amazing at portraying her Sam's disconnection with her father but at the same time showing a lot of love for him,her chemistry with Edward norton and Michael Keaton is outstanding, she really adds a lot to Birdman and deserves much more recognition for her role. Best scene : Sam confronts her father about being relevant. 4.5/5 1.Laura Dern-Wild: Astonishing performance by Dern, in just 10 mins of screen time Dern created a three dimensional human being out of a potentially one dimensional role, she is tragic, inspiring and lovable all at the same time, she showed that no matter what a mother goes through she will always be happy for her children, her face when she finds out about having cancer is devestating to watch. her final scene in the kitchen was (in my opinion) one of the best acted scenes of 2014, her monologue despite being short left me in tears And heavily inspired. Amazing work, deserves far more credit than she is given. Best scene:"happy people sing" 5/5
