Tbf its not the first time a lot of forwards do this type of thing in Premier League. In england its normal. Watch players like Jack Grealish, Harvey Elliots they all cheat all the time. The only difference is they don't play for Arsenal. If they played for Arsenal it would be all over the news every week when they dive haha. I think the problem is Hackett hasn't made his point very clearly, it's presented in a confusing way, so yes there is contradiction because of that. As for VAR he is suggesting it should be being used differently to actually aid the ref reaching the correct decision and not the clear and obvious error mandate that currently exists.

If we want football to be the entertainment and football play and contest to be the drama not some sideshow of cheating drama etc. Then - Any player attacking should be trying to score or aid their team to score a goal. The system managing football - rules, guidance, match officials and VAR should be about aiding referees to consistently make the fair and correct decision, unfortunately as demonstrated by Hackett that is not the case. Probably because they value the entertainment and drama value that people are invested in, which keeps people interested and the media in a job to a greater extent than would be otherwise. Any given situation could result in a penalty or no penalty with or without a card of some colour. Saka in this specific instance is stretching a situation to con the Ref to make a decision for penalty. Some don't see it that way because of what they think should be considered or a bias that flips their decision if their team is on the receiving end. For his endeavours Sakas reward should have been no penalty and a yellow card for simulation absolutely. But his actions are indicative of a system that has cultivated that behaviour due to the rewards on offer. The system should have ensured that all relevant information is known to ensure the Ref can make the best decision in line with the spirit of a game with integrity and player safety not cultivating cheating and reckless contact

@DovaGeris Never a penalty. Saka literally kicked his leg out forward to initiate and create contact with Neuer. If anything, it technically should have been a foul on Saka for kicking Neuer.

Saka has two feet on the ground side by side and leaves the ground with both feet from at least a meter away from Neuer and Saka puts his right leg in a position to make contact with Neuer. Explain how any of that is down to Neuer. Watch the TNT highlights from minute 4 at 1/4 speed. There's the evidence of the order and nature of what happened.

Saka has pushed the ball to his left, effectively meaning he is no longer in possession, as he's no longer in a position to control the ball unless he tries to follow where he's pushed it, which he doesn't, instead at least a meter away from Neuer with 2 feet side by side on the ground he takes off with both feet in the air with his right leg out to the side to be able to make the contact with Neuer. Please explain how these are actions of someone interested in trying to play football by trying to stay in possession of the ball and trying to go around Neuer. Rather than the actions of someone who actually wants the contact to get a penalty. Don't believe it, watch the TNT highlights from Sakas planted feet at minute 4 at 1/4 speed and see whether Saka had the possibility of a different action what was his intention really. It then comes down to whether your in the camp of wanting football to be about the right to go down or about trying to play football and getting the officiating system up to scratch to manage a game with greater integrity than the whole diving and con artistry that is being perpetuated currently.

@@fuzzywuzzy599 I am shocked you completely overlooked the role of the original offender Neuer who quite deliberately stuck his leg out to make sure Saka's movement to access the ball is impeded ....Saka could have tried to avoid contact but once Neuer obstructed his movement towards the ball it was not the best option for him to take. I am sure Neuer or another GC would not get away with the same offence in UCL again.

Please watch it and digest what I've said in that comment and then point out how what I've said is not representative of what happens. How is it possible for Saka to have 2 feet in the air equivalent to jumping prior to any contact with Neuer. How is his action representative of someone trying to go in the direction in which he's directed the ball, which is what he would need to do to remain in possession of that ball?

If you did you'll discover that any movement that you suggest by Neuer is not representative of the effect you suggest given the time and space and opportunity for Saka. With Saka being effectively out of possession and going into Neuer is not on Neuer it's on Saka.

The FACT is you don't know what certain words in the English language mean. Sub optimal performance due to pressure - which means they have to be capable of the desired level of performance in the first instance, without the presence of the pressure in question. As a team sport that also means not just a single individual but the team and squad as a collective. Therefore quality and injuries matter as quality goes down when the better players are injured. Outside of an accurate representation of this, it's an incorrect use of the word. It's then just playground banter bullshit! Which is irrelevant to anyone without kids mentality.
