Vivmom, dont stop being yourself. Listening and watching your videos is like sitting and chatting with a sewing buddy. You have given me the the nerve to start sewing again and that is changing my days to ones I so look forward to. I havent sewn anything that looks all that good but I know to keep sewing and my makes will eventually get better.You are so inspiring to me and many others. Thanks so much.

Blessings on you, Margaret. I love that our sewing community is still pretty wholesome in this day & age, and I want to keep it that way. There’s just no place for tearing each other down (though it happens, and I’ve been on the receiving end) when what we do is an expression of ourselves and just a small part of the population sews. I just love meeting all the wonderful people I’ve met, like you, who appreciate this magnificent craft and want to be part of the encouraging and uplifting! Sorry if I’m rambling. Thanks for writing.

You did good, and you didn't talk too much for me. As a matter of fact, I backed the video up a couple times to write down pattern information. Sewing and crafting is the love of my life. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You're an excellent seamstress, you speak well, you're well versed on your craft. When you're good, there will always be Haters out there to burst your bubble. Keep doing what you do.

What a relief to know how you choose a pattern size. I am 80 and so sick and tired of trying and failing at the full bus adjustment. Therefore, I have not shown for myself in years and have been watching you for several years and I am just now deciding to sew again for myself. I loved how you said you would just move onto the next pattern and that would be more suitable. I would just struggle and struggle. As my grandmother used to say "old too soon and smart too late". Now I am just going to move along to a suitable pattern.😂
@vivmomsews4962
@vivmomsews4962 6 месяцев назад
Thanks Rileygirl! My feeling with patterns is sort of like the old literary line (or maybe it’s from a movie) “There’s a million stories in the naked city.” I feel like there are at least a million patterns out there, and if one isn’t going to fit around my bust - I’m out. The most I’ll do is cut a little extra under the arm seam and then back in again before the waist. A poor man’s FBA, but it works. I admire people who devote a lot of time and effort to full bust adjustments, but I’ll never be one. I know my limits and I’m far too impatient, lol. All the best as you return to sewing! My advice (unasked for): don’t put pressure on yourself. Choose forgiving styles, like an easy pullover caftan you can slip into for the evening. Use fabric you adore. Wear the heck out of it. To me, that’s satisfying sewing!😄

So glad to hear you talk about finding the right size. I use the finished garment measurement as well for both length and width, because I already know what looks best. I tried to watch a video on full-bust adjustment, but it was too complicated. It's much easier to just use a pattern that fits rather than to try to adjust a pattern to fit. Saves a lot of time and frustration in the long run.

Viv, there's an easy fix for your problem of your machine wanting to "eat" certain fabrics. Take a four to five inch square of cotton or poly fabric and fold it into. Start to sew on it leaving a short threadtale. When ending your seam,cut off the cloth patch then sew onto it again at the end of your seamand you will be ready to sew again. This never fails. And by the way , talk on! I watch all of your videos and some even twice! Linda Greene, NC

Oh, thanks so much Sarah! I understand all about leaving sewing, as I did it myself. For years! Then in late 2016 I sewed a Vogue dress. I was irritated that the instructions were wrong and the lining ended up wrong side out. Sure it was only on the inside of the dress, but still! From then on, I sewed a bit more and then a bit more and then wham! I was into it, loving it, learning a bunch of new tricks and fit techniques and here I am. I’m not looking back! Welcome back to sewing, it’s greeting you with open arms!💕

Hi Wendy I am also in Australia. Sometimes Spotlight has patterns on sale - 5 for $20 (selected brands) - right now, but you might already know about that. What about the price of cotton jersey here! I wish we could buy as the US, I envy them!

Yes they are out there but they aren't you! (Hmm getting a bit frustrated with comments demanding this or that, can you tell? Thought not. 😁 ) Spotlight had a pattern sale a few weeks ago. Two for $12! I was late to the 'party' so my choices were limited to going through the drawers for sizes I wanted. Pity I don't need dress up costumes, lots of those! Perhaps I could go as a bolt of fabric should the need arise. (Guess what I have a few metres of? Yup fabric. Great guess) So chin up, shoulders back, keep on smiling fabulously and do what you love. Viv, there are no rules about how long a good RU-vid video should be! A ten minute video can be boring, an hour long video can be great. It depends on the person and the content. Take no notice of these stupid comments! Keep on keeping on! 😊 Btw I felt you about your neck, it's the single aspect of ageing that upsets me the most... 😢 I can live with everything else. Hey ho, I'm not going under the knife, that's for sure, so I'll just have to get over it and crack on with enjoying life 😁

I also select pattern size based on finished bust measurement. I learned that quickly. I made my first top based what they suggested and the top was terribly big. Thanks for your pattern review and sharing your fabric haul. Wish you and joy could have a daily video for us, but then you would not have time to sew or shop. 🙂. Take care.

Very nice choices Viv!! Love your information on sizing and finished sizes. Most important to know. I have made many mistakes in my early sewing years by not understanding that..lol. Viv, your very beautiful period. Inside and out! Please know that you don't need to change a thing! You are loved for who you are by all your subscribers. Happy sewing👕👖👗👚✌ 💜 🌞

I FINISHED A DRESS TODAY! It's only been laying there for a week, cut out and ready to sew. I didn't want to do interfacing, since it's a sleeveless, v neck cotton. So I was at a standstill. Know what I did to the neck and arms? I cover stitched it! Serged the sides and DONE! Thanks for continuing to inspire me Viv. You should try the Sweet Tee pattern from patterns for Pirates. Fits so nice, and such an easy sew.

Hi. I know this is an older video, but I would like to say: It is free to watch you. If someone doesn't like anything they see, just stop watching. They should try making video after video. Watching you is like hanging out and having coffee while chit chatting about sewing. Thank you for your videos and your neck is fine, no clips needed. Great information on the sizing of S8926. I would have cut the much smaller size on this pattern and a few others like it. Maybe you don't talk too much, maybe they don't listen enough. You give great tips and sewing knowledge I could not afford if they even had garment class where I live. Have a nice day and thank you again for all you do.

Aww Rose, this is such a nice message to find, thank you! I get complaints about everything under the sun - some are downright comical - but the kindness FAR outweighs the grumps. I think it’s human nature to seize on the negativity (at least, it’s a bad habit of mine.) Messages like yours give me such a lift!💕

Your doing great 👍 If you were a mute they would comment on that to! 😂😂 Love sewing pattern 8556 and you taught me how different materials change look of pattern. So couple shirts in and don’t Look same. 👍 fun sewing 🧵

I bought that tan twill too, I am planning to make some sort of jacket (depending on how it washes up). It looks like it would make a nice transitional jacket lined with flannel for spring/fall. I work with kids so it needs to be sturdy. Hopefully it is suitable for that purpose. I also bought enough to make some slacks ( 8 yrds...enough for slacks for me, a pair for my son and a lone tree jacket). I almost grabbed that spoon knit.... so much fun! Reminds me of the saying “born with a silver spoon in your mouth”...

Hey, funny lady....I have a membership with Fabric Mart. They still display their fabrics with the stool. You are correct about how it helps you view the draping on the fabric. That’s how I make my choices of which fabric to buy. Wonderful video as always 😂I love the face and neck lift.

I am glad to find your channel. Your enthusiasm is infectious, and I'm going to settle in and learn to sew after my BIG move next week, so watching and listening to you makes me SO excited while I'm waiting! People who don't like how you do your videos don't have to watch... and alternatively, while they seem to feel entitled to voice their opinions, you don't have to pay them any mind.

I look forward to all your resources and announcements of sales. When you gave heads up on Butterick patterns I visited Joanne’s for the sale and left the store feeling happy. Good advice on how you pick a size to sew. I just finished some shorts for my husband. I cut the pieces according to what the envelope said for his size. Then proceeded to remove about 3" of fabric, etc., because the pattern pieces were way too big. Suffice it to say, I will think twice before sewing that again. Come back soon!

Hi Vivmom Anna-Marie here. Please don't pay attention to the nay-sayer and don't give them the attention. They are not important. We all love your videos. I went to Hobby- Lobby are bought the same patterns you did. I'm in the middle of making garments now. I can't wait to see what you come up with. Have fun and keep moving forward with your sewing.
