Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen are truly in a clas of their own as far as acting goes. I cannot think of anyone else who would do justice to characters these two have played in movies.

One thing I really like about Patrick Stewart that isn't common among a lot of big-name actors is that he really understands both his characters and the films they're in. A lot of great actors out there don't seem to be able to discuss their films with the same eloquence and excitement as him.

If you're blind maybe. He's covered in liver-spots. You can see gray hair all over him. His voice sounds like he's ill. His eyes are swollen. The wrinkles around his eyes are vastly more prominent than they were ever before.

I agree. I just watched all the X-Men movies for the first time with my brother. I'm a big fan of James McAvoy and he does a great job but Patrick Stewart is special in the role.

I love them both equally. Stewart is iconic in the role but McAvoy does a pretty fabulous job as well. I think what McAvoy does well is that he doesn't try to imitate Stewart. His interpretation feels fresh.

TheMrKlump Dan Stevens who played Legion, personally offered Patrick to appear in Legion and probably hasn't stopped asking him until he says yes. The only answer we all got from him was "Absolutely. 100%"

Andy Pham But that was before this happened, before Stewart announced that he was done. He only said that he'd be 100% interested in being on the show, not that his producers or that the show's director could work out a deal for him. Now that he says he's done, I'm holding very very little hope that he will reprise the role for a show that probably cannot even afford such a highly rated movie actor. I think Stewart knows this too, which is why he was so quick to change his mind. The chances of him appearing are very very slim. Maybe in a flashback montage or a clip of one of his earlier films somehow? That or James Macavoy (even though these not the right age) could play in a Legion flashback or something. Who knows, the show messes with timelines and time interpretation so much that he could just walk in like no problem and I wouldn't even bat an eye

I adore James McAvoy. First Class is my favorite of the X-Men franchise with Days of Future Past as a very close second. But I sometimes have a difficult time seeing him becoming the same Professor I first met with Logan years ago. To me, Patrick Stewart is always Professor X and occasionally Charles Xavier while James McAvoy is just Charles.

They are not meant to be the same and by Dark Phoenix James McAvoy has become a more true version of the character, he went through a lot of change and finally is almost like comic book Professor X, more likeable of course, Prof X in the comics is quite an asshole sometimes.
