Honestly, losing Brent Venables hasn't seemed that big of a loss for them surprisingly. Their Defense has remained stout even after his departure. Their Offense though, is just not good.

Saban can get whoever he wants and so can Dabo. It has nothing to do with coaching. It does however have everything to do with recruiting and his refusal to use the transfer portal.

Every team now loses players to the portal,so you have to go into the portal at times to replace them. Kirby is similar to Dabo about getting players from the portal. He says that you have to be careful not to bring disgruntled players who can mess up the chemistry of your team. That's why you have to carefully bet these transfers. UGA brought in two receivers this pass off-season but they had recruited those guys while they were still in high school, so they knew who they were dealing with.

Clemson literally has an NIL program, and the portal isn't the issue because Clemson has the talent. The issue is talent development which goes back to position coaches. Dabo hired a bunch of former players and friends who weren't qualified for this level of play. Paul and many were right but everyone fails to see the actual issue. NIL + Portal is just the words tossed around because it is the brainless thing for people to point finger at.

Miami was also riddle with probation. Larry Coker was not a great recruiter and his teams got worse each year he was their.

@@melroze the recruiting part is true. The probation was more towards the beginning of 2010. If you ask both fan bases the defenses were the bright spots carrying the lackluster offense

Good point. One other thing is that the receivers these past 3 years cannot get separation, and the deep ball threat like we had in the Sammy Watkins/Nuk Hopkins/Mike Williams/Tee Higgins days is gone. Defensive backs just tighten up on coverage, taking away the screen pass and closing the gaps for the running game. This will not change until they get another star receiver(s).

Difference is Miami has 5 titles with 4 coaches… so there’s precedence to get it turned around. Clemson was horrible… forever until 10 years ago

Clemson and Miami are two totally different situations. Clemson has gone from best-to-bad while under the same coach. Miami has NEVER been good for the past 22 years, while under about 6 different dud head coaches. It is a real mystery why Miami never rebounded to its past 1980s/90s dominance. They are at ground zero again. Cristobal is terrible.

Dabo is not going to be the only great coach that leaves this game cause of the NIL. I expect great coaches will coach three or four years till they get enough to live on for the rest of their life and then kiss the NIL and portal goodbye!

I think he is still in consideration though. Dabo clearly seems to not have adapted well to change though.

If he doesn't want to use the portal, and he doesn't want his players to earn money fairly, then he shouldn't accept a paycheck that was supposed to compete with coaches who do the WHOLE job, not just the locker room speech and the press conference, and the check cashing parts.

@@tedmcnair9709 The options aren't "Completely ignore the portal" and "Pull a Deion and replace your entire team." Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, are all teams that use the Portal how it should be used. IE: identify weak spots they have, and go grab a skill player for that position.

In Swinney's 3rd full year, they achieved both, and have had 10 win seasons ever since. Yeah, that's over this year (as this year's offense is awful) and may be over for a while to come, but I'll always be thankful for the great past decade.

You're right - to a point. They're going to have to change/adapt to the times because over the years they've lost a lot of players to the transer portal and have picked up almost none. But a rebuild can happen faster than 8 years. Florida State's program was a mess just 3-4 years ago, and now they are solid. We'll see.

Lack of awareness to Put Mafah in over Ship. And the fact that there are no new ideas in out locker room. IDC how good Spiller was as a player. Just because youre' a good athlete doesn't always translate to being able to develop other athletes. Our fumbles are not "bad luck" its bad coaching. Bad luck spans one game and really bad luck maybe seeps into the next. It doesnt' last into week 9 of the season.... There's also no playmaking capabilities from Cade. Sure he's a great athlete. But he has no "dog" in him that when a play breaks down he's able to make something out of nothing. On any given play there are a minimum of 2 reads and up to 5. If cades first 2 reads break down. So does he. I attribute this to coaching as well. What are the odds we get two of the top QB's of their respective classes. and 2-3 years into our program they look like they should be playing Juco. That's coaching all day! (for example - a good coach makes an average player look great. We cant get our great players to look average at times.. Truly embarrasing and miserable to watch on a weekly basis. All in a matter of 2 seasons. I've never seen anything like this..

From 2002 thru 2008 the most dominant program was the USC Trojans under Pete Carroll, with the Oklahoma Sooners under Bob Stoops being a very close second. The only reason that USC drops off is that Carroll went to the NFL. Right as Carroll goes out of college football Nick Saban comes back in.

Coaching when I came up was likelu in the low hundred thousands whereas now offensive coordinators can make multi-- million dollar occasions. It's invaded coaches too and that's why I can see the "getting yours" and splitting. Loyalty everywhere had been undermined and encouraged by actions meant to remove it's existence. How? Harbaugh wanted to leave Michigan before the NIL. Saban left LSU as a champion a year prior in 2003 after being okay in 2004. Urban Meter left Florida when they were still good.

Well, I am not sure because our defense is still really good. Our offense is not good. I think some of it is a wide receiver issue. But, also ball protection has really hurt clemson this year.

The list for Dabo is long: (1) replace great players with other great players; (2) replace top performing coaches with other top performing coaches; (3) use the transfer portal; (4) use NIL.
