They were going to use him in their Magical Mystery Tour film, and Paul was asked if they would do the Monterey Pop Festival. Paul said no, but there's this really great Black American guitarist you should put on the bill. That's how Jimi got known in the U.S. The Beatles knew how to behave like real leaders!
And that gig where Jimi opened Sgt Peppers was the farewell gig with Jimi leaving to the US. He knew who would be in the audience, this was his "thank you" for arranging the Monterey appearance.
@@chalchotepaanilaa5293 I just imagine how Helter Skelter might have sounded like with John, Paul , George and Ringo and it gives me shivers down my spine. 😁
True but not in Hendrix class. That's why (mostly) Clapton, but both Beck and Page also covered some of the most difficult stuff on Beatles and solo work.
@@discernment8963 Haha none of that is true. No single outsider ever played guitar on a Beatles track except for Clapton, who was invited to play on While My Guitar Gently Weeps, mostly cause he and George were getting to be close friends. Also, the other members of the band weren't taking George's work very seriously, so he thought they would probably up their game with Clapton in the studio.
@@kantarelljulletjolahopp5607 You indoctrinated fanboys (if indeed you're a boy) need to do more than "fashionable" research. Or choose to stay in denial if that's all that works for you.....
@@discernment8963 I'm simply a musician with big ears who's read a great deal of books on the recording sessions of the Beatles. I would have known without having read the books since, as I said, I'm a trained musician. It's not hard to tell the difference between Harrison, Clapton, Beck, and Page.
Lots of different perceptions in the comments based on perceptions, Jimi came along like a comet and before we had blinked he was gone his legacy and influence will last forever he was doing things no one had ever done before that are taken as standard today, without Jimi, there would be no SRV, Frusciante, EVH, Nile Rodgers, Trower and many many more.
Pretty poignant when Eric slips in-“part of my growing up.” I hadn’t considered that Eric was a kid as well when Jimi hit the scene. He sees him less as “the guitar god” and more a part of the history and fabric of his own life, his then young life. That’s cool. What a privilege, indeed.
Paul McCartney and Beatles,Bob Dylan and The band ,Elton John,KennyG and the backgrounds, many many ,we gave them extremely applause, any time,in no circumstances
Stephen Stills played my favorite recorded Wah Wah solo of all time on Carry On/ Questions. Stills could play any guitar and make it sound great: Archtop (Wooden Ships), Martin Steel String, Solid body electric. Amazing musician!
@@johnschilling3652 Without question! If a player knows only 3 chords, but he puts them together in a way that's pleasing to your sensibilities, FANTASTIC! I was talking about technical capabilities, and those who've got the highest capacity of it. The reality of things is all.
Rory Gallagher, u should check him out Jimi hendrix once said he considers Rory to be better than he is, And he had a huge influence on Brian May and Jimmy page
Hendrix was the Most Innovative publicly at the time similar to EVH a decade later. I think it's ridiculous when people throw out there he was "Head n Shoulders" above players like Gallagher, Beck, Winter, Zappa etc as far as capabilities. That's just ignorance. Had Buddy Holly not been killed I've always believed some of that innovation would've come somewhat sooner to.
A lot of the comments are anti-Clapton. Kind of interesting. Does the animosity stem from his racist comments of the past, or is it really about a lack of musicianship?
Does anyone not care that Eric is so talented and technical great? Give me the one note with feeling of Neil Young any day. I like a great songwriter - Dylan, Young, early Costello before he was a crooner, Graham Parker, Paul Westerberg with the Replacements. I liked Eric some with the Yardbirds, great with Cream, boring on his own whatever Blvd. Delaney and Bonnie, OK, but I don't get the love for him. Do you want a perfect guitarist or a Picasso who paints outside the lines? I know none of you understand this at all. I really don't think Picasso is great either, but I am short of examples.
Well phrased, I understand and agree completely! I was about 16 when 461 Ocean Blvd came out, which is 1 of but far from the only project EC did some coasting on.
@@discernment8963 Yeah Lay down Eric, no need to work so hard .. It does means something to me what kind of music a guitarist likes, well if it is demonstrated in his playing or songs he plays, and it was too bluesy or bland for me. Someone like the guitarist in Behind the Wall of Sleep for the Smithereens or Becks little solo in Heart full of Soul is so much better. Other than that and his Rod Stewart thing with People Get Ready, I hate Jeff Beck's technical prowess. lol.
@@oppothumbs1 Lay down Sally and poppy, simple shit like that is precisely what I'm eluding to when I mention EC's coasting. Now possibly I'm reading it wrong, but believed since his Yardbirds days Beck's the technically best guitarist out of that band and good a rock guitarist as has ever existed.
@@TheCidiot Sure a good point, true of many . But Eric would never be in my top 20 guitarist even though he was great in Cream I didn't think they did enough great songs. I like Badge so I hope he wrote that before Jimi died ha . I also thought Hendrix was going downhill playing more roots or blues and playing with Buddy Miles, most wouldn't agree I suppose that Electriclady was too long. Jimi's first two records were genius (Purple Haze, Fire, Wind Cries Mary, Little Wing, and I even like "You got me Floating" which he did with The Move. Elect Lady was too much guitar prowess and too long and can I say not that catchy? Sometimes I like a great guitar by an unknown .. What is C-idiot? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h6lxWbijgSs.html go to 10:20 on the song Hanging Out and for a minute you'll hear I hope a great sounding guitar.
In my humble opinion, Clapton was always jealous of Jimmy because people made him believe that he was "the God of guitar ", but that was just because in those days the world was not well communicated, so people just used to see and listen to what they got at hand, but there's always been great musicians besides the "iconic" ones, and Clapton always new that, snd the same happened when he met SRV, cause he can't stand better musicians than him, and believe me, there are lots of great guitar players way better than Clapton. I'm not a hater, just set my point. Anyway, what matters is to listen to great musicians playing great music.
@@JohnnyCameo Well, Camilla, that's because you didn't know who were the real stars of the day, that Paul hung out with. The only other Pete was Frampton. That was too early for him, probably still in The Herd. No disrespect to him, but they weren't in the same building. There was also Eric Burdon ...
In as much as Neil wrote some iconic tunes that are absolutely RnR classics, your statement's 100% fact. There was only a small handful of players in those days that capable on the Fretboard, and Neil wasn't close to being 1 of them, which I believe he'd be the 1st to admit. Nor did his music demand it.
@@3155DOGMAN Nice relating to somebody who gets it. My intention isn't to put anyone down, I'm just honestly stating capability levels. For example, Starr and Watts were proficient for what they needed to do, but nobody's going to ever confuse them with Baker, Moon, or Bonham etc..
When our ears hear really loud sounds our hearing partialy and temporarily shuts down to prevent damage and the acid also had something to do with him being out of tune sometime . He also tortured his strats pretty bad like twisting the guitar neck and humping it on his knees . I have over 60 of Hendrix's albums and only a small percentage have him playing out of tune .
There is NO bigger Rory fan than me,i saw him 8 times ,he is my all time favorite rock guitar player but seriously, you sound like an idiot, just saying...thank you for your time...
