Single Pigeon is clear and clean of the final instrumentation. What a recording from a song writing genus. One of his best. Red Rose Speedway era has so many great tunes and just ahead of magnificent Band on the Run. Thanks for posting.

The first time I heard this album it was on an 8 track tape. I was 18. The first song I heard when I popped in the tape was Big Barn Bed. It was 1973. I was knocked out. To this day, one of my favorite McCartney songs.

Wow, this version of Red Rose Speedway has so much depth and feeling to it! I think this shows that Paul's weakness is not knowing sometimes when he had something good and when it is, to leave things alone. He's a victim of his own perfectionism.

Leonard Caplan -- Believe it or not but EMI told Paul that Red Rose Speedway was a weak 2 album set and Paul changed it to one album. That was reported in Peter Doggets book, "You never give me your Money." I don't know if this was how it was intended to be but its pretty good if it was.

RRS was an underrated Wings album, remembered primarily for the inclusion of "My Love", the big hit single. From what I understand, it was originally supposed to be a double album, as there was lots of material recorded during the sessions. Some of the outtakes came out as B-sides of singles ("I Lie Around", "Country Dreamer", "The Mess"). Others were intended for the as-yet unreleased "Cold Cuts" compilation (widely bootlegged). This was the first post-Beatles album I owned, so it has a special place in my heart. Hopefully this will get the deluxe re-release soon, with all the outtakes!

If he would have just released this I'm sure more people wouldn't have laughed at him back then. Paul has a way of over polishing things. I'm sure he has a good therapist now though. :)

Remember at that time the so called music expert and music press clobbered him and everything he produced with sadistic glee. The savage way they trashed the music and singing he put his heart and soul in would have made Mozart and Beethoven run screaming for the hills had they received such brutal notices as if they wanted to drive him out of the business. But McCartney was born and put on this earth to make music, it's part of his dna. Thank God he kept doing what he does best so we music lovers can appreciate and enjoy to the utmost. I'll never take this man or his music for granted after all he's been put through.

At the very least Paul's being skittish at releasing singles was certainly understandable in the context of the time period.

Red Rose Speedway is a great album, and I love it the way it is better tbh :), though this is for sure an interesting listen.

Philthe Stalker I think they just gave him a hard time for anything he did in those days. Remember, the McCartney album was pretty bare bones, unpolished, and they still criticized him for it.
