Vice President Paul Mashatile has been in the crosshairs of late - not least of all because his VIP Protection officers assaulted unarmed civilians. BizNews now takes a look at his ascendency to power. Veteran Gauteng Democratic Alliance (DA) politician Jack Bloom gives his take on Mashatile’s talent as an “internal” politician, his lack of “external” political achievement, his ambitious climb of the rungs of power, as well as the persistent allegations about his lavish lifestyle, his “fishy” associates, and the ‘Alex Mafia’. It’s truly disheartening! Gayton sounds like a decent choice but he has a criminal history and stated during a recent interview that he is running for the highest position in SA, “To attain power “. There should be better reasons to run for office. One primarily is to better off the condition of the masses. Secondly, to improve the systems ( Healthcare, Housing,Education, Penitentiary and Social), infrastructure, teen pregnancy, employment, etc.

A friend/acquaintance (who'd done time on 'the island') explained how he'd decided to chuck the anc while working in Gauteng govt, when he pointed out to Mashatile that some of his transactions were questionable ... What floats to the top...🙄

I've met two ex MK veterans. One joined the SAPS having been trained by the Russians and East Germans in policing. He was stationed at Jan Smuts. When he queried certain appointments he was transferred. The other used to be based in Swaziland getting people and materiel across the border. His constant refrain when I met him was "Nelson and the forty thieves". He emigrated to Australia. Refused to come back to South Africa.

I appreciate Mr Bloom's evaluation of Mr Mashatile. Mr Bloom, however, made a statement, which, to my mind indicate the split between DA and the rest of the country, and the split between black and white South Africans and another growing global split. He said that Mr Mashatile's fishy kind of associates, tenders and expensive dinners would have been disqualifying in another democracy... Now...I bet my only Krugerrand that Mr Bloom is thinking of America, Britain and Australia as the other democracies where fishy tenders, associates and expensive dinners are disqualifying factors. Could he be thinking of Boris Johnson, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, Hilary, Trump, Netanyahu...? This hidden mindset of idealogical moral superiority always jumps out somewhere. It illustrates the great divide: 85% of non western countries are sick of the superor delusions of the 13% minority in the west. Period. I don't appreciate Mr Bloom's take on working democracies. Its a delusion.

Oh yes. Much better. Apartheid was just inhuman. It's a great evil. Like Nazi evil. Imagine 90% of the population was excluded from even the basics like water and electricity. The country was dark hey. Only the whites had it all. The government might be corrupt and all but nothing will ever equate to those horrors. We have a shameful(white)and painful(black) past. And yet we don't want to acknowledge it. Keep in mind that the oppressor is usually the inferior 1. All we have to do is finish off what Mandela started. We have the political freedom. Now we have to get the economic freedom(land back from the perpetrators).
