Such lovely lovely words.Has made me weep. Takes me back to when I found my beloved dog Carla at the bottom of the stairs. Its many many years ago now. Even my 2 cat who died within 2 years of each other. But at least all 3 died at home and I didn't have to have them put down.

You're so right, it's a completely different type of grief and loss. My own Buster died a year and a half ago and I still miss him terribly. We already had another dog, and she is still with us, but it doesn't really help. I wish I could have him back. He was far from perfect, but we had a very strong connection with him. Sometimes when I got home from work I was very tired and would lie on the couch for a nap, he would jump up and curl up in my arms, lick me for a bit and then nap with me. And he hated being apart from us (other than staying at home while we worked). Sorry, didn't mean to write a book about and now I'm crying. But it shows what a big place he took up in my heart, and that we were lucky to have him while we did.

Oh I agree 110%, just the other day I was going through the Google pics app on my phone and found an old video of my late staffie blaze with his trademark whimper, never even knew I had that video backed up, first time I heard his whimper in 5 years and the waterworks started for about 5 minutes 😅 it's as bad as losing your mum, dad, brother, sister, it's awful isn't it. At least I know the fat turd's getting all the chicken and gravy he wants in heaven now 😅

Yeah it's definitely different, I felt like I lost my best friend when my dog Molly died, we were really close and she followed me everywhere and cried when I left apparently, I'll never forget her so I know what you mean.

I still remember when my Cat passed away in my arms. In September 17. At least she waited for me. She seemed happier once I held her. Then she went.

I sooo agree i have four llhassas and now have 6 pups also on top of that god forbid if anything happened to any of my fur babies i luv them all to bits sooo much they are my life 💕💕💕💕👌👌👌👌

@@theresonlyonetruep3 I love Paul his books have made me 🤣🤣 he's so honest and down to earth. I felt for him when he announced Buster's death he looked devastated you could tell how much he loved Buster and that they had a strong bond. I lost my cat last year he was seriously ill and there was nothing the vet could do so I had to make the difficult decision to put him asleep I was absolutely devastated I cried for weeks afterwards he was my security blanket he was so loving and affectionate I had such a strong bond with him whenever I was sad he would lay in my lap purring and nuzzling me. I said the same thing as Paul as well no more animals its too heartbreaking and months later I changed my mind and I'm now in the process of adopting two rescue cats

+Jennifer Kelly Well said lv sorry for your loss. I had to put my staffy Tora down in September due to lung cancer she was only seven, I still break my heart over her. It's like losing a family member. Pets steal your heart xx

Definitely not just a dog. I still feel the pain of losing my King Charles Spaniel on July 5th 1986!!!! Her name was Misty. Best non human friend I ever had. So I understand how you feel....

A bit different, but three months ago I lost my cat who was aged 13. Now some of you might not like cats, but this one was different. It was the friendliest animal that I've ever had. It used to wash the dogs and wouldn't try and annoy them even if they annoyed him at times. I even forgot he was a cat at times because he was so unique and different.

M A ward.My girlfriends daughter has a shitzu/bichon cross he is so lovely natured and kind.He gets tons of love from us for sure.

Paul's other dog Olga died last year.

@@christopherdrennan5819 My partner and I look after a bischon-shitzu cross as buster was. He is the most sensitive and kind dog, and of course we love him dearly, as Paul would have buster.

It kind of sounds ridiculous to say it's one of the most heartbreaking things, but it really is. I'm sure there are worse things one can go through, but it's right up there on the list....

Paul was only 67yrs. Old, far too young, I learned to love that man through Batersea dogs home, I am an Australian, I wish we had all those shows he did, he was a fine human being, and very funny, his humour was never at the other person's expense, not like some other person in Australia, I loved his caring for animals, ALL ANIMALS, we will miss you Paul ❤❤❤❤ RIP

I came to say the same thing. So sad. The dog was such a good boy and Paul a gentleman.

Benny Hill I think that's the difficulty of it. You question yourself. Am I doing the right thing at the right time,? He still has one or two good days, and as you said me making that decision, the phone call, the actual process is so heartbreaking. But if anyone is reading this and has a sick, poorly pet don't think that the euthanasia process is horrible for the dog/cat. I was surprised at how peaceful and so quick it was. Also vets will come to your home to do it. Which is what I did with my German Shepherd, Jake. I say it's heartbreaking for the owner who has to watch the lights all go out.
