Interview recorded for Facebook LIVE with Paul, Ringo & Ron Howard from Abbey Road Studios answering your questions about The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years. Thanks to everyone who submitted a question.
John Lennon once said that even if there never were The Beatles Ringo would have been famous any way. He said he just had that kind of personality. I believe that to be true.
But Paul said then when ever one of them would let being famous go to their head and start believing they were gods, they looked at Ringo and laughed ... and realised, nah .... we are just mortal men.
I caught that also. Ringo knows how sensitive Paulie can be and it was an absolutely class act, caring gesture, from a friend and all-around great guy. Ringo's, top of the heap quality; bar none.
What's her name? She's great! I would have been too thrilled and excited to keep cool. I'd probably talk too fast and be hard to understand. More similar to the Chris Farley skit on SNL.
Saw those boys back in the day on a small black and white television. The Ed Sullivan Show. I was in 6th grade. The school was rocking off the foundation the next day. Been a huge fan since. Never will be a band like that again. Literally a miracle those boys came together in space and time to change us forever.
I, too, was in the 6th grade when they first appeared on Sullivan. I don't remember anything about school the next day, but I do remember my Dad getting pissed because I was on the floor right in front of the TV when they came on, and I started screaming and crying, and my Dad said, "If you don't stop that, I'll turn it off!" I am so grateful that I grew up during that time. It was such a fantastic joy to look forward to each new single and album, and then to feel the excitement to hear a new song on the radio; to save up my allowance and then wait in line at the record store on the days (or the week) of new releases......... There just are not enough words to describe how much joy they brought to my life, and to the world, at a time when we really needed some joy! I often think that even they, themselves, could never really understand what it was like for the world of Beatles Fans, because they (The Beatles) just could never have that perspective. There is a scene in "Close Encounters....." when the French scientist is trying to explain to the Military brass why the people who came against all odds to witness the arrival, have the right to be there. The dialog goes: Laughlin: [translating for Lacombe] I believe that for everyone of these anxious, anguished people who have come here this evening, there must be hundreds of others also touched by the implanted vision who never made it this far. It's simply because they never watched the television. Or perhaps they watched it, but never made the psychic connection. Walsh (military brass): It's a coincidence. It's not scientific. Lacombe: Listen to me, Major Walsh, it is an event sociological. That is what it was with The Beatles. :)
Bill Taylor ditto. I too was a sixth grader. sometimes we'd sing them in the echo chamber bathroom, which made us feel grand while our singing was small
Even if "the real Paul" had died in 1966, this one after 50 years "impersonating" him should be the official one by now, right? After all, this one wrote Sgt. Pepper, Hey Jude, Back in the USSR, Let it Be...not bad for a clone... ;-)
So amazing what happened to them. People that weren’t around back then can simply never understand what it was like. Music in the 60’s just exploded and most of us were too young to realize how exceptional it was. What an amazing time to live. I miss the world we had back then.
Hi. I was born in 1938. Seen many generations in my time. I think the 90s kid had the best upbringing. Souch available tech wise, but still able to enjoy the outside world.
i started a beatles band age11 playing so young fixed one of my disabled hands (so i can move the main joints on my left now) 40 years on ive taurt 2 that became natonal champions, won a comp to have a cd releast, surported the real rocky horrow show uk 1984tour i went on first and got over 1k people singing,on a watever k rig pa that when i sang i filled the hall,,almost menories of being a beatle,or to touch on the feeling,,no i never got the fame, but i got the music,a daughter who was natonal champion at singing, and a granddaughter thats written serious songs since age3 and played guitar 3 years now shes8,,,music is the greatest give behind love and peace,,stu
Ringo was so crucial to the band, I feel like a lot of casual fans never realize that. You can see it in this interview: he kept things light, and they needed that, since McCartney, Lennon, and Harrison (the later in particular) could get very heavy.
his is the best movie I have ever seen.I rate it number 1 ahead of silence of the lambs. It is just shear exhilaration experiencing The Beatles playing live in clear digital format audio and video. I saw it at a sold out theatre in York England. The only criticism I have is they only allowed it for 1 night at the Major Cinema chains. The smaller independent art house cinemas were allowed to show it for a few weeks.Looking forward to buying the movie on Blu Ray and Dvd for my family as a present went it is released later this year. Sure to be one of the best selling DVD's of all time when it come out. Just buy it .The Beatles are up there with Beethoven,Bach,Mozart,Chopin,Schubert,Wagner,Brahms,Stravinsky,Listzt,Rachmaninoff.Sheer perfection.
This interviewer might be the best, least-affected, most professional, most prepared, most astute, greatest-listening , never interrupting, never about herself, non ego-driven interviewer I've ever seen. 10 out of 10, great job, you could not have done better. We're very thankful!
Speaking as a (now 70- something) USA citizen: Because the early Beatles made such a cheerful, melodic, splash so soon after the shocking assassination of our very beloved young President Kennedy... their joyfilled high energies immediately lifted us baby boomers (of tens of millions of teens and preteens) out of a depression that surely would have negatively impacted the USA.
It feels like something inside me died when John and George were gone, I hope Paul and Ringo stay healthy and happy for a long time, and may God bless them forever
+Stu Art. In terms of America, I'm intrigued by the political ticket that the interviewer herself suggests at 10:48 - "Ron Paul" and "Ringo". It'd be like, "Peace, Love, and... Limited Government". 👍

@@Rubarb51 Mr.Rubarb51, respectfully I say to you' Your out of your mind. can't you see the writing on the wall? Billy shears is Paul McCartney. He's the real mccoy. He Always was. Remember the old adage' Believe half of what you see and none of what you read.
Fun fact: There is a picture out there of young Julian and John posing with the cast of Happy Days back in the 70's. Ron Howard met at least 3 whole Beatles in his life. Wow!
If there was any doubt that the Beatles are the coolest bands ever, just look at them. In their 70's, they're lively, dressed just fresh enough without looking thirsty, completely aware of their place in history while being self deprecating.
I remember back then that John and Paul were like Lewis and Clark; they would go exploring and every day seemed like they added to their map. Then George jumped into the songwriting, and Ringo always played that unique beat. It's hard to explain what leaps the Beatles took, almost on a weekly basis. What a time it was...
When Paul says ... "I was in the Beatles, he was in the Beatles : we are .... " and then tails off because he remembers they're not all there. Oh my... A great little band. :-)
I always thought Ringo was the glue that held the guys together. Post-Beatles, Ringo was the happy and easy-going friend, that the other guys could talk to and be heard. Ringo is an amazing photographer too.☮❤
Ringo is so awesome, love his sense of humor and the way he shares his memories.I bet if Paul handed Ringo some drum sticks he'd be ready to Rock in a heartbeat!
i remember listening on a transistor radio in 1963 to "she loves you" while i was suppossed to be doing homework , now fast forward 50 yrs, never dreamed of the internet, youtube, computers....etc.... mind boggling when i think of it
The reason I studied english was to be able to "know" their songs. This movie is perfect, reflects everything Beatles, their music, the times, the legacy. Thanks sooo much John, George, Paul and Ringo, and Ron of course. As I was reading the comments and through my tears I saw "John and George took the day off" , it is so true, love them, miss them, the four together, they changed my life in a positive way.
Hello 👋how is the pandemic going over there? I'm delighted to meet you here. Where originally are you watching from? I'm Patrick Corey from California USA
I’m 36 and I’m coming to realize the significance of The Beatles. I was a fan as a kid. But mostly of the music from these touring years. Now that I’m getting into Abbey Road and The White Album I’m just blown away. These guys did everything first. Everybody looked to them for how to act and how to sound. I’m just now understanding the line from Oliver Stone’s movie The Doors, “C’mon Jim, The Beatles did it.” Edit: as a kid that wanted to bang on pots and pans, I never realized how significant Ringo actually was either.
They were well known for their sense of humour and making fun of each other. One of the best examples - if you haven't seen this whole sketch then it is funny! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NW12S4-KB1I.html
I'm sure there are very few people who get the pleasure of geniunely teasing Paulie. Ringo, certainly has earned that right and vice versa. You can see the love between them. True family.
Great interview. I love when Ringo shakes it up with Paul and they still have the love for each other's humor. Ron is right on board too. His honesty for the movie makes me believe in me as a kid like Opie again!
My mother came over from Birmingham England 4 years before The Beatles first hit America. She totally turned me on to the group. I was born in 59 so I remember them playing on Ed Sullivan show. I think I was totally a fan from the start. I know it was exciting for my Mom. And we both to this day are fans for life!!!
A friend of mine told me,about 5 yrs.ago, that his son (15 yrs.old at the time)had started listening to The Beatles big time and asked me why every generation discovers The Beatles. My reply, good music is good music and Beatles music is THE ULTMATE in pop/rock!!!UNTOUCHABLE!!!
Amen! Their less than acclaimed songs would STAR in most other top bands’ repertoire. Four blokes from Liverpool made their collective creations highlight millions of others’ youth and entire lives. And the love, peace and happiness that permeates their work became part of us too.
That would be sick!!! Imagine all the stuff we could get. We could actually get to hear rare studio sessions throughout the Sgt Pepper era, never before seen interviews, and maybe some rare footage of them recording if there is any
Look up on google----global truth project----click The Present. It answers all of life’s biggest questions and can turn this world right side up from the beginning of it. Nothing is more important than reading it.
I saw these guys in concert, on my 9th b-day It was in Portland OR on 22 Aug 1965 they played for 35 mins, but it seemed longer The Help album was released 2 wks before, I remember them singing Help and A Hard Day's Night It was the best place to be on the planet
They had an unbelievable schedule. Sometimes they wrote a new song in the plane on a flight from a concert and back home they recorded the new song in 3 hours. Whole albums were recorded in 3 days. They wrote Hard Days Night on demand in just one night. And they were a real tight band thanks to all that shows they had played in Hamburg and Liverpool. No other band and no songwriters came close.
It's amazing to me that the tabloid press recently tried to say that Ringo went off the wagon and had to go back to rehab. Clearly, Ringo is the absolute picture of health and serenity!
those 4 lads from liverpool were like 4 lightning strikes in one bottle..their songwriting ability, musicianship, and harmonies hv never been matched..they were also rescuers.unintentionally..they came to the u.s. on the heels of the jfk assination..our country was deep in mourning..adults of course and the young ppl saw mom and dad so sad.which made them sad..the beatles were like as if the sun came out after a terrible storm..their songs, charm and goodness made ppl happy again..they rescued many adolecents who struggle in those difficult young yrs..me included..you feeling down? put on the beatles! "help, i need someone, HELP!"and 10000 other great songs!
I think everybody has to admit what was really incredible was that they would make a fantastic song then another then another then another and it never stopped .
When I was 11 years old, my sister gave me a 1963 Kay guitar that my mother bought her because she wanted one but when she heard me trying to play it, she gave it to me. It was The Beatles that got me into music. All by ear. At 62, I can hardly read music but if I can see a few chords, I can catch on. Lately I've been watching some of the riffs which have been helping me figure out different ways to play & now i'm doing good. I bought a Fender Bass with a Fender Amp for my grandson's girlfriends 13 year old sister. All I said was just keep going. Don't stop playing for anyone & since I have about 16 guitars, I told her I'll give her one of my favorites so she can expand her playing. Hey, freely given to me, so I'm freely giving to someone else. Thanks to the Beatles!!!
I saw this film when in Madrid and absolutely loved it. It was a packed house, with subtitles in Spanish - and the whole audience was totally absorbed in it and clapped like crazy when it was over. Goes to show you, music is a universal language!
I was 13 in 1964. I'm so glad I was the right age at the right time when Beatlmania exploded in the US. What an electrifying time. It's been 60 years now and this type of musical excitement and will never again be repeated. I feel so lucky.
Even while John and George were both still alive, I never had a deep burning desire to see the Beatles reunite; they probably would've been unable to recapture the musical magic they had back in the 60s.
I'm always speechless whenever anyone utters those words,it just does not compute with me that somebody might NOT love the Beatles.every single artist of note and millions of unknown musicians took their lead from them in some way.when Ozzy,Jeff Lynne,Dave Grohl,Ian Gillan,Rod Stewart,David Bowie,Brian Wilson (and many many more) name The Beatles as their favourite band and most are in awe of them, then that'll do for me.
Right Lisa...Ringo, who gets lots of royalties, mentioned they pick up new fans every decade, so they continue to grow in popularity. Their music is unmatched and will remain incredible and exciting to hear.
ty ron howard for giving this more of the beatles my kids will love of the early songs they love the 67-68 period ive been trying to get them into the early times the chaos may excite them now like it did me when I was young
I just never tire of finding and learning whatever I can from these guys, anything and everything about them is always new to me, even 50 years after I first knew about them. They just keep getting better every day, The Beatles legacy will outlive us all. Blessings from San Juan PR !!!
Such a great filkm. Sounds amazing. The live stuff is mind blowing. They really rocked in concert. They were so much more than we realized growing up. They were heavy for such an early time.
I saw the film last week & one of the great things about it was that Ron Howard edited the sound so that the screaming was turned down while the music was turned up. You could actually hear them play & interact, and with glorious digital quality. I really hope they release the soundtrack because the change made a world of difference listening to them live.
This is a really great movie/documentary that should be seen by every Beatles fan, and all younger generations to get a real sense of what all the excitement was about. The excitement was real, they were huge(are) it became Beatlemania and the music is still alive and VERY well!
@@tracymiller1149 nope no Botox, he's very strict about his diet and has overcome alcoholism and I don't think he did the drugs like the other three Plus Ringo has been married to his wife Barbara Bach too for years she helped him out too she was his strength. It is very important to have an emotional partner who is stable. It works both ways ✌️🕊️☮️ Peace and 💕
Great interview. Love Paul and Ringo's honest enthusiasm about the documentary and the past. Looking forward to seeing the documentary. Watched the Shea Stadium footage on Book. Incredible!
