Even if I liked Denny Laine with Wings, I am not impressed at all by this stuff. I am even surprised that people speak of a "gem". Laine and McCartney have made music that is a lot more worth to listen to. It could be forgotten.
Denny laine, Paul & Linda McCartney - Holly Days (Full Album) - Holly Days is the second album by guitarist Denny Laine, released in 1977. It was recorded by him with fellow Wings members Paul and Linda McCartney. The album is a tribute to singer-songwriter Buddy Holly and comprises eleven cover versions of songs by Holly, most of them lesser-known.On the four-track recorder Paul McCartney laid down the basic tracks, overdubbing each instrumental himself. Denny Laine and Linda McCartney added some instrumental parts and all three joined in on the vocals; Denny singing lead and Paul and Linda harmonising.[2] Paul, via MPL Communications, had recently bought the publishing rights to Holly's catalogue,[3] and - Laine told the press at the time - it was McCartney's father-in-law, John Eastman, who suggested Laine to record the album.[4] Due to the rudimentary recording methods used to capture the "Buddy Holly style", only tracks 2 and 3 are actually in stereo. A supplication for a complete and sure recovery from the Corona virus, written by the true savior of mankind, the expected Imam Mahdi, Nasser Muhammad Al-Yemeni “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.” And after the repentance let each one of them say: “O Allah I am Your servant, I ask you by virtue of the fact that there is no God but You, and by virtue of the fact of Your Mercy which you have decreed upon Yourself, and by the virtue of the fact of the greatness of Your Pleasure within, which is greater than the pleasure of your heaven, to cure me of the torment of Corona or to turn it away from me as I am a believer in the caller to the truth from You. O Allah, remove Your torment from us from whichever direction it comes from, so that we follow the path of the truth from You. And strengthen us to fulfil what we have promised you, O you who intervene between a man and his heart, as we only have Your mercy, You have decreed upon Yourself. If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers. O Allah You have said in the clear verses of Your book (وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدۡعُونِیۤ أَسۡتَجِبۡ لَكُمۡۚ ) {And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.} [Shurah: 40 - Ghafir - Verse: 60] So the Dua'a (supplication) and the repentance is from me, and the response is from You and You do not break Your promise. Exalted You are our Lord, your promise is true and you are the Most Merciful. O Allah give us the strength to fulfil what we have promised You to follow the global caller to Allah, the caliph of Allah on Earth the Imam Mahdi Nasser Mohammed Al-Yamani. O Allah, make the raising of him a blessing upon us and not a misery upon us because of our turning away from the call to the truth of the Imam Mahdi Nasser Mohammed Al-Yemeni”. 19 - 05 - 2020 .. د
This album also shows how important musical playmates Denny and Paul (and Linda) were for so many years.... In fact the 3 had a very special thing together... Very interesting on all levels....
This is simply GREAT...... Great vibe great songs and fun arrangements..... Great lead vocals and as always multi instruments by Denny.... Great harmonies and musical inspiration by Paul and Linda.... Totally overlooked gem.... With some more promotion this would have made a mu h larger impact.... The songs suits really Denny so well....
I think Paul should remaster this record, for the fact that it's mostly by him, and because there is some intresting stuff going on in it. The first four tracks are really good, with those drum machines they were still kind of unusual and maybe innovative for 1976. The last two tracks are also particularly enjoyable. Wonder why Paul didn't release this record under the name "Wings", since it features the three core members of the group.
Denny did the singing because Paul, as the producer, felt Denny had a better voice to represent Holly. Yes, it has all three, but at the time, Paul was giving Denny more recognition.
All the haters don't get this album. It was never intended to be a high resolution masterpiece. Having been a Buddy Holly fan forever this record really captures the charm and vibe of those old records. As a musician I consider this what playing music is all about. Having a great time and making happy sounds. There is nothing to think about here.
Wow! That's so sweet of you to say Phy🤠, didn't expect to get such a beautiful comment from you. So I thank you so much for being such an amazing fan of my music🙏🤠. I hope you never stop being a fan and also stop listening to my songs🎶. Well could you kindly tell me how long you've been a fan my music???
Paul is all over this. Nice but a lot of it is kind of boring. Play Buddy’s originals. These just don’t have any zip! Buddy was full of energy and enthusiasm when he sang! Was that the cover and back of the sleeve? If so that is horrible!
1) Heartbeat is HORRIBLE 2) Rave On is HORRIBLE 3) I'm Gonna Love You Too is HORRIBLE 4) Its So Easy is HORRIBLE 5) Look At Me is HORRIBLE. Lets Face it, the Album SUCKS and is an embarrassment when compared to the original Buddy Holly versions. McCartney is so over-rated. This album is pure Garbage. Holly must be rolling over in his grave.
I didn't realize Denny Laine had such a nice voice. I mean he did good jobs on "Go Now" and the few Wings songs he sang, but he sounds really good here. Also, the sound of Moondreams reminds me of the Hollies' "Air That I Breath".
Wow! That's so sweet of you to say Vinny🤠, didn't expect to get such a beautiful comment from you. So I thank you so much for being such an amazing fan of my music🙏🤠. I hope you never stop being a fan and also stop listening to my songs🎶. Well could you kindly tell me how long you've been a fan my music???
@dennylaine8735 I also love Moondreams! It might be my favorite of the album. But I have a question, why isn't the orchestral arranger credited in this album for this song? Who was involved in that aspect of the song?
Love Denny and Wings but this is the laziest "album" ever made. Not a single original song, it's full of drum machines, was probably produced in 15 minutes altogether, and the sessions were probably 90% pot smoking with the McCartneys and 10% actual music...
