He was right; there wasn't a chapter called "getting away". There was a chapter called "The Civil War" though, in which hundreds of thousands of white men died fighting to end slavery. And thank God for that. Black people are not free bc they "got away", they are free bc of the sacrifices and blood spilled by both black and white men who fought to end the grave injustice of slavery
Seth Stine Let’s get this str8 though the north was not trying to end slavery because they thought it was injustice because after slavery blk did not get the same rights and treatment as white people. Plus the north wanted to end slavery because it was an economic foothold for the south. Remember the south was trying to leave the union and slavery made is economically possible for them to do so. Slavery was economically lucrative for the south and the north did not want that and so they wanted to get rid of it.
Seth Stine You didn’t read and understand what I wrote. The north did not end slavery due to the conditions and treatment of black ppl. Because after the civil war blk ppl were still treated like crap and not having the same rights as their white counter parts. They wanted slavery gone due to being an economic stronghold in the south. Slavery made the south an economic power house to substain itself. And to talk about the Emancipation proclaimation it wasn’t a law that could go into immediate affect, it was an announcement so if you lived going towards the Midwest, guess what you still were a slave until the announcement got to you. Of course blk ppl fought for their freedom, that goes without saying. Blk ppl have been fighting for their freedom before the civil war. All you have to do is google slave revolts. As far as slavery ending after the civil war, it just changed forms like the chain-gang and something that my family is familiar with which is share cropping, where you stay on the land and do majority of the work and get paid pennies on the dollar.

Anyone who would go up at beg Mooney’s approval like that after a set is probably already self-loathing. He didn’t make you feel guilty, he made some really funny jokes. You already felt guilty because you know underneath his humor is some truth, and those people wish to deny that truth and say “you’re just kidding right?” To make themselves feel better and absolve their guilt. Mooney sees this and won’t play their game and just lets them dig themselves a deeper hole.
One thing he overlooks....The crows are the only characters in Dumbo that believe in Dumbo and are sympathetic to him. Everyone else (except for Timothy Mouse), the white folks that run the circus, the other elephants, etc. all treat Dumbo like crap. The only characters who encourage him and try to build his confidence are the crows...but he is right about the caricatures being racist.
