that's the story of many a vocalist (and quite a few guitarist) of every era.. "coulda been one of the best , if only they weren't their own worst enemy".
Easily said afterwards… Ozzy was also a drifter, the music business (or scene) is veeery unpredictable, a lot of luck and record companies hyping is involved, people are sheep, though good music surfaces, but also very epic music doesn’t… i got bands here of world class, but they only made it untill the demo phase… in some countries, you got a huge disadvantage (promotion record companies, …. etc. ….) rock on 🤘
Paulie is on of my top 5 most favorite performers/entertainers. This song is a good example of how there's life after Maiden for this guy and even after all the BS he's still rockin, even if it's from a wheelchair or what have you his need to please people, and he does that, STILL exists!! Rock On!!!
Can't agree more. I love first two Maiden albums. Paul rocks! This was unknown to me,i like it. It would be better without the mullet. The band is pretty good too
Even if I cant imagine the Dickinson-Albums with his voice - I still cant stand Dickinson singing Killers. It just feels like the Thomanerchoir tries singing ""Iron man". Y´know what I mean?
Paul had talent, but he chose a lifestyle that would forever prohibit him from making it big. The talent was there. But the self-discipline wasn't. It's sad, because he put out great albums both with and outside of Maiden.
@Butt Head Have you ever read his book "The Beast"? He admits openly he sabotaged his own career. Most of it is B.S., but he does have a sense of humour.
@@mark_beastpriest5539 I wanted to read "The Beast" for ages but never found a copy, then last year I managed to find one and, well, it really doesn't do him any favours at all. He comes across as a lot of a twat. Crass, sexist, yobbish and cheap. As someone who absolutely loves his era of Maiden, I kinda wish I hadn't read it.
@@jonnydavies6968 I know what you mean. However, according to Rod Smallwood, over half of it is bullsh*t, trying to capitalize on his image. He contradicts himself at every turn, which shows he's not always in a right state of mind. But those two first Maiden albums were great, but he was a pain in the ass to the band.
Id agree Mark paul was amazing with maiden he had an energy Bruce didn't he sang with more passion his voice powerful he's bar none maidens best frontman the 2 albums he did with maiden are masterpieces Bruce singing old maiden doesn't sound anywhere near as good but as you said he's never truly been stable and that definitely impacted Steve's decision to move on from him i have to say. Bruce took them over the top but Bruce kept his life together all the boys from maiden are cool dudes I heard paul singing running free a few yrs back he sounded good it is what it is but paul was maiden along with clive otherwise there's just no real spark my opinion
MegaMortician the question is, what about now? Sounding lousy, he arrogantly proclaims, 'I sing metal, not opera' seemingly forgetting how melodic he once was.
Not like the Priest there isn't enough grinding of bones. The Priest sound is a g tune and KK Downing has his guitars wired for maximum treble. Listen to Grinder, Metal Gods basically anything from British Steel
He will never be forgotten. The first 2 maiden classics are 2 of the best hard rock/metal albums ever made and many cite them as their favorite maiden albums. I am not even a big metal fan and they are 2 of my all time favorite albums and it's Paul Diannos punk stylings that make those albums what they are .
Paul was a phenomental talent and Battlezone deserved a lot more recognition. Too bad Hurley wasn't on this album even though it was still quite good. Fighting Back is just an all-time classic.
There's no questions about. Paul Di Anno was maybe one of the most underrated vocals of the rock &roll history of all times and one of the Best too, Even when for a long periods of time we lose any trace of their works. A great lead singer, the legacy of his voice remains carved in the original tapes of iron maiden' killers.
I agree with you, sometime ago a relative gave to me a DVD of BS with Ozzy...horrible!!!! Couldn't end watching it, boring and Ozzy 's singing is awful. Di Anno 's million times a better singer... but once more, less gifted people get better oportunities...
he had so much talent. If he stayed away from alcohol and drugs and got a vocal teacher to keep his voice in shape, chances are that he would've been bigger than Iron Maiden themselves
Welcome to the Battlezone ! there was a song for that but it's not on RU-vid... This was so under promoted that people commenting are hearing this for the first time because of RU-vid,, almost 40 years later.. I remember back then nobody had his records.Nobody I knew anyways. No MTV Headbangers ball play nothing..About like the Group TNT.But he was under promoted even worse than TNT here in the USA. Loved The power Metal of the 80's
This is a brilliant song. I used to have the album Children of Madness on record back in the late 80s. I remember there was some good tracks on it. I wish I could have seen this back then. It's a shame Paul has never had the same level of success as Maiden. But from from what he has said in interviews it seems like he never wanted to be hugely famous anyway. He's always seen himself as a punk at heart. This is a great clip.
This is the best I’ve ever heard from him! Wow! If I’d been played this without knowing who it was I would never have believed it was him! IM we’re doing Somewhere in Time around this era and I can totally hear Paul singing that album based on what I’m hearing here! His image looks good here too! He deserves much more success.
This is Great! Paul is awesome, post Maiden.. this band was probably marketed poorly, never heard much about them back then and they look like just another hair Metal band in the 80's.. Still.. excellent jams and to note.. Cherry Red records, in the UK is releasing a 3 CD set in June of the first 2 albums, plus his later band Killers.. Live in 2000.. Yeah, that's a good score right there.
Knockout ! Thanks for posting that.Hidden treasure .Paul sounding topnotch, still really had it back then .It sounds better if not looking at this goofy bunch of Krokus lookers .Great performance Paul ;.expect I'll get to like the songs the more i hear them
Paul was young and healthy here sad how he's fallen so far sad to see him playing in shithole nightclubs today paul you'll Always be my favorite maiden vocalist Bruce love you too🤟🤟🤟🤟👍👍😒
Maybe not healthy, as he was full of drugs, but but. He sings very good here. I love his voice and tone, and he could also reach higher tones, just like Bruce. I love the first album and Killers, and think how great he would sound on Piece of Mind songs, Powerslave and such. Wow!
@@edwardbennett7813 I'm so sad for Paul. I met him locally, when he played pub's a few years ago, he didn't look very good. He couldn't almost walk. Sorry for my English, I'm Scandinavian. Paul actually has a child in Sandnes / Norway.
@@edwardbennett7813 My family members who occasionally listen to Metal music, but are not hard core fans, say to me that the first two Maiden albums are pure gold in terms of songwriting. Because those albums has a Drive and to-the-point music, and they like Paul's vocal sound. These family members, in no harm from me to Bruce in anyway, can't listen to the other records, it doesn't appeal to them. It's very interesting observations. Too sad how Paul ended up were he has ended up. :(
@@rabarebra paul had lots of talent he chose booze drugs and instability if he'd stayed clean he'd been much more successful paul sang with passion it came from the heart he chose a bad lifestyle steve harris gave him many chances to clean up his life if he had it would been him who took maiden to the top not bruce
Ironically, this has a touch of Samson’s sound about it. I can definitely hear him singing the Number Of The Beast, Piece Of Mind and Powerslave albums and doing a great job if he’d not f**ked it all up.
Saw him at Reggie's rock house Christmas Night, I think 2011, did Maiden's first two albums from start to finish, it's in my top 5 concerts of all time.
Very good. I wish I would have heard them back in 1987 but they just didn’t make it that big. So much competition in metal back then. Metallica, Motörhead, Judas Priest, Megadeth, and of course Maiden.
paul the man dianno. earned respect the hard way. try not to be closed minded all rock and metal has value. have learned this over my years now 50yrs old. was only a teenager when this sound was out there in the ether.
Ja ja ja ya tenia un buen rato q no lo escuchaba asi este no era su estilo pero si era agradable tipo estilo Judas apriest en los proximos discos despues del Turbo Love
Leaving Maiden was clearly the best thing for him. He sounds better here than he ever did with them. For anyone saying the performance is mimed, it doesn’t matter. He sounds better here than he did in the studio with Maiden so even if it’s a studio recording it’s still incredible.
