Your kimono is beautiful. Next time, should you forget to cut on the fold, just make a small box pleat at the back neckline and this will allow the neck band to fit correctly and your garment will have a little more flow in the back......not a bad thing for a garment like this. As I've said before, I'm 70 and have been sewing for decades. You're doing very,, very well! Bravo!

Beautiful! I would write on the back pattern piece in red to remind me about cutting on the fold and eliminating the seam allowance so I don’t forget. I have the worst memory and it would save me the frustration. I leave notes everywhere 😂

Brilliant make! BronteMilly will look amazing in it, she can wear it as a cover up and an evening piece. A cami in the same material too would just be perfect for the evening cocktails. What is special is the fact that it was stitched with love and attention to detail. It really is lovely Rachel A unique piece indeed and no need to worry that another girl will be wearing the same piece. 👍😮🥰

You’ve done a lovely gift for your daughter 😍 Maybe put a sticky note on the pattern for next time? Especially if there’s a bit of time before you make it again. I think I’d of made a tiny box pleat to fit the neck band and called it a feature- LoL. I’m going to see if I can find this pattern too, thanks!

I have just bought this pattern and wanted to see if it could be made putting the back on the fold, I remembered you had made a video so searched for it. Not only did I find this but also a video of Portugal, Carveiro and that’s where I am going...lol. Thanks for your help I hope mine comes out as well as yours. 🤞xx

That turned out great! It actually reminds me of a 1920s cocoon coat a bit. I really like the shape.

My guess is the CB seam is for making the jacket out of 44" wide fabric. I agree with you for 60". I have a pattern like this, and I will eliminate CB seam.

The omission (# of pieces) on the neck facing is in all of them. I have several of these and they're all the same. I marked mine just to remind myself. 2 pieces, 1 interfacing (if using).

Hi great video just want to ask about the sleeves as I made this kimono and also did french seams, but the under arm was so bulky it didn’t sit right. Did you have this problem?

me too!! I am a beginner and this was my second garment (first one being a really easy Prima one) I could see I had gone wrong, but could not see HOW I went wrong if that makes any sense!! My problem was with the band......(groan)

I wish I had of 'known' of this pattern a few weeks ago when Spotlight were having their sale, but don't worry I will "sit tight" (their sale is 6 Butterick and Burda patterns for $25 AUD) if you know of any Butterick or Burda pattern that are great please let me know... Aldi Supermarkets have a "special buy" this weekend, which includes their own brand Sterling, overlocker for $199! No, I am not tempted, I have a 20+ year Baby Lock overlocker, that is as fiddly as to thread and that I have had a bit of a hard time getting replacement needles, I am trying to get the "Old Boy" to buy me the Juki MO-1000 that threads itself, wish me luck and love to Pluto......

I made this last year and do wear it frequently although i find it slips off my shoulders. I swore i would not make again because of the way the sleeves are sewn in. I found it difficult to get those meeting points under the arm to line up as per pattern instructions. Do you have any tips for this? You are right about cutting back on the fold I wondered this myself. I love how you french seamed everything. 👍

Hi Cindy, I'm just a viewer but I've made this and other kimonos a number of times. Aside from altering the shoulder width (along with the facings), which can be a pain, I use a little trick to keep these types of kimonos/shawls/wraps etc. from sliding back: I attach a decorative tassel down front on either side, right where the band meets the garment body. It creates enough weight to hold the garment in a more forward position thus keeping it from sliding off shoulders. It also adds a very cool element which my clients love.

Thank you for your pattern review!!! Question - When you shortened the kimono for your daughter did you also shorten the front band pieces? I am in the process of making View B and am having to shorten the kimono, because I am short. So, I have shortened pieces 5 and 6 the front and back pieces and just wanted to know if I also needed to shorten pattern piece 7 the front band? Thank you so much again for your review it was extremely helpful. Happy Sewing !!!

Terolyn Bell hi Terolyn, I didn’t shorten the pattern, sorry if I didn’t explain myself very clearly, I had lengthened the pattern originally for me so when my daughter wanted one I just shortened what I had lengthened back to the original pattern pieces if that makes sense? But yes if you’ve shortened the front you would need to shorten the front band piece too good luck ! Xxx

I realize you posted this video two years ago and may not be looking at comments any longer, but I will give it a try. I think I put the back band on correctly, but it is almost floppy even after a good pressing. Any thoughts? Thanks.
