My type of friday WARNING: Always unplug whatever your working on! There could be parts of it that are live when the unit is plugged in even if it's off. And yes I realize I spelled "guide" wrong lol at 11:27
The 1990's lasko/galaxy box fan motors have a similar design. only the cable comes out the back. it makes things hard to clean the motor all the way out. i can move the motor shell up the cable to clean it..but you risk tearing up the windings..and thats how iv screwed up a few of those motors. LOL
***** I have also killed a fan by hurting the windings. it doesn't take much. It really sucks when a person is trying to make something better, but instead makes it worse lol
WachdByBigBrother Haha that's always how it is eh? I know I run into that problem lots on youtube, I find a video that I think will help me out,but then they skip the part that I was hoping to see lol all I did was unscrew about 8 tiny little screws, they are a major pain to work with lol
I'm sorry I never got to your comment. if you are still wondering , no you dont have to oil the bearings unless they need it. some go for many years before needing oiling
Very helpful video! I will have my husband watch it so he can try to fix our Patton HV fan which is making loud noise now,. I saw some other videos on youtube so I know it has an oiling hole in the back. Is it possible that I put too much oil?
Glad it helped you! and technically no you cant put too much oil in these kind of bearings (sleeve bearings). The only thing that would happen is you'd get excess oil dripping all over. If your fan is starting to make noises then you should disassemble the fan like seen in the video because just pouring oil in the oil holes just soaks the wick around the bearing, which would eventually soak into the bearing but would take alot longer. whooo that is byfar the biggest comment I have ever made lol
Hobbycentral You'd never believe it. I called Patton Fan and the woman was telling me that Patton doesn't recommend oiling my U2-1887 fan. Yes, it has an oiling hole but they don't recommend it. What the heck? Then they sent me a manual for the U21403, U2-1803 and U2-2003 which are similar which says not to oil those fans. When I mentioned that mine had an oiling port and the manual wasn't for my specific fan, she said not to oil and they don't have a manual for my fan anymore. No common sense these days....sigh.
+Hobbycentral true and that's how it is today with all these china fans of today they will always tell you not to service the fans because as you said they want your money and they want it to die so you buy another and watch it die and keep wasting money on them lol but I used 3 in 1 in the blue can and also zoom spout for all my fans except my vornados 673 and 679 and also the air king 9214 which are all ball bearing fans .. good point hobbycentral
i have two massy table fans from taiwan i have to oil them in the front time to time with 3 in one oil when i clean them out every year the one spent a few months in the outside weather since when i was living with my parents my mom was tired of screech it made when it started up and ran so she bought me a new one to replace it though it sat outside against a shed on our property and i used it when i hung out in the shed and then i kept it since it still worked after being snowed on and rained on an etc and figured out 3 in one works for that problem
I have a much older patton fan its the same as the one your working on in the video though its from the 1960s or 1970s and the last time i used it started smoking an i unplugged it an never plugged it back in as in fear it could spark a fire which i do not need that to happen i do not know what would be needed to fix it it has blue blades and a blue engine cover
Can you help me with the wiring on the same fan? I was having a problem with the wires wire that came out of the little switch box....and I had to take it apart, and I rewired it...But now it’s not working at all. It was working fine today, until that wire came out. Now.l.i May have messed up...bc I noticed that the tips of the wires had some hard silver thing on their ends that went into the “z” shaped thing inside of the switch box...and two of those fell off....idk if they are needed or are just put on the ends for convenience....please help 😔
I'm sorry I never got to your question in time. My old faithfull computer finally kicked the bucket and I haven't been able to check my account for about 4 months.
0:33 anybody know the name or size of the type of screw that's used to keep the blades connected to the motor? I was taking mines off to clean the blades off until I lost it somewhere and can't find it. Is that screw easy to find in hardware stores?
haha, sounds like something i would do. I'm sure you could find one at a hardware store, just get a few with different thread pitches and see which one works
@Hobbycentral Thanks for the tip but I might just be better off buying a whole new fan altogether. The reason why I had taken off the blades was cause I was planning to try to get the motor out and open it up to clean the insides of it and the rest of the shaft. Though I did try, those screws in the back with the nuts attached were a bitch to take off. Some of the crosses got messed up so they are less likely to come off now.I had just bought two different packs of screws in the 99c store. One had all these different screws sizes and the other was one type of screw that was thicker but longer than the original screw. Neither of those screws worked. I might see if I can get a new one. The fan wasn't too expensive.
Awesome video thanks for making this video for bro two years ago lol I still watch it and I still have my climate keeper fan I also now have two air kings hv fans 9212 and 9214 check it out on my page
