I adored Patty Duke, and of course Judy Garland. I saw Patty Duke in a small convenience store in Burbank many years ago. She was in shorts and barefoot. I think she was at the counter getting cigarettes. I wanted to go up and say Hi, but I respected her space. I wasn't 100% sure it was her. When she went to her car I noticed her personalized plates said Patty. I had missed my opportunity to say hello to one of my favorite actresses. May she R.I.P.

Judy Garland was one of the most accessible stars to her fans. She was down to earth and she respected and loved her fans and it showed each time she performed. Even now on youtube, whenever she sang she is the only singer that can sing to a packed house & millions of ppl on tv, and still make each person that she was singing to just them. Valley of the Dolls wasnt the right vehicle for Judy. Her fans couldnt see her being humilated by getting her wig torn off even if tho it was just a movie.

How great it would've been to hear her deliver those bitchy lines at the beginning. Ms. Lawson you haven't signed the contracts - - AND I DON'T INTEND TO!!!! Only hit to come out of a Helen Lawson is Helen Lawson - and that's MEEEEEEEEE, baby REMEMBER?!? 😆

@farrellmcnulty909 Miss Susan Hayward agreed to do the movie ONLY if Miss Garland was paid her full salary. " She's a star. You don't do that to a star" ( Susie also demanded- and got- " twice what you contracted to pay Garland ")

There is no doubt that Judy is more talented (than just about everyone) but Patty Duke is very talented in her own right. I don't think she is telling a bad story about Judy Garland at all. In fact, I think it's a rather heartwarming story.

@@rosemma34 There is a RU-vid mini documentary about Valley where Patty says she finally had had enough from that director and that she decided to clear the air/make her feelings about him known directly to his face. He (according to Patty) said he PURPOSELY treated her the way he did as a device to keep up the level of tension and drama within her and with her co-stars. Patty then says, finding that out DID NOT make the situation better, but instead she was more determined than ever to kill him. You can't help wondering if the director thought she didn't deserve the role, that maybe he saw her as just a passable tv actress? And several actresses were considered BEFORE Judy was hired to play Helen Lawson, Bette Davis wanted that role, too. Unfortunately, Judy needed a comeback desperately and saw this as the role that would do it. Judy was only 44 at the time she started Valley, and her career was " bottoming out ".

Judy Garland did so much & still, to this day does so much for the World of Show Business because she constantly reminds us what real talent is. She accomplished so much in those short 47 yrs than anyone ever has. Yet people keep bring up her personal problems. Anyone who's ever seen a clip of Judy in front of a camera will see a STAR that's just amazing! When she refused to work its because she was ill & couldnt give us the Judy we all were used to seeing & hearing. She was worked to death.

Patty was great! She was a tremendous talent. She was also a wonderful human being. She helped people come out of the closet with manic depression. She inherited this illness. It took a terrible toll on her relationships and her life. She was one of the lucky ones. Lithium was the miracle drug for her. It isn't always. Patty kept working and turned in many, many wonderful performances. Patty was brave enough to speak out, write books, and advocate for the mentally and emotionally ill. I am glad she found stability and happiness in a long term relationship. She was very courageous. She was also very gallant and tried to mend fences or atone for prior bad behaviors whenever she could. She was a class act all the way.

She is the reason that V.O.T.D's is my favorite movie. She was a stellar lady as well as an actress. Regarding the suit anecdote: I saw an interview on another video with a wardrobe person who worked with Judy and said it was hard to find clothes that fit her in stores because of her height and figure. So the wardrobe crew on her movies would often make pieces she could wear in daily life to help her out.

People forget that Judy and Anna were / are very similar. I often wonder if Judy did not suffer with bipolar disorder (manic depression) herself. Anna is not bad-mouthing Judy as much as reliving the memories of that time. You can feel how much respect she had for that woman. Rude comments are unnecessary, ignorant & revolting.

Some directors condone alcohol and drug use on the set, and its a well know fact and secret that there are drug dealers lurking about selling their wares to celebrities and anybody else, and yet when it gets out of hand, the powers that be throw the actors/actresses/crew out on their butts and then refuse to even acknowledge their existences anymore.

Loved the line about Robson having dinner with the Rosses! Years ago I read Patty's book "Just Call Me Anna", and I remember her describing this Robson asshole's treatment of the "Valley of the Dolls" cast, particularly his stupid nitpicking of Sharon Tate's every move, the frustration of which would reduce her to tears. And the way he would make Garland languish all day in her dressing room--how incredibly obtuse.

I think it would be played/acted the way she did if the movie was made in 2023.

What 2 incredible talents both Patty Duke and Judy Garland were. Patty was fortunately able to conquer many of her demons - Judy was not. Judy was abused by Hollywood starting at a very young age and Patty was taken advantage of by the horrible Rosses. But they gave so much to the world because of their talents.

@@liamkilburn2456 Just curious. Of the hundreds of random women you ask "How are you doing?" how many have given you the time of day, much less hooked up with you?

Marc, you are the best...please continue to showcase stars here with small clips such as these. We attend all of your shows and have enjoyed each one. This was a great story Patty was able to share. Unfortunately, both my partner & I felt Bruce often hogged the conversation & we likely missed out on more stories from Patty due to time constraints. In defense of Bruce, he isn't the only interviewer guilty of this.....just let the stars reminisce & only interrupt to help jog their memory.

I see that Anna has recovered from her "you should not speak ill of the dead" phase and is expressing her true feelings, which I feel is very healthy.

Patty Duke was a wonderful actress and I have always loved watching her in films and tv. I love 'the movie industry so I enjoy these 'backstage' interviews revealing the' real life' characters of the actors and actresses especially of classic Hollywood. Patty was such a charming funny person herself a survivor.

Patty Duke looks fabulous as herself. And remains one of the most talented people in the world. I adore her and just wish I could have been there for this evening of Valley of the Dolls.
