Gab saying, "Do you really want to advance a UCL KO round like that?" has to be the funniest sh*t ever. Man is thinking this is some kind of a sports anime or something. That was a mistake by Gabriel and should be a penalty.
Gab argument is so stupid and shows that he never played in any level Imagine a world where refs can decide to not follow the laws because that’s not how to win a game 😂🤣 Isn’t following the laws the ONLY reason we have refs?
Notice the difference? The British (Scotts are still British) side with arsenal and pundits from other countries side with Bayern and the actual rules of the game
@@escape2nirvana a bit off there. Craig Burley was the only British person who thought it should not have been given. The two Brits on this episode are siding with Bayern and the Italian journalist with Arsenal
@@AlfaRed156 Craig and Gab are Bayern / Germany haters through and through. It`s just funny to watch them even making the most rediculous excuse to belittle the german sides.

@@MCR4291 Is that worse than how the Brits enforce laws? By looking at Club size and penalizing the small clubs but letting CIty do whatever they want? Long live England...
@@eeterp32 I watched those Arsenal clips, like Nedum said, before it was Raya throwing the ball to Gabriel not kicking it in the line after the Ref blew the whistle lol
It’s every clip. He thinks he is waaaaaay smarter than he is. I think he has disdain for his dumb exfootballer coworkers and thinks he can just bully his way out of an argument.
Both players had no idea they were violating the rules. That’s the comparison. There is no advantage and there is confusion over whether the ball was in play. Rival fans crying and autists disagree sure.
If bayern defenders had done this then the whole Arsenal fanbase would be in uproar how they would never get these decisions. I think that says it all really.
No it really doesn't, I agree they would be in uproar. But any fanbase would want a penalty there if they were in that position and the side that committed it would not want the penalty.
It's been 3 days and you still crying about that. Atleast let your team try to score a goal from open play...arsenal lifted them two goals. How many more do you want ?
Is this your argument Gab? Don’t you know most tight games are decided by mistakes? Is it nice for the spirit of the game?no. But It’s a penalty, period. Arguing otherwise is so unbelievably stupid .
if italy had some sort of a similar situation in a match with say germany, and italy didn't get the pk, i'm sure gab would be fuming about it...come on, follow the rules...
I hate this way of disagreeing with people. In some totally hypothetical situation you just made up “you’re sure” Gab could have contradicted himself. The fact is Arsenal did not gain any advantage from this situation, and Bayern had no disadvantage. Giving a penalty which has a 75% chance of a goal being scored is incredibly disproportionate. A made up scenario where Gab would also misuse this rule because of bias doesn’t change that.
@@Adriaantje2008well that's true but if you're saying they didn't get an advantage so it's fine is something I don't necessarily agree with cause it means players can just break the law but once it doesn't give them an advantage its fine?
Never a pen bro. The whistle was for preparing to take goal kick not for taking the goal kick and Gabriel has taken every single one of our goal kicks so Raya just gave him the ball to take the goal kick. You arsenal haters are getting out of hand.
Craig's futbol mind, picking up the ball if you're under pressure defending, is an option. Gab's futbol mind, if you don't gain an advantage from your actions on the field, do whatever you want, there are no rules
If I were to hypothesize his wild theory :: I'm a rich person with no money problems so I can casually walk into a shop and steal items. In due course my argument to the court will be "I'm rich and I'm not under any external pressure, so therefore I'm not guilty of taking items without paying"
What a buch of ludicrous statements you guys just wrote here. Comparing a theft with entertainment is just stupid. However If you want to find an analogy there I'd say: Imagine someone being arrested for shoplifting a banana in the market. By the letter of the law you arrest him but It is ridiculous and unecessary. The judge would let It go
So, going by what the ref said, if a more senior Arsenal player had done what Gabriel did, he would have given a penalty? Are there two sets of rules? One for seasoned players and one for young players?
@@karkenangu4088Huh? Of course it matters what the ref says. We aren’t bots watching the sport. If he makes a dubious call which made a huge impact, people are gonna discuss it.
I honestly do feel for all involved with this. I actually want to side with the ref because it's so harsh. The problem though is for me being a Dortmund fan I know 100% if we did something like that it would be called a penalty. We can't have this double standard like that. It would one be one thing if the ref didn't acknowledge it, but he did.
Im a massive Galatasaray fan. Imagine if we did this. Entire ESPN would be out with pitch forks. It's sad they are making excuses for a clear and obvious infringement.
Lol you lot doesn't know how harshly Arsenal has been treated by the refs over the years. This one decision goes to their favour and the whole world is at a meltdown. Pathetic
It’s sportsmanship for a reason. It’s the rules but come on 😂 bunch of people would laugh at Bayern and the ref. This is an equivalent of continuing playing while a player has a heart attack, injury during the game. Hey, it’s not my fault that he is laying on the ground but the game still playing, come on
Gab keeps talking about spirit of the game over law of the game. If I remember correctly two seasons ago at Old Trafford game between ManUtd & Arsenal, DeGea was injured in the middle of the game down on the ground and Arsenal didn’t stop and scored the game with a shot seeing DeGea down injured. The referee allowed the goal because in the eyes of the law it was a goal. Foul wasn’t committed. DeGea injury was muscle pull (or something like that). Hence the spirit of the game argument is nonsense.
So now players can reset the ball in the box and it won’t be a penalty because they aren’t being pressured lol okkkkay last time I checked touching the ball after the whistle isn’t something anyone apart from the goalkeeper can do lol it’s mental the excuses we are hearing why this wasn’t given nonsense
What's not to hate about Germany? Playing awful football and acting all high and mighty engaging in woke liberal BS instead of focusing on playing football.
Oh please.... Stop being delusional! I GURANTEE that it this was Nuer to Rudiger on the other side, Arteta and Arsenal fans will be crying wolf for a week
As an Arsenal fan i was at first on the side of using common sense. However after listening to how Nedum Onuha broke it down, I've realised that it should've been a penalty. In fact, im more annoyed as i thought we removed these comical errors from the team
I want to see games won as fair as possible which is why we have rules of the game, Gab talked about not giving anyone a advantage but the ref gave arsenal a advantage in the game by not calling the handball! If raya/Gabriel weren’t switched on and had a bozo moment then they only have themselves to blame . I support arsenal and if a pen was given I’d be pissed at raya and gabriel not the referee
Stupid comment, this was a once in a million incident, literally nobody can point to another example of it. Intention matters and Gabriel's only intention was to restart the game according to the laws
I can't believe they had a heated discussion on this. This game is called 'football' for a reason, and only goalkeeper get to handle the ball only till inside the box, that's it. Gab's reasoning is just downright silly. These are not middle school lunch break football match 😂. It's a PENALTY !
Good to know if no players are around you can always pick up the ball and kick back to your GK for a restart. As a City fan this is perfect, we can change our tactics anytime and have Ederson kick longballs to Haaland. Hopefully Pep takes advantage of this 👍👍
You can use interpretation to decide whether hands were in natural position or not in a normal penalty. Not someone deciding to handle the ball while in play
@redlongford Referees are literally required to use the “spirit of the game” while interpreting decisions. It’s in the rule book and is not just some buzzword people are throwing around. In short, it means to use objective reasoning and situational awareness to enforce the laws of the game. What a lot of people don’t understand is the literal laws of the game are never fully enforced each game. Easy examples are throw-ins and free kicks regularly being taken 5-10 yards from where they should technically be taken. Goalkeepers holding the ball for more than 6 seconds. Players encroaching onto the opponents half before the ball is touched on kickoffs. The ball rolling on quick restarts when teams are trying to catch the other team off guard. Gabriel’s handball was technically a penalty kick by the literal letter of the law. But the referee realized that something as simple as Gabriel not properly hearing the whistle could have created the confusion. In those types of situations, players are very often given the benefit of the doubt. It happens all the time but most people completely ignore it.
Or he just genuinely feels that way. Not every contrary opinion comes from a place of hate. Gab is a respected football journalist not some 13 year old playing FIFA.
@@peacefulliberal5641 All throughout the industry. His contributions always elevate the quality of the show, even if you disagree with his perspective.
It’s a penalty, I’m sorry. There’s thousands of other scenarios where no one is pressured, accidential handballs in the box that would have no impact on where the ball goes, etc that are whistled because they are against the rules and not because they harmed the other team directly
So using Gab's logic, the Liverpool corner kick against Barcelona should have been retaken because Barca's defender and keeper were basically sleeping. Liverpool had every right to do that and they did, but you could make a case of unfair advantage and make them retake the corner saying it was an honest mistake. Very stupid argument from Gab! That should have been a penalty all day!
Who is Gab to decide how Bayern want to win ? If it was given as a penalty and Bayern won , I am sure Bayern would have been ecstatic . It was a mistake by their opponents, not any unsporting actions by Bayern that would have let to the penalty . As a man united fan , I don’t mind how they won a game as long as they played within the rules and sportsmanship . Deflecting Gabriel’s error onto Bayern is disingenuous
Exactly. Sportsmanship would demand you don't shout for a penalty in this situation. It's the same reason Tour De France cyclists don't attack when a rival has gone down in a crash. There has to be some honor among athletes (and managers). And the referee has enough discretion to make this call.
Gab has a clear bias against Bayern, to the point that he is unable to reason in a coherent way But I guess everything that would give Bayern an advantage is not „in the spirit of the game“ from Gab‘s perspective 😂
Very easy to side with those who played the game and those who didn't. Spot on from Stevie and Nedum. I'm an Arsenal fan and I can say with 100% certainty that Arteta would have blown his top off if that mistake was made by the bayern players.
Matches are decided by individual errors all the time. This is the nature of the game. Where do you draw the line between punishable and not punishable error? Thats what you have rules for. Tuchel is completely right to complain
Its not a letter of the law thing. You can't make dumb mistakes in profesional football and not be punished. Their the top league and this is a kids level mistake. You can't give them a free pase because you fell bayern did not earn a penalty. Most of futbol is decided by mistakes and erasing one of arsenal is unfair to bayern.
i honestly don't think that Gab is all that bright, rules aren't to be interpreted, rules are to be FOLLOWED, you pick up a ball that is in play, that is a PENALTY, its really quite simple
@fbdgvsklbfdgvsavk You are one of many people on this thread who do not appear to realize at all that the literal laws of the game are never followed each game and referees are required to officiate within the “spirit of the game.” This is a classic example of the “spirit of the game.” I.E.-Common sense prevailing.
Bro, the laws of the game are subjective and open to referees interpretation. Go read them. The letter of the law doesn't bear any resemblance to the way the game is refereed.
This reminds me of last seasons bundesliga clash in autumn from bayern vs bvb. Bellingham who at that time had already received a yellow card kicked davies in the face. A stupid mistake that 100% had to be punished by him receiving a second yellow, some would even say a direct red card. Yet the referee didnt do either of these things. Later when asked he seid that he had empathy for bellingham and didnt want to decide the game that way so he didnt do what he should have done following the rules. Davies had to leave the game visiting the hospital and later on in the game coman did two fouls and therefore received two straight yellow cards and got sent of - suddenly no more empathy was shown. Dortmund beeing one man up equalized the game in stoppage time.
So when does it start ? what mistakes are ok to ignore ? we have rules and a ref has to follow them. If you make this kind of mistake in the CL you deserve to get punished. we cant let refs ignore rules because of personal opinions.
so does this rule never get followed then? Since all top clubs play out of the back, we could literally see this situation 100 times on this weekend, will they all not be penalty?
@@FriendlyVisitor-vv6yr do you know how handball rules work in general? It's professional football. Following the letter of the law exactly and equaly is the fairest way possible. Make up as many stupid comparisons as you want. Not giving this penalty was a clear mistake by the ref, and Arsenal should be very thankful that they got away with it.
It's a game, not life or death, stop acting life this is the height of injustice, it's common sense to just play on and not decide an entire tie on one error.
@@trojantony195 Are you one of those people who's millions are on the line? I understand managers and players being annoyed by it but there is no reason for neutral fans to be upset by getting a more entertaining tie.
No because you have to be a certain type of person to ever reward that. You literally have to trash human being to think that justifies as a PK for any team.
@@AussieGooner14 Those are the rules of the game you obviously don't know them and if you are a team who its a once in a lifetime opportunity to win and the opposition did that, its cheating. Dumb decisions need to be punished otherwise someone breaks someone's leg and then the ref goes nah it was a slip....the rules are the rules. When Arsenal went invincible Viera was pure dirty and Pires dived all the time to get penalties so they must be trash humans by your definition. Odegaard handballed vs Liverpool and that was not given cos apparently it was a slip when the refs apologized after this game is a farce refs don't follow the rules.
Let’s be honest here. Everyone whose team would have benefited from the decision would support it and everyone who it went against would berate the ref. But even if you say this is a penalty, let’s be fair and say that Kane should have been sent off before that for the elbow. Especially with VAR present. Add to that the Saka penalty call which we have seen given on several occasions, and we can agree that it’s a fair result on the balance of things. If Arsenal got away with one, so did Bayern with 1-2 decisions.
When the pass goes to the goalies in open play and he picks it up, then it’s a indirect. Not if the goalie passes to his defender and he picks it up. Its handball every day of the week
Im with Steve on this one... Rules are Rules!!! its a clear Penalty and nothing else. Cant believe that some "Experts" say it was the right Decision by the Ref.

@jascha2765 You need to understand that the literal laws of the game are never followed by referees in any match. And they are required to officiate within the spirit of the game. I.E.-Common sense officiating to keep the game flowing and the referees out of the way as much as possible. The referee made the right decision.
It doesnt affect the game in any way just use common sense nobody cares about the letter of the law… thats why we have human refs and not AI robots to make those decision
“Would you really want to go through to the semi finals based on this?” This statement alone shows how little Gab truly knows about the game and the people that play it lmao
"There's no advantage" But there is, because another ref might (correctly) give it. If there is to be consistency in the game, surely it has to be consistent application of the rules, not simply faith that every ref will decide it's not a big deal.
Think raya & gabriel needs to stop that reset, i am an arsenal fan and ive seen this exact reset play for goal kick btw them over 14 times.... They've fallen into that habit which wld now be scrutinised
Gab talking about common sense…I bet if it was a Barca defender who touched the ball with their hands like that, Gab would be complaining about the ref and saying they are unprofessional or whatever.
By that logic if a defender slides in from behind unintentionally and breaks his opponent’s leg it should not be a red card because he didn’t mean to do it regardless if it was reckless or not?
Gab hit the nail on the head at the end perfectly. Van Persie did not hear the whistle and kicked the ball away was unjustly given a red card, so Gabriel did not hear the whistle and should have been rightly and justly given a penalty? Make that make sense.
To say that one club paid the refs to get advantage while other clubs were just lucky to get it is really dumb. Watch any CL campaign and you'll see mistakes and teams getting advantages. Last season milan got it, before that i can remember real madrid getting it against bayern twice before that someone else.
Not hearing the whistle would not be an excuse for Gabriel, since usually refs don't whistle before a goal kick. Only reason the ref did was because the match was interrupted before because of a substitution. So when Raya plays the ball, like he did all the times before, Gabriel should never have thought he can use his hands to touch the ball. It was a true brain fart, like they rarely happens at that level, and like they very rarely are not punished.

Like all of us, Gab says stupid things sometimes, like saying Harry Kane shouldn't go to Bayern, because trophies don't matter to players, this one takes the cake.
Stevie is 100% correct you can intentionally injure player who is one on one with the keeper and say he took it for the team but a penalty is not given because its against spirit of the game lol😂
Gab is ridiculous. What about if a defender passes the ball back to the goalie under no pressure and the ball rolls under his foot into the goal. Would that not count because it’s a silly goal and the game shouldn’t be decided by a stupid mistake? Ridiculous
Stevie couldnt be more right. Clear penalty. Whistle was blown, ball was played. This is pro soccer at an elite level, mistakes like that cant be allowed to pass over.
