I went to see Paul Simon play live last year - I paid £165 to get a front row ticket - it was the best thing I ever did in a very long time - the man is a musical genius and a true great artist of our time - treasure him.
I find it amazing and have watched it several times. Only now, New Year's Eve 2022, watching Jools Annual Hootenanny, did I realise that the band is not Paul's. That guy on the Bass is just wonderful. Must have been an additional treat for Lake Street Dive to play alongside Paul.
Hello, and welcome to Jazz Club, tonight, swing Jazz. Mmmmm. Nice! The Latin-American rhythms, and innovative instrumentation of South-America, have brought us many great names. Astrud Gilberto, Tito Puente, Carlos Valdorama and Daido Rail. And tonight, perhaps none greater than these, playing live in the studio, Paul Simon. Greeeat.
I loved this song from the moment i saw this performance on Jools Holland. Such a clever guy! Such a crazy , funny , daft idea that SO works . And I played it to my 25 year old daughter , and it drove her nuts , she HATED it instantly ! Ha ha , well , no accounting for taste is there? Brilliant stuff!
+Tommo “HeavyCake” Hawk yes I know its his show i'm not an idiot, i mean why are they giving him credit for the performance in the video title when he doesn't really contribute. I was expecting him to play piano
So much wasted talent up there. You've got Jools sitting at the piano just waiting for a good solo, and a fantastic trumpet player, bass player, lead singer and percussionist relegated to shouts around a microphone. This performance could have easily been a great ensemble affair with some good vibes, but instead it feels bizarrely stale with so many people on stage whose role is only to clap to the beat.
