I was bullied in school. I was convinced by other students to stand and fight back. I did fight back and that person never bullied me again and wanted to be my friend. You see bullies are cowards. Stand up and be seen. I grew up listening to Paul Harvey's stories and loved everyone of them!

I grew up east coast inner city, we had our share of bullies and I hated them. My first encounter with one, I was 5, got sucker punched, when I got home, my Pop saw the mark on my face , asked what happened, told him, he gave me a real man talking to and made go back out and face him. I clocked him with a piece of 2x4…he never bothered me again. It became my mission to take on a bully every time I saw them beating on someone smaller or weaker . I spent a lot of days in detention and twice, I hurt them so bad that I was suspended for a week twice. Bully’s exist because people let them, screw all this no tolerance BS, protect yourself at all times. I’m now 69 and still don’t give a crap about bully’s

When I was in grade school I came home one day all disheveled and with grass stains on my pants. My dad asked me what happened and I told him I just got beat up. I was afraid that I would get in trouble for fighting but he said go ahead and fight back. The next time it happened I took care of business and that was the end of it. After that I made a point of standing up for other kids that were getting bullied.

When my son was young he came home from school crying and said he was being picked on by a classmate. I explained to my son he was the biggest kid in class and as soon as you do something to the bully they will quit. My son said if he does something he will get suspended for a few days and I said that will be fine and we will have a pizza party. I told him as soon as he starts doing something to retaliate like it’s the end of his life. It happened in the bathroom and my son punched the bully and like all bullies that ended it and life went on and he was excited to go to school instead of being in fear. I guess that’s why we have public schools and bully’s , to teach us how to cope with life when we get out of school.

This story goes on in many. I to was bullied. So my parents sent me to one karate class where I told the instructor I needed to learn how to defend myself from a bully. The instructor made that whole days lesson all about how to take a hand from behind and flip the person over your back using their weight and drop them flat on their back. I was a natural and took to this one move like a champ. Next day, after dropping that bully like a load of bricks, we became friends. He thought me soccer. Neither of us are chuck Norris. Lol.

YES YOU HAVE TO STAND UP FOR YOURSELF, I WAS IN 1ST GRADE, HE WAS IN 6TH, EVERY MORNING HE'D BULLY ME EVERYDAY, I TOLD MY FATHER & ASKED HIM WHAT DO I DO HE'S TWICE AS TALL AS I WAS, MY FATHER SAID TO WARN HIM ONCE, NOT TO MESS WITH ME AGAIN OR HE'D FEEL THE PAIN, MY LAST NAME WAS PAYNE. HE JUST LAUGHED & WACKED ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD & SAID HE WAS SOO SCARED... THEN I HIT HIM IN THE STOMACH AS HARD AS I COULD ,HE DOUBLED OVER & THEN I ELBOWED HIM IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. HE WENT STRAIGHT DOWN FACE 1ST IN THE DIRT ....HE DIDN'T GET ON THE BUS THAT MORNING & NEVER DID ANY THING TO ANY ONE AFTER THAT... FROM THEN ON I WAS 10' TALL & BULLET PROOF, YA JUST GOTTA TAKE A STAND ,IT DOES WORK, SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME IN 7TH GRADE A NEW KID S A ID HE WAS FROM NYC & HE WAS A BAD ASS IN HIS EYES, PICKED ON ME ONCE,I WARNED HIM & DID THE SAME THING, YA JUST GOTTA BE QUICK & FOLLOW THROUGH . THE NEXT DAY HE SAID HE NEEDED A FRIEND & THAT BEING NEW HE DIDN'T KNOW ANYONE & WOULD I BE HIS FRIEND! GLAD I LISTENED TO MY FATHER. I ALWAYS HATED BULLYS & I OFTEN WOULD CONFORNT THEM & TELL THEM TO LEAVE OTHERS ALON.

Yes, my dad taught me and my brothers, to "never let a bully pick on you." So that's what we did. I was the oldest so I had a lot more bullies to fight than my younger brothers. Because of my success in fighting the bullies, after some years, the bullies left me alone for the most part, and apparently my brothers didn't have to fight many bullies at all, I think because of my "notoriety" among the "bully circles", who no longer wanted to pick on me, or my little brothers.

Overcoming fears and obstacles helps us grow. We need bullies in our lives for us to conquer our fears and not look for safe places, or get anxious and depressed. Parents today do their kids no favors by wiping away these obstacles thus hindering proper maturity to the real world. There is no growth in comfort and no comfort in growth. The gas station owner could have stepped in and confronted the bully but he knew what I just enumerated.

I had a bully who bothered me for months, and one day my older brother intercepted that bully as he was about to confront me. I thought at the time that my brother was going whoop his butt for me, but he made me fight him myself. My brother was just there to make sure one of the bully’s followers didn’t get me from behind. All it took was me punching the bully in the mouth and drawing blood that made the bully run away. I took my licks, too, but my pent up rage kept me numb and pushing forward to victory! My brother totally changed my life by letting me deal with it, in the same way as Chuck. I never became a karate champ, but I never backed down to anyone ever again! My brother was wise beyond his years. If my Dad(retired Marine) had gotten involved, things would have been really ugly, so it’s a secret my brother and I have kept throughout our lives!

I think it's a big part of what is wrong with this country. Back in the day we had a place where we used to settle the score if issues came up in school. Now, both kids can get in trouble regardless who started what which I think is wrong. You are teaching kids they can't stand up for themselves if attacked? Bovine feces! My older brother encouraged me to fight back and taught me how. One of the best lessons I ever learned. I was small for my age but once the word got out that I didn't take any crap, I no longer needed to take crap. And that's what I taught my daughter. She doesn't start trouble but she doesn't back down either. Lesson learned.

That’s the indoctrination to a lifetime of blind obedience to government. Government is by far the biggest bully ever and they know that if enough citizens stand up and fight back, they will lose. So we are taught not to stand up for ourselves so they can continue to run roughshod all over us.

His mom took him out of school the next day and I never saw him again. As far as the bully goes he kept up his reign of terror. Luckily he dropped out of school a couple yrs later. My grandfather did me the same way when this bigger kept picking on me. He told me if I didn't fight back, he'd give me a whipping. He said, you might not be able to whip him, but once he learns you'll fight back, he'll stop. I tried and the next time I ran at him swinging, but I tripped, and my forehead hit him in the nose, he saw blood and ran away crying. The principle and a couple teachers came to talk to me. and I was scolded, but I think they saw the size difference and left it at that. He never picked on me again.

I had no idea!!! Thanks for putting that on. I always loved Paul Harvey's stories!! My comment I guess wasn't done. I listened to Paul at lunch every day when I was in my early 20s with a man who was my late father's age. They both were like my Dad, Walter and Paul. Those were great days and they taught me to be discerning with incoming information. Pay attention and break it down. Don't read into it what you want, read what is actually there. Something Dems can't do since most of that propaganda is pure lies and wishful thinking. But look down the line of comments here! You are my Paul Harvey family! He gave us the desire to discern the truth and dispell the lie. To read the words of propagandists and see the plot for what it really is. We are analysts. He, then rush or other equally concerned individuals taught us to not be fools. Read all the comments. This is your group of like minded friends. I love your comments! Your great people!!! We had a football player in high school that was a bully and had a little gang rival that would hang with him,, he would push and smack people around in school high school, long story short he missed over half the football season , with medical injuries, I wanted to put him out permanently but it was overruled.
