I love her flexibility - she can sing Verdi, she can sing Rameau, old music, 19th century, anything - and everything sounds just great. She is a very extraordinary interpreter.
Sweet name, you who made my heart throb for the first time, you must always remind me the pleasures of love! My desire will fly to you on the wings of thought and my last breath will be yours, my beloved.
Speaking of Natalie Dessay, who is my all time favorite, I've always thought that Petibon has a better basic voice than Natalie, but Natalie has acting ability, comedic presence, and musical interpretation beyond anyone I can think of.
Oir a Patricia son vitaminas para el alma.Acabo de ver Rigoletto en Praga.Un horror de dirección artística.Muñeca hinchable, palo de selfie, caja de pizza en escena.....
This is not a good Caro nome, her voice is utterly nasal, breathy, throaty and weak, in order to sing the role of Gilda, one should have developed chest voice, strong middle and high tones, girare, true squillo which cannot be obtained by singing in the mask, but through open throat and low larynx. It is not possible to be expressive without developed voice.
Why do "Artistic Directors", costume designers, set designers, etc, always have to ruin and destroy the what was once the beautiful art form of opera, with their "innovative" CRAP?! The only thing left is the beautiful music and singing. I suspect that will eventually betaken away too! Singers should refuse to perform these disgusting productions!
There are PLENTY of opera productions using the "traditional" sets and costumes. It is important, however, to move things forward and incept new ideas into older art forms. People who want to keep things as they have always been are the people who are causing the death of opera. Opera was extremely flexible during the Baroque and Classical eras; to the point where people would take arias away and put new ones, wear whatever they had to wear and etc. We changed our approach to it after the Romantic Era. The calcification and crystallisation is precisely what is killing it.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn‘t. Have you seen the modern Magic Flute performances? Visually amazing. If I have to sit through the occasional „Rheingold on a dump“ performance, so be it. Can always close my eyes and concentrate on the music, right?
I completely agree. This production is only a distraction in my opinion. As for the Artistic Directors, I'm not sure if this is where the fault lies. I haven't see or heard too much of Patricia Petibon but I get the impression she gravitates towards the avant-guarde . I heard her sing , "Les oiseaux dans la charmille" The doll song from Tales of Hoffman and it was really terrible. She had a lot of trouble staying on key. I sincerely think her focus was on the dramatic and not the music.
Awful thin, squally, unsupported immature tone from weird Petibon. And let’s face it a rather stupid production. The overall is a big Yawn. Her talent is for those who know very little about opera. Those kinds of people that like commercials with opera in it.
'thin squally unsupported immature' comments from someone who knows little to nothing about vocal technique. If you can't say something positive say nothing.
Totally understandable to not like Petibon, even more in this repertoire which is clearly not what suits her best, but when you want to look more informed than the others, it would be better to adopt maybe a little more technical or professional vocabulary, don't you think so ? Because there isn't any true argument in your comment
