That's the epitome of "Grand Entrance"! That's also a staple of hers where you hear her before you see her. Look at the tributes to Smokey Robinson and Barry White. Those are just a couple of televised performances, but she still does that to this day at her concerts.
Thumbs up if you are still listening to this song, cause Aretha is the Queen of Soul and Pattie is the Goddess of soul ,they voice is still on fire .RIP
I never get tired of listening to Patti's music because she never sings a song exactly the same. There is always some variation so you are usually pleasantly suprised
They broke the mold when Patti came along. She had it all and still does. No one wanted to follow her act on stage. She was the closer. Range, Power, stage presence, Graciousness and Greatness. WOW WOW WOW.
In the mid 1990s in Buffalo, I saw her live. Despite a massive snowstorm that shut down the entire city,s he had it announced that she would be at the downtown theater at 8pm--on TV and radio. We get there, about 200 of us who lived close enough within the city to take the tram/train and when she came on stage an saw us in our number ticketed seats she made us all come forward, from balconies and back rows to fill up the first 10 rows in the 1000 seater auditorium and gave an intimate concert of amazing ability to us. She took off her makeup, took pictures, gave away her shoes and then because she knew we'd made an effort---she put down the mic and showed us what singing was---she did this 8 octave ladder thing where she would sing a note and then graduate it up and down and then to another level but couldn't use the mic with it because it would hurt our ears. I have never seen anything from a human being as remarkable. (The closest is when I saw Prince do this on a guitar---between 20-30 different songs switching on notes to differing songs but the same note within each song.) Her musicality, timing, pitch control and just fun and play (like Prince's) has made her something that I as a teenager to now an adult could deeply appreciate.
Wow! What an amazing story...make sure you pass that on to your kids and grand kids. I would have just cried to be in her presence. Thank you for sharing.
Love this lady's voice She makes you believe and feel so deeply that whatever your pain is or was, listen to her, let her soothe your troubled mind..You've got the gift Patti and thank you for sharing it .......❤❤❤❤❤
DR. PATTI LABELLE IS ONE OF THE BEST DIVAS IN LIFE'S HISTORY OF VOCALS, TALENT, PERFORMANCE STYLES & IMPROMPTUS!!!! THE WORLD LOVE'S U DR PATTI LABELLE!!!
My wife and I would listen in wonderment at Patti's beautiful voice as we lay in bed in the late evenings, sadly my beautiful darling wife passed away à few days ago and I'm devastated, now I listen to Patti alone, which makes her voice touch my soul even more.
This woman is over 60 and still got it. I don't know of any other entertainer her age that looks like I want to when I grow up (lol) and can sing like that! Go head on Ms. Patti!!
That little gesture of her throwing away the microphone stand, or her shoes, whatever it may be, is very powerful. She's a performer and her voice is nothing but power and emotion. Love Patti.
I had the unbelievable opportunity to chauffer Patti when she was giving a concert in Rochester, NY. She was very tired from being on the road for I have no idea how many days. Still she was a woman of grace and class. When we arrived at the concert hall, she was helped up to the stage door. After going inside and she was introduced, she was suddenly filled more energy than I have ever witnessed before. She delivered an amazing concert for over an hour and left everyone wanting more. When the show was over, she was helped back into the limousine and nearly collapsed, having given all that she had to those who came to hear her sing. I drove many celebrities and bands around in that limousine. Not one of them had the abilities of Patti Labelle. Though I did not have the opportunity to be introduced to her, I will forever remember her ability to give all of her heart and soul to her audience. I am in awe and have drawn upon that night when I have felt that there was nothing left inside me and no way to go on. Thank you Patti for all you gave us that night.
There are so many artist in this world and they all have a job to do because being blessed is not always an easy task. Everyone thinks of you as perfect or better than or not better than. When one is on the receiving side of the gift one should just enjoy the moment and count themselves blessed to be able to hear such greatness. Patti is Patti and that is good enough for me.
You know you're the ultimate diva when you can carry all those flowers and gifts in one arm and still blow while you're exiting the stage...LONG LIVE THE QUEEN ! ***********************
She once came for a 1 night only here in South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦... My jaw bone became permanently gobsmacked during that night.. A performer of note.. MS Labelle takes her craft seriously ❤❤❤
Thank you my wonderful SON. It was you who introduced me outside of the Wizard of Oz Dorothy singing this song. Patty Labelle phenomenal tremendous all the time. Thank you Madame LaBell.
I was in love with Aretha years before I had any clue who Patti was. But , MY GOD! How can there be any comparison? Aretha has had her share of hits and special moments, but EVERY time Patti opens her mouth, it's magical.
I have loved me some PATTI LABELLE over 40 years! She's my favorite! I love this medley. I pray God grants her many, many, MANY more years of singing!!!!
It's not often this 55 year old man while viewing a performance is moved to tears. The depth of love flowing onstage from Patti's heart projected out into the world is immeasurable. Two hearts instantly recognize that which mirrors itself. Thank you Ms. LaBelle! I LOVE YOU TOO!!!
Dammit!! It's still happening!!! I hear Patti sing this song and I still break down in tears!!! Been listening to this too long for all that emotion!! Do you agree?
I RECALL SINGING THIS SONG TO MY GRAND DAUGHTER KAITLIN A. JAMES SHE WAS 1YEAR OLD...SHES IS 5 NOW PEOPLE IN THE CLINIC WOULD STOP TO HEAR ME SING TO HER
I remember taking my wife out to Radio City to see sister Pattie perform. It was during a hard time for her because found that she had a serious illness that is irreversable. When Pattie sang this song,..It made her evening. She talked about it for years. She is gone now to the world over the rainbow. When I see Sister Pattie sing Over The Rainbow, I can feel my wife sitting next to me cheering and us dancing to the music. Thank You My Sister****From Both of us. Peace**
OMG, what a powerful story that’s true and real. Remember to give God the praise for the precious time you had with her. God will help you find peace in knowing him and your wonderful legacy of love for your wife!!! God Bless!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
