Yes, like Burton Cummings, Michael McDonald, and David Clayton-Thomas; they're immediately recognizable for their uniqueness and seeming effortlessness.
Paul Revere & The Raiders were a band that did not try at the least bit to be serious with performing their music. They did not try to be meticulous with lip syncing as all other artists did and as was mostly the norm for any acts performing on TV. In fact they purposely did the opposite and went crazy in making fun of it and they got away with that. They had a lot of good hits in the 1960s. Love the double-neck Mosrite guitar and the Vox Phantom bass.
@@vickiebohy7609 Most certainly, Vickie! 😊 If people wanted a band that could often be *really* silly, there was The Turtles. 🐢 And of the course The Monkees. 😁
One of my favorite bands of that time even though I was quite a bit younger but the songs were great and mark Lindsay great voice so handsome ❤️🌹🌹 Thanks to Paul Revere (R I P.) you formed a great band
When I think of some of the people that are in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame who are not rock ‘n’ roll, and then I hear a vocal like this, I just have to shake my head. It makes no sense ..rock ‘n’ roll is what it is. It’s either a rock ‘n’ roll or not. Why these guys are not in his beyond my comprehension. How about we remove LL Cool J and we put these guys in instead?
And, not only could he scream . . . he could really sing too. Best front man ever in rock and roll . . . yes, better than Jagger. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NTIscMZcE8s.html
@@jv-ep2tc the Hall of Fame was supposed to be an American Institution for rock and roll but just like all things money talks and it's now a popularity contest and to this day "they "think should be in
I heard this song on the radio this morning and had forgotten how great the guitar solo is. Had to RU-vid it for a rewind. This band was goofy in their act but they rocked the joint.
Ha Ha Ha! I have not seen in a while how funny in the 1960 performances these guys were. Puts a smile on my face watching them via RU-vid now and great then. A few of the long list of band members have passed on...two more noted players: Mike "Smitty" Smith on drums (1962 - 1967; 1971 and '72...died in 2009) & Drake "Kid" Levin on lead guitar (1963 - '67...died also in 2009) Yes, the founder, leader of the band, Paul Revere on keyboards (1958 - 2014) also passed away, in 2014. Lead singer, Mark Lindsay and saxophonist did his time with "The Raiders" from 1958 - 1975. Lindsay was one of the biggest "teen-girl to their 20's" idol favorites. I know...because one of my five sisters was crazy about him in the 60's.
One thing about Paul Revere And The Raiders back in the 1960's......their riffs, rhythms, groove, drive, vocalizations, compositions, phrasings, etc.....I mean, this stuff actually carries over very well in the modern-day, if you were to use more distorted guitars, heavier equipment and sonics. I could easily see a band like The Cult pulling-off a cover of this tune, and it wouldn't sound like "an old 60's rock tune just re-made in 2022". It would sound like it was written today. Timeless hard rock.
This song brings back memories of summers in rural Missouri. Our neighbors had a walled-in, lighted brick patio in the backyard that wasn't attached to the house. On some summer weekend nights, with the aroma of corn and cow wafting through the hot, humid air, blonde neighbor girl Cathy would bring her record player out there, we'd all bring our 45s (records, not guns!), and maybe a dozen of us highschoolers would have a dance, rockin' to tunes like this. Check out lead singer Mark Lindsey in a tricorn; he was quite the heartthrob for teen girls.
From what I know of the Raiders song catalog, I have to agree with you. All the meaty tunes were upfront early in their career with Smitty on drums, Drake on lead guitar, and Phil/Fang on bass. Met Fang and his band at Little America in Cheyenne, Wyoming after his Raiders' stint on a business trip in the 70's.
PAUL REVERE & THE RAIDERS-IT'S JUST LIKE ME! HITS THE BILLBOARD HOT 40-100 CHART ON 12/251965+ (1/22/1966-) for 11 Weeks at No. 11 (COLUMBIA RECORDS: VIACOMCBS, Inc.)
I was in love with him at age 5 😄 My babysitter took me to their concert!! I remember thinking she was so beautiful ! Found out she was beautiful because Mick Jagger brought her backstage once. If your out there Pamela I will always remember my cool babysitter 👍♥️
thanks for posting, those were the good ole' days, even though they're lip singing, who cares....good to see them performing as i recall on American Bandstand !
I always thought that the Raiders were the American version of the Stones. Then I checked the dates of their songs vs. the Stones' songs. It may have been the other way around. I know that's heresy, but check "Him or Me" in 1967 vs. "Satanic Majesties" in 1968. Not saying the Raiders were better than the Stones but it is interesting.
This song is still a really rocking tune. It's way before my time but I love these guys. Too bad they're only remembered for the Indian Reservation song.
Still have the original vinyl. A few scratches and pops but it still plays well. Pacific Northwest born and bred. Recorded Louie Louie around the same time and down the street in another studio as The Kingsmen, whose version made rock history. But the Raiders had a bigger, more popular portfolio than the Kingsmen.
This is the "classic" Raiders lineup. in the 70's they had a bunch of poor stand-ins but later on Paul had some outstanding Raiders and they were good musicians.
Underrated ? They had their own TV show and hit after hit ! The girls had their hearts set on the group. You just don’t hear from them anymore because of the passing of Paul Revere ,but you can’t remember when they were on top because you weren’t old enough
Pretty freakin' remarkable. Mark Lindsay was just an awesome rock vocalist who barely gets a mention compared to some other lesser folks. What also might be a bit overlooked is Drake Levin's epic hop and skip solo that is somewhat in the style of the solo in Louie Louie. Shows a real mastery of solo rock guitar. Underneath the shenanigans is a world class rock band.
The Mosrite 6/12 double neck was a rare instrument back then, even rarer now. This song's melody sounds like The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie'' played backwards.
My favorite PR & the Raiders song. One of my favorite bands... but dressing up like clowns really held them back. Their rendition of "Louie Louie" rocks!
