He’s currently 79 years old, I’m thinking he was about 18 here. This was I believe his second big hit, Hey Paula What’s his first. He’s nine years older than me. This music is what I grew up. Went on to do some very great things, writing for other performers as well as doing his own thing. He wrote the song “My way” which Frank Sinatra made big. Paul Anka is also from Canada.
He was a teenager when he wrote a lot of his songs...Way before the Righteous Bros...Late 50's..Righteous Bros are mid 60's.. I LOVED this song so much when i was a kid. Beautiful!!!
This young fella (born in 1941) from Ottawa, Ontario, first major hit was at the age of 16, with *"Diana",* and he never looked back Writing hit after hit, for himself, and others.(By the time he was 18, he had five, top 5, hits himself) He's probably written many songs you've enjoyed, maybe even the likes of; *"Lonely Boy",* *"Too Good To Be True(I Love You Baby)",* *"Put Your Head On My Shoulder"* (of course...lol), *"Having My Baby",* up to ones like; *"My Way"* for Frank Sinatra, a *Puppy Love"* Donny Osmond, He even wrote the theme song for Johnny Carson and *The Tonight Show* Add to that all the *co-writing* credits with his name, with the likes of *David Foster,* *"Michael McDonald",* and *"Michael Jackson",* just to name a few. I look forward to you checking out more tunes from this singer/songwriter/actor....legend. :-)
Paul Anka was 16 or 17 here, he also wrote songs for the likes of Tom Jones "She's a lady", Frank Sinatra "My Way", Connie Francis, Annette Funicello, co wrote with Michael Jackson "This is it", The Johnny Carson Show theme and so many more, and had so many hits himself. Such a talented singer/ songwriter 😊
I came across this music when I was in middle school back in the early '90s. I love this music. I even get some of my friends to at least listen to it then.
Jamal, holy sh*t I was literally just listening to this song with my fam while eating some home made hamburguers, and now we are watching you react to it while drinking some beer, best thing evaaaaaah
make it an every Friday fam night kinda thing...money is tight for some, so what! KFC ain't always got to be big bucket ass of$65 or a round tables$30 pizza included tip, some good. homemade🤩 chicken fried steak ,green beens, and mashed potatoes oh! with brown gravy.
Michael Stapp sounds like your hungry at the end hahahahaha, but couldn’t agree moooooreeeee, nothing can beat the exclusiveness of a homemade meal, especially with your fam❤️❤️❤️
yup that's the goods! or crockpot a stew using whole curnel corn, salary, a beaf roast chopped to desired . size stewed tomatoes, and ((important) mc cormicks beef stew packets🤩 yea, yeah fam eats for a week! on it...
@@misterminutes4504 who cares about sounding like a boomer lol. My dad and mom are baby boomers and they are awesome so I don’t mind sounding like them sometimes haha
Love Paul Anka. He's not from my time; I wasn't even born; but, my parents listened to him. He's a Canadian-Americn singer and songwriter. React to "Lonely Boy" and "Diana".
You'll love this video of him being interviewed by the Professor of Rock about writing that song, German Alfaro. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T7KFrqA1FSM.html
This was more, reserved time. Public songs, words and actions were G rated. It was a time when adults realized concepts presented to children had a profound affect on them. The right subject matter for the maturity level. This was a time that kids were really allowed to be kids, and they were given training, expectations and accountability.
Emphasis of words n songs again it's anka Mathis nat Cole little Anthony n harder as u go on u have to hear it's being emphasis as u go along hearing as Snipes said n white men can't jump u don't listen to Jimi u hear Jimi hearing n listening closely is what made Michael Jackson so great amongst his dancing n voice Diana of anka is good but shoulder is heads up by far n that goes way high above the rest only Paul know the truth of song
Ottawa's own!! He wrote so many great songs!! For himself and other artists! Including Buddy Holly, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. He still puts on an INCREDIBLE show!! Don't miss him!!!
Jamel, you are hilarious ! Swayin' to & frow ... groovin' with the oldies ! Fun video to watch. Anka was more in the 50's & the Righteous Brothers were in the 60's. The world was a more simple, beautiful & safe place back then. I miss it. Peace & blessings to you & your family, Jamel.
Paul Anka. One of the best of the all time crooners...This clip is from around 1959. When this tune was released, Anka was barely 18 years old. He wrote all of his own songs as well. He even wrote The Tonight Show's theme song for Johnny Carson...Another crooner you should look into is Bobby Darin...
This was like 6 or 7 years before the Righteous Brothers and you've probably heard it on lots of movies set in the the late 50's/ early 60's. I think Paul Anka wrote "My Way" by Frank Sinatra.
Felt a tear rise up in my eye when I saw this title! It always makes me think of my dad who passed in September 2013. Other favorites of his I always associate with him: Blueberry Hill (Fats Domino), The Duke of Earl (Gene Chandler), Tears on my Pillow (Little Anthony), and They Try to Tell Us We're Too Young (Nat King Cole). Blessings to you, my friend!
Paul Anka was 19 when this was done.. he wrote it when he was 18. He’s still alive and still sings. The song has been in several movies, including Grease.
That was 61 years ago! Know how I know? I was born 61 years ago! Holy crap! :) Back when songs were about the singing and everything else just backed the singer up.
Brother I love that you are dipping into the fifties! My six-year-old 14 year old and 15 year old love this song. Especially when he says "BaaAAABYyyy"!
@@timvine6441 You're correct. The melody is credited to a French composer named Claude François. However, speaking of melodies, Paul Anka was the composer of Johnny Carson's Tonight Show theme. Johnny himself is listed as co-composer, but all he contributed was that brief drum riff that opens the theme. It's said that that every time the theme was played on air, Anka received 200 dollars. That adds up to a lot of meatballs.
He put out a record a few years back called 'Rock Swings' where he sings covers of some rock tunes. You should try the 'Black Hole Sun' cover he does from Soundgarden. I always thought a swing breakdown in the middle of the rock version would be awesome.
I'm so happy to see that you're willing to go back this far for some new sounds. I always held off asking for one of my favorites because I thought it might be too old lol. Please do some Neil Diamond at some point. Shiloh, Sweet Caroline, Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Shows, America...he has such a large catalog and any of his would be appreciated.
I asked for Neil too! Specifically Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show because I am pretty sure Jamal will get a huge kick out of it. I thought then he could jump in the rabbit hole with Cracklin Rosie, Love On The Rock, Coming to America, and oh so many more (as you know lol)
I was on a cruise a few years ago and went to the Karaoke bar on board. There was a young man around 14 or so who sounded just like Frank Sinatra. He sang with such confidence.
This song came out in 1959. Only 20 years before something completely different... like Pink Floyd's The Wall. Music evolves so fast in such a short timeframe comparatively.
Oh wow. Paul Anka and Neil Sedaka were on every variety show when I was growing up in the 70’s. My parents loved this song and this style of music from the 50’s, so I’m familiar with much of the music of that era. (My folks always had music playing from morning until night. If we were home, there was music.) Later in the 70’s, Paul Anka had a big hit with “Havin’ My Baby.”
omg times of my life reminds of joe DiMaggio is song about him?if so nicest tune maybe gives shoulders a run4its $but amt of chills u get off2 songs tells that in itself anka n Andy Williams did same song I think nice song 👌 perfectionist on those2song
Not only Canada's first teen idol but a prolific song writer. He wrote the theme song to the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, the lyrics to Frank Sinatra's "I Did It My Way', and songs for Tom Jones and Johnny Mathis.
I've been racking my brain, didn't he also write a song for that movie? Or maybe the theme song? That's going way back. Somebody correct me, or help me out here!
This man is now close to eighty and has writen more hit sngs than I can count. If you have ever seen the Kodak commercials, that song is his. He was born in 1941
Paul Anka at one time was the boyfriend of Annette Funicello this song was for her why do i know because im 73 love and peace.he was 19 born 1941 Canada.
Same age here brother (and yes, Annette & Karen were my favs)...growing up in Flint and we've heard so many different genres but this was in our more happy and innocent times like this song represents.
Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka, Hary Belafonte.... and others! They were a highlight in their era. You should listen to Jamaica Farewell (Belafonte) and Laughter in the Rain (Sedaka) Greetings from Brazil!!
The year of my birth I had this through today. You made me spit water when you said the duration of the song and , ‘it must be good,’ yep 😂. Righteous Brothers were 60’s
He wrote this song too Jamal! I listened to about 25 podcasts tonight and you are the best! He was maybe 20-22....wrote most his songs....he was a little before righteous bros....I'm Tony.....73 years young...thanks for playing my music...happy new year!

🔊 "Having my Baby" was my favorite. Big hit Nobody's reacted to. Reminds me of my newly wed wife telling me she's carrying our first, our daughter. Probably his last big hit. 👍
Jamel: You should check out another song of his titled "Diana". It was a true to life story about Paul Anka, who was 14 at the time, and his crush: a "much older" girl (she was 19) who was his younger brother's babysitter. It's a good song.
This guy is so talented...I had the opportunity to see him in 1969 in a lounge show with the Temptations. He can play a guitar, piano, trumpet and drums let he sings and write songs. They put on an awesome show. I love the Temptations. I thought I died and went to heaven. I'm 73 yrs and I think he's 79 or 80 and still performing. ❤❤❤
He recorded his first song when he was 14. He got really big in 1958 and on. The Righteous Brothers didn't start recording until 1962. He has 6 daughters. No sons.
This man had the voice and he had many hits Paul in his later years still could make the girl swoon may Aunt loved his songs me and her would sing this and some of the great others crooners that had the big band behind them.
