Paul is like this perpetual inquisitive 10 year old boy that never grew up. Contagious enthusiasm, and glows brightest when he gets to talk about his interests. Bigger than life personality. A big dreamer that thankfully has surrounded himself with knowledgeable craftspeople. And we all benefit. What a cool conversation. And Dan and Mick you impressed him with your knowledge and use of gear. Kudos gents! Dan, good luck on your merchandising and marketing of the G3 now!
I am a fairly recent convert, the guitars are fantastic. In my experience, looking at the three that I have now, have the most consistent high quality construction and setup that I have seen on the market so far.
The thing with PRS is that it’s the one big brand I really trust that the guy who owns it loves it or he wouldn’t let it be released with his name on. There’s a lot to be said for that
Try playing on a Custom SE. It will change your mind fast. The intonation is unlike anything I've ever played. They're priced extremely well and the neck plays better than any guitar that I've ever picked up. The pickups have a fantastic sound when used with a crunch.
My favorite part of the video is when Paul geeked out over Dan’s G3 switcher. Wonderful to see such a great person like Dan get the recognition he deserves and how awesome it was as well to see Mick hyping up his friend. Love the videos guys :)

Absolutely love that Dan got some very vocal praise for his G3. It's a wonderful product, incredibly well engineered. Obviously loads of pros use GigRig products but it still feels like their stuff flies a bit under the radar.
I love Friday nights (Melbourne Australia) how after a hard days work, putting the kid to bed and having a glass of wine, I can curl up into bed with the headphones and rely on new episodes of TPS. Love you guys.

I adore Paul, but he's not always the easiest person to interview. This went incredibly well! Reminded me I need to upgrade my G2 to a G3, and I need to pick up one of those PRS compressors!

I've never been drawn to PRS but you can't deny that Paul is a super knowledgeable, passionate and ENTHUSIASTIC guy, whos made a unique mark on the guitar world. What a riot of episode 🤟
Totally agree. Paul's got a big heart and prodigious talent... but sometimes his mouth gets in the way. His next project should be to design a Speech-Filter. Love him really.
I recently picked up a Nitro CE24 precisely because of its unorthodox PRS aesthetics if it makes sense. No binding, no maple tops, unfinished satin nitro top, and a lightly tinted neck reminiscent of the best Fenders of yesteryear. A solid purchase for a US made instrument well under the 2k mark. For years I've associated PRS with blues lawyers, buttrock and what have you. But having played one, the craftmanship is surreal. The understated, workhorse appeal sealed the deal for me.
Leo built his (our) world on both his ear and his passion. I don’t know that the modern, corporatised industry has seen anyone combine those elements again since 1965. Thanks guys. Fantastic episode.
I first heard of PRS perhaps 25 years ago, but have never had the chance to play one. I'd never seen Paul in interview before, but wow - his infectious enthusiasm, and unbridled joy (and his great tones) have me really interested in the guitars now. He also seems like great fun and a really down to earth bloke that has a pure love for music and instruments. What a guy (and the silver sky as a gift, wow) Thank you Mick, Dan and Paul! 🙂

This is one of the best shows you guys have done. Amazing show. You were right when you said Paul just sounds like him - his playing is exactly what a PRS sounds like. You could talk to him for a week and he'd never run out of things to say (or finish a conversation). Love it.
Paul's tone early in the video, when he first plays, is pure Santana to me. I love Paul's observations of how players control tone with "chirping". His auditory skills are superb!
This could easily have been 6 hours. Talking Hardcore History level of engagement and captivation. Paul's enthusiasm and passion is openly visible and I love it.
A bit late to a 3 months old video but I had to tell you guys that I could't stop smiling watching the video. It is heart warming how two grown up man are giggling and trying to impress papa Weirdo. Also I love the picture of Mick an Paul - I met Paul several times at Musikmesse Frankfurt over the past 20 years and always had to take pictures of him with other people, I always said, "Next year I'm gonna ask him for a picture as well" and then they destroyed the Musikmesse and eventual discontinued it. But at least I can say I have met the man behind my most played guitars. It was always a pleasure to meet Paul, he has the unique ability to make you feel seen as an individual no matter how small your interaction with him is.
Paul is a genius, his opinions and observations about players and tone are fascinating. He puts a ton of thought and energy into his products and just doesn’t rubber stamp everything which is admirable.
As someone else mentioned, it isn’t hard chatting with Paul, is it? Passionate, full of stories, and ever inquisitive. I met Paul a few times in the early nineties, and he’s as passionate about chasing tone today as he’s always been. Love the guy.
Paul is a fascinating fellow, which I already knew, but I learned so much about the way he hears, and why I’ve sonically never got in with his guitars. Disparate ways of hearing are what makes music so great, whether it be fear designers, or audio engineers. God bless Paul, and you at TPS! Such a fun time for all!
This was such a great episode! So fun to see kindred spirits coming together with such passion amd enthusiasm. I bought an SE silver sky the moment one became available in my town despite having 4 strats already, and though i LOVE Fender and still use them with regularity, there is an undeniable quality and playability to the SS that is just magical. I can play anything on that guitar, and it's a testament to Paul's attention to detail and care to bring an 'affordable' instrument to that level. Love it!
Im a huge fan of Gibson and Fender but we have to all agree: We are all blessed to have Paul Reed Smith with us now. We are getting to hear from the man himself. Not to mention his spectacular guitars.
My prs is the guitar I pick up every single day, inspires me more than anything. Always a pleasure to hear him talk such a good video, intrigued by what's to come
not sure about that - he's a deterrent as a salesman to me. A lot of what he has to say is transparent BS, and he's out of touch with the market which he's trying to sell these pedals to. Don't care for a lot of his shtick - however he is a master builder and an historic legend. I'll let Tom Bukovac's playing his single pup / no fret marker, PRS, without promoting PRS do the selling for me. I'm not buying a pedal called "Horse Meat" I'm happy that he eluded to it being in relation to eating Klon Centaurs - rather than the other option - a crude counter to the Big Muff. Bad name - in a market full incredible options at that price point from pedal makers that have earned respect for come first in my regard
I have said it before and I will say it again. The day Dan connects with a sound and lets rip. It is some of the most inspiring and beautiful playing. Love seeing the "Dan Smile". Cheers gents

I just look at Paul as someone who really enjoys life and doesn't take everything so serious outside of making some of the best guitar equipment in history. I love his quirkyness!

Paul reminds me of that typically introverted coworker who's had a few at the company party. He's just having a good time and all of his comments are in good fun but he has no filter. It takes a little understanding to "get"him. I get him.
I can attest that the Starla being an amazing guitar. I have the old Core model and it’s the nicest playing guitar I e ever had. The best way to describe it is that it doesn’t fight you. Some people want their guitars to fight them. It’s meant to be easy to play.
Man, Paul is just a character who is larger than life right? I value so much his opinions and I feel like he's got so much great things to offer us as a community. He's truly fantastic and I'm sure I'll own one of his guitars one day - because he gives me that same vibe as Matt at Montys, an excitement to hear them both talk. So incredible I love how humble Paul is. His enthusiasm towards everything guitar is infectious! I have owned 4 Prs in my life. They have been my main guitars since I was a kid. I now have two that I love. And this makes me want a Pedal and another PRS. Thank you Mick And Dan for the great videos. I hope someday I can meet Paul, hello from Canada!
This was a great episode. Paul seems like a very genuine guy and I'm definitely going to get out there and try more PRS gear now. That HDRX amp sounds great as do all the pedals.

I give you Lads so much credit… Paul is, to put it delicately, not the easiest person to talk with, and you managed to keep him somewhat in check while being absolutely superb hosts. I often felt the need for a drink while watching out of stress from watching him wreak havoc. Love you guys.

Amazingly, I'd never seen footage of Paul before, and he was nothing like what I expected (someone a bit more bookish and studious). Not sure I'd want to be stuck next to him on a long-distance flight, but seems like you guys had a lot of fun.
Someone can just say. He seems a little annoying. At least on camera. When he is representing his company But I have owned several PRS guitars. And even the least expensive SE models are the best thought guitars I have ever owned. The company really does live up to the hype. I wish I had half the drive and ambition Paul has.
@@bwgti I agree. I have heard many people poo poo me for having SE models. But man they are excellent guitars. I have never been able to get the low action and perfect playability that I can when I do a setup on them. They literally just fall into a perfect setup with little effort. Super low action I can get on them. I do feel they lack the inherent “identifying tone” that Fender and Gibson have. But man for pure playability it’s hard to beat for the money in an SE model. I love them.

Amazing! So great to see a group of people passionate about the music, the tone, the SOUNDS, that these finely crafted instruments, amplifiers, and pedals can make. While it is certainly a business, as it needs to be to be able to get these awesome tools into the hands of as many musicians as are interested in using them to express their individual creativity, its the desire to make them truly remarkable, continuously and consistently, that is impressive and heart warming. Great video. Paul is such a character! Never really seen him interviewed before. Confident in his products yet still humble. Wish I still had my santana se...I'll be saving up if there's a humbucking single coil PRS guitar coming up..
After seeing several videos of Paul, here's what I've noticed. If you say this is a great guitar, he acts proud. If you say you built a great guitar, he will give the credit to his team. If you say you are a great guitar player, he gets super humble. He is a fascinating and unique character.
I remember him being 'interviewed' by Brett Kingman a few years ago and that was equally as chaotic and entertaining. Paul is a true character who may never tell you what you wanted to know but still imparts plenty of useful information. I don't think an episode of TPS has made me smile so much.
Why do i feel, this will be Dan's new Flanger pedal? They all sound great!!! And I'm happy he played your DGT, which is the guitar I use for live! Sounded killer!!!
Great show! I love to see how impressed Dan gets when innovative people come on the show, but I like the turn-around even more when people are impressed by the GigRig gear. Paul was amazed by the G3 and for good reason. My point is that what you've created, humbles a lot of important people. Well done!
What was unmentioned, but I think stands to be mentioned. But to me especially how Dan handled the sound, you drew the sound of PRS-era Alex Lifeson effortlessly out from that comp, flanger, od and amp (pair). Not sure if it was an accident, but if so a damn happy one!
I don’t like PRS guitars, I personally consider’em extremely overrated for the price they cost. BUT I have to admit that he’s a real genius, not only for the ridiculous amount of products he makes (he and his staff, of course) but for the knowledge and the passion he put in every single word he pronounce. Unbelievable. Absolutely beautiful episode! Compliments!!!❤
Felt like I just sat at the intersection of intellect, understanding and ability and listened to a captivating 1h 20m discussion. I so very much enjoyed this episode. A lot of laughs and then on the edge of my seat gleaning what I could from discussion. Paul's ears! What he hears, picks out, and the encyclopedia of research he is... just fascinating.
