A great video about the genius of Paul Gascoigne. Gazza is widely regarded as one of the most gifted players of his generation. This video contains awesome clips from Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio, Glasgow Rangers and of course from his England career.

Last week I was in Bournemouth and walking down the middle of the town. There was a busker playing a saxaphone and nobody paying much interest apart from a guy all alone . I stopped to listen and looked closely and the guy stood there was no other then Gazza. I swear, growing up in the 80's and 90's he was my all time hero and was not sure wether to approach him. However I did, and asked if I could have a photo taken with him. "Give us a fiver mate for the busker". Without thinking my hand went into my pocket to give him a fiver, then I looked and realised he was joking. I spent a few minutes chatting to him and all I can say is that he was great fun and looked in good health and a total pleasure. It was five minutes of my life I will never forget. They say never talk to your heros but in this case my hero turned out to be just as he was on the football field..quality!

The man was a football genius, and by his own admission it was his life, he lived and breathed it, when his career ended it was as if there was nothing more to live for, i dont think he recieved nearly enough help at the time Id love to see gazza happy, at peace with himself and contented with life once again.

I watched most of the home games when Gazza was at Spurs. This video mentions his pace off the mark, and that can't be emphasised enough. Players like Bale are fast and have good technical control of the ball but Gazza's pace for the first couple of seconds was just as explosive and furthermore his control was utterly intuitive, like Maradona. Gazza wasn't the same player after he lost his acceleration due to the second knee injury at Lazio. Plus his personal life became increasingly chaotic. The light that burns twice as bright lasts half as long.

Saw him playing for Rangers against my Hibs a few times. Past his peak, but wow. Our crowd gave him pelters for hitting his wife. We were 3-1 up and lot 4-3 he scored a screamer. Left the pitch to the biggest standing ovation I’ve ever seen Hibs fan give a non hibees player. Very special player

Yes how very sad Gazza was one of those players that you could say come around once in a generation, had the class& skill not many are born with.I remember his whole career from when he made that big move to Lazio when Serie A was you could say the biggest league in the world& also euro 96 the sublime skill I remember him at Italia 90 maybe that's where he let the world know Gazza had really arrived.I hope he can get better C'mon Gazza let the legend live on:)

People criticising him due to his injuries, mental problems and drinkign problems and some saying a waste of talent. Gascoigne nearly got us to both a world cup and European final, being the star player in probably the best two England sides in my lifetime and had the guts to go abroad, where he was successful when fit. Achieved far more for his country than any of the next big things Joe Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Barkley, Wilshire etc etc. For me the most talented and successful English player for his country. Great player and personality during his career

When Gascoigne was putting the ball down to hammer that free kick into the top corner v arsenal, look at the wall set up, Kevin Campbell is like hes not going to shoot from there is he as the wall dosnt even take shape properly. Seamen thinks twice before he even moves and then its too late. Man what a hit that was. top bin.

Of course not, the man famously did all the contrary of an athlete's life. When in Lazio he even did things like train while sipping from a gatorade bottle filled with whiskey under 35 decrees C temperatures, he ran untill he fell on the ground and had to be hauled in the lockers on a stretcher... :-D He even broke a leg during training by launching himself in a drunken crazy tackle ending with his own weight on his leg bent and misplaced under him, like a nutcase sack of potatoes. He could have probably been 30-40% stronger without boozing every day, could have been the strongest offensive midfielder of his age.

He was sensational in his early career but I don't think the very best at the time there were so many amazing players I think the standard overall was better in the 90's Gaza vs Rooney Gazza every time!!!! I'm talking about a period in football history when the best players mostly played in Italy as that was regarded as the best league in the world at the time, the greatest of that time there were many, Van Basten, Romario, Roberto Baggio, Ronaldo the first, Batistuta, Klinsman, Totti, Zidane, Del Piero, Rui Costa, Rinaldo, Ronaldinho, these players were the very best in my opinion and Gazza was good but just not to there level!

Without him and Laudrup I'm not sure if we'd have done 9 in a row. So glad to see him back at ibrox a few weeks ago. Players of today should watch some of the old footage of how to get forward and score goals, today its all pass pass pass no Confidence to just drive on and shoot, it's like if they run 3/4 of the pitch and beat 4 or 5 players they get to edge of the box with only 1 to beat, stop and pass to the side or stop like there's an invisible wall.

I sincerely hope that Paul can overcome his demons because he is certainly not a bad man. He is unfortunately challenged by personal insecurities. One thing is for sure, that Paul Gascoigne was the one player England had at the time, who was good enough to have walked into any other international side on the planet. If he was Brazilian he would have walked into the Brazil team. Brazil wished that he was Brazillian because he played like a Brazilian.
