She is still the greatest of them all. No-one else comes close to her: her lyricism, her energy, her intensity, her performing skills, her creativity, her sense of inspiration, her almost shamanistic contact with whatever it is that drives her, her unchaningness, and, below all that, her personality, her humility, her writing skills, her insight, her defiance of age, her quite unusual musical sense, her adaptibility in both life and music, her transmission of feeling and some other dimension, her unsurpassed connection with her audiences, her mixture of femininity and a certain masculine assertiveness - not one other singer in popular music has all those qualities.
Well said. And at almost 70 she don't sell nostalgia. She's still the "Horses" Patti Smith, here and now. No fake, no vapid routines. All those old rock bands that play at summer festivals may watch her and meditate.
I LOVE that around 6:30, she tried to start the verse but the crowd was too loud. So she communicated with them. Smiled, acknowledged, then asked with her hands to give her some sound space, and everyone understood. Beautiful.
I saw Patti Smith perform Horses straight through for the 40th anniversary. It was at the Wiltern in Los Angeles in early 2016 and Apple TV filmed it. It was the most transportive concert I’ve ever attended. I feel like I joined the Church of Patti Smith that night.
This girl at any age has been spectacular. Now even more so at 70. RAW, Savage Rock n roll. No lip syncing,no pre Fab dance routine. No holding back on the vocals who else can say their performance didn't come out of a can?
I'm just now finishing Just Kids. I have so much respect for the commitment to her art/writing . Turns out she's in town tomorrow night. I think I gotta go . And while I'm reading this my husband spies Michale Stippe in a rock doc with Patti and discussing his admiration for her art. I am SO late to this party.
I saw her in 1978 in Brussel. Amazing concert, but.....after the concert, when the audience was outside the area, she's came back and play 30 minutes extra for 100 people...Unbelievable !
EXACTLY.......VOTRE TEMOIGNANGE est D'UNE JUSTESSE REMARQUABLE.....il n'y a rien à AJOUTER, MERCI d'avoir EXPRIMER DE MANIERE ELOQUENTE & PROFONDE CE QUE JE RESSENS également......
saw her open for Dylan in 95 in Philly.Amazing!I saw her at the Philadelphia Free Library Book Fest giving a free show that was great.I was disappointed those times she didn't do Horses
This is just so pure. I've been carried through the day on these wings of possibility and strength -- what a beautiful, powerful person -- goddess, elder, sprite, punk, poet, and her voice is so strong! And her relationship with the audience! wow! thanks for posting this!
