I was hanging around with Paul Johnson around 2015 in DTLA, who wrote the guitar lines at at age 15 with the Belairs. We'd go for walks and talk, we both had apartments within a few minutes. He'd been through a few medical issues but always in good spirits. He would tell me, "Hey, they just paid me to go to Italy for a week!" And he would come over and visit with his -white Stratocaster. I miss him. Thanks for this great piece of video!
Such treasure!! So many of the greats from the 60s are leaving us, and all we have left are a few video clips . As a Canadian videos like this would never have reached us if it hadn't been for the internet and RU-vid. Thanks so much for posting!
Cool how Johnson nods approval at Hunt's rhythm playing. Then, half way through, he seems to notice that the rhythm is flagging. He appears to give the younger dude an opportunity to wrap it up, but the song continues. Hunt soldiers through to the end, but kind of gives up before the last bars. I've been caught out like this many times. That kind of rhythm requires a solid warm-up routine before you start!
