I met Paul back in the late 70’s when they were touring. I was a helper with the catering before their concert. He was polite and gave me a warm greeting. It was a special time for me, as the public did not know what they looked like without their makeup. Also that day while they were rehearsing, I stood silently watching them, and one of them flicked a Kiss-imprinted guitar pick my way. My boss sent me to their hotel rooms to setup a humidifier in each one. I figured maybe that’s important for their singing voice. .
@@roxannemoser Funny! I was thrilled that he even spoke to me. Basically we were invisible to them at those type of things. I got the opposite feeling from Gené Simmons. While Paul, Ace and Peter rode in on a tour bus, Gene Simmons arrived in a jet later. I think he was dating Cher at that time.
Man Paul has accomplished so much during his 50 years in Kiss and I can honestly say that he’s one of the best singers in rock and roll history no matter what age he is !
PS gives better interviews when Gene is not around. He drops the 'rah, rah, rah' and the sound bites and just speaks his mind. This interview was down to earth and honest.
John L, Gene is a Leo (08/25) so of course he’s all about ego in public but I’ve met him before and while Paul is heart to heart with the fans, Gene’s patience is actually next to off the charts!!!! ❤️
I watched an old interview of the band here on RU-vid and Ace was just taking up all the interviews time. I give credit to Gene, he just sat back and watched Ace make an ass of himself. Paul as usual was level headed and gracious, Peter didn't say to much.
@ Metallic Phoenix, Gene is a Virgo, my man. Yes his bday is 8.25.49, but that makes him a VIRGO-not a Leo (don't take my word for it...look it up). If you're 'into' astrology, you should know that. If you're not, well, here's this: Since Gene is only 3 or 4 days past being a Leo, he likely has some Leo somewhere in his astrological chart, which is what were you referring to, I'm guessing. My hippie parents were amateur astrologers in the 70s, doing charts BY HAND (crazy, I know).
I never went for Kiss, but Paul is an interesting person and always gives intelligent interviews. Good that he's not a druggy, death trip, negative, heavy metal, ego tripping has been. He's a nice guy....Good for him...
+Mark Harris he is a total bullshit artist, you cant believe any of it. He just says what he thinks is cool, and what you might think is cool. HE"S A POSER !!!
Mr Stanley is a very astute, honest and caring individual. You sir are a prejudiced, jealous, jerk. I am a retired, union , Musicians local 47, bassist and play classical and jazz guitars for my own enjoyment now... What do you do, schmuck !! ??
I have no problem with growing old -- I just turned 81. What I fear is the possibility of becoming senile and spending my final years in a wheel chair in a nursing home. A massive heart attack is looking better and better.
I'm 49 and I've had four heart attacks and there is something on the other side trust me I only made it into the light and got booted back to my body serious as a heart attack my grandma is 96 she moved in with us and she can't walk but she can do everything else she's fine
Whatever you do to prepare for old age will not prepare you for the reality. This old age stuff really hurts. NSAIDs and opiates do not fix it. Good thing I already learned to live with pain. Sometimes two fingers of good bourbon helps. Four fingers does not.
Death is a high price to pay to give into ice cream. Cholesterol is a mo fo and will drop any human being straight to the sidewalk and laugh at you for being weak..... then and only then ya think why the f did i cave in. How foolish of me. I've seen this happen
Poor in spirit is for sure not good! But lacking wealth is a blessing because if you really want to be healthy not a problem just STOP eating! Fasting is the best thing you can do if you are sick or preventing sickness. Peace and Grace forever!
MY mom ate everything , ( Italian) she lived to 87. But, my dad died at 55. So, wtf. Who knows. To add, my dad was an insulin dependent diabetic, and, had it for years. So, he was never fat or ate the ‘bad stuff’, so like I said...maybe not all in our control. We have an ‘end date’.
Totalwitchface We're all dead soon he means. Human life is very short! Question one... Was WW2 a long time ago?? Wrong. Most of you probably said "yes" no it wasn't, being literal minded, 74 years ago "in years itself" wasn't that long ago! Eg, in Europe every few months bombs are still found, some live, in Berlin where my fiancee lives one was found when i was there about a year ago. In Poland was a big mf found! Google. Enough to kill for 8 miles if it goes off! So in "Human year's yes the war was a long time ago. We like to try everything even wording to make our lives seem and feel longer. "It was a Decade ago" Huh? 10 year's is nothing! But see how we try to make our lives seem longer. Just a example. Our life is very short so enjoy it while your young and try not to think when you're young ahhhh' that's centuries from now. Because one day your on a date with a girl, your 18 and the next you're burying your wife and live alone
Steve White That cheerful outlook is when you habe your health and under 60 not working a job for peanuts breaking you physically. My wife is dead from suicide after 24 years and in a long distance relationship at the moment. "Hey Paul can you help me? Lol
Steve White Sorry if i seem tense if you will, some days the anxiety i guess. I'm 53 and starting to feel the pain from my job. Paul's got it made, he's got more money than me n my kids n grandkids could spend lol
Thanks to todays technology we get to see a side of our rock stars we never would've. its so weird to think that I was 14 when I fell in love with Kiss. Now I'm on the other side of life and see things differently.I went thru the who cares about Kiss in college and then the nostalgia phase about 10 years ago. Great respect for these guys and all they've endured. Paul seems the most down to earth. Thanks for the interview and being honest.
Thank God he didn't go the route of Ace. Ace destroyed himself with drugs & alcohol and now I am not sure if Ace could even be Ace anymore if he came back into Kiss. Ace is such a big influence on my gtr playing but I am very disappointed with him. Paul, on the other hand, I am pretty proud of, and I still love his talents and his songs.
@@booifojoe .....OK. Then what would explain Keith Richards still being alive after all these years of self abuse, if it isn't sheer good luck? He and others are rock musicians---where stupid just comes with the territory and I'll bet half of them didn't finish high school. These people are not the best and brightest minds ever to be found and they certainly don't make good decisions about their health and finances.
msr111 True; it seems if they made enough $$ and didn't blow it all they could eventually live long enough to wise up and treat their body better. Many HAVE died because they could do none of these. Rush, Queensryche, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest all played into their 50-'s- 60's. They 'made it'. Sometimes $$ can buy an extra leash on life
Love this interview of Paul Stanley. He's authentic here, no BS, no fluff-and-puff bragging, and even the tiny bit of ego that pops up is addressed in a very honest manner (i.e. being addicted to the flattery he receives when attending his wife's aerobic class). I respect this man's frank honesty. Well done, PS, and the person asking the interview questions.
Agree 100%, I’ve never been a massive Kiss fan they’ve done some quality tunes over the years I’ll give them that and I totally respect the hard work they’ve done to become so successful, I do find Paul very engaging and can listen to him for hours, having listened to Face the Music on audiobook has underlined my utter most respect and admiration for him.
@@crushsatan Yes, I heard him say, "I may be dying, but I gotta keep going!" Like a little boy, still trying to impress the girls that he can keep up. lol This is a man who, despite being married for a long time, has not given up.
@@crushsatan It may be true to say that for some adults, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's natural (as if to imply it's inherent to all). All we have to do is look around the world and we can see millions of examples of people who either have given up on that, or simply are not interested in that. There are also a minority who are inherently incapable of caring about that (because they're incapable of "caring" at all). If it were as natural as you suggest, the world would not be populated with people who (seemingly?) do not care, or who have stopped caring somewhere along the way. While that isn't exclusive to married individuals, I've heard many wives and husbands complain of that being the case for their spouse. It will come very naturally to most all young children and to those adults who are developmentally arrested in early childhood, especially extroverted, and externally motivated because they have no inner way to regulate any genuine self-worth unless someone outside of them is providing it. Think of how physically fit all of society would be if it were actually "natural'? This is precisely why he talks about the "discipline" it requires.
@@paulstanley323 Why don't you guys please stop touring? When I was 9 years old I heard Kiss for the first time in 1974 and Kiss became like oxygen to me. I couldn't live without Kiss. The band's best years were most definitely 1974 to 1982. I've seen Kiss three times in concert ( including the 2000 so called "Welfare Tour") and after that tour, that's when you guys should have stopped. That should have been it because you have been making fools of yourselves ever since! I never thought I would say that ever! Paul, please stop and just go home because you just look ridiculous.
glenny oc Osteo arthritis aka degenerative joint disease can destroy your knees and hips without much..but Paul did spend alot of time walking around in those 6in platform shoes and running around on stage, the impact of walking in those and running around with that xtra weight will do damage as well. Not to mention that genetics plays a HUGE part, my shoulders and knees went bad in my 40s due to a problem many people of Nordic descent have, a few of my uncles and one parent have it as well.
Are you sure you're not getting confused with Dave Lee Roth? Never seen Stanley Do a above the waste kick ever. He's been pretty agile and fit but not in the maniac league.
***** he is on his 3rd or 4th hip now, both shoulder rotator cuffs, and his knees... still out there. still rocking. and still healthy. Also deaf in right ear.
what a lovely guy, I have been in awe of this man for 35 years, read his recent book, one greatly underrated front man, worked very very hard to get where he is, and still manages to stay so down to earth, not many people are like that. Paul Stanley was my first love and he will be my last
Stan, I want to thank you and the band for so many great years of music - I was a little kid when I first heard you guys and now I am 56 and still listen - thank you again.
I am 62 1/2. He has more hair on his head than me. Does sound like he is not druggie which is good to hear. I had one rotator cuff issue, but no surgery at the moment
I wouldn't say that. It all depends on how soon you start taking care of yourself and how long you keep it up. I've managed to stay "young" a lot longer than that. At 41 I'm in much better shape than most guys 10 or even 20 years younger than me.
Yeah women especially after 30 we are considered old my Mom told me have fun while you can don't get pregnant as a teenager like she did and I took her advice I don't mind being older now I had my fun lots of it I won't regret wasting my youth. I had a full time job and a dog lived alone so responsible but could go to any shows or drink or date whoever I wanted.
You make it sound like an inconvenience. For hundreds of thousands of years humans rarely lived longer than old enough to procreate. That is our primary biological function. In the last 100 years the human lifespan rose astonishingly high thanks to medical breakthroughs like anti-antibiotics and industrial farming. Hell, germ theory was not a thing until 1850! Previous to that medical practice was as effective as witchcraft with worse outcomes! We are living in the greatest time in history and all we can do is bemoan the fact that we only have 10-15 good years to enjoy our procreation zenith.
When Paul was a young man on stage I was a young man on the front row. Wealth has nothing to do with a man at our stage in life, which I consider to be quiet rich in and of itself . All respect from this fan for this video. Rock on Bro......
I saw Kiss for the first time not so long ago. My mom saw them in the 70’s lol ..This dude and his band freaking jam! I never thought I would be into there music but they blew me away!! Rock on Paul!
Eri Airlangga Nope ..wrong ..sorry ..never was ..next !! Paul didn't used to talk or be out there like he is today but they are selling the KISS BRand so they stay on tour as much as possible & they are always in the media ,,good or bad (see Gene $immons) its all about promoting there brand ...$$$$KISS$$$
I think his discipline shows in his life. He's in his 60's and still can get up and do a cool show every night. His voice is shot but, he still gives it his all.
evidently, his voice comes and goes. I saw them on the last tour and he sounded good. I have seen some video clips and I couldn't believe how badly he sounded. I saw one of him doing Strutter and I don't think he was in key the whole song
Paul, like any singer his age (especially rock/metal) has lost some of his range, but I wouldn't say is voice is 'shot' - some nights he's a little rough, probably from not enough rest between shows - but most nights he's still on, other than not being able to hit the high notes he did twenty years ago. It's hit and miss sometimes, but that's how it goes with live music.
gooogle bites Jewiness, huh? I guess we know what you're all about. Did Ace change his name to hide his "Dutch-iness"? Did Peter change his name to hide his "Italian-iness"? They ALL changed their names to sound cooler - to match their makeup and stage personas. It's been common knowledge for years that Paul and Gene are Jewish; they don't 'hide' their heritage, they're proud of it. Since you don't use your real name, what are you hiding? By the way; capitalization and punctuation help to make your posts readable, try it some time.
According to my computations and analytics run on my Computer that would translate to around 5 or 6 human years. Does that compute with your analytics?
@@paulstanley9586 Hi Paul! I love your music and your style. I dressed as you when I went to a KISS concert in Calgary in 1977. Best concert ever. Hugs, Cathy
I love Paul's approach to life, everything being in moderation. Sure, the older you get, the more observant you need to be about your diet and lifestyle. But at the same time, indulging is fine every once in a while - you can't totally deprive yourself of "guilty pleasures," if you will. Life truly is about enjoying it and yourself.
Just went to a book signing in Beaverton...Paul seems happy with his life..he was pleasant and looked at me in the eye...said thanks for coming..along with a big smile..I've never ever in my life wanted to follow any band...cept for a few Megadeth ..(one time)..wont be going to any more big concerts..so this was perfect..up close and personal. A great memory!
Maybe the US world. The rest of us just think of them as a sort of eccentric band with no memorable songs such as Free's Alright Now which is fairly contemporary to Kiss but I can't think of any similar evergreen by Kiss.
Paul is awesome! All the best to him for bringing us so much entertainment over the past 40+ years. I’m 57 now, and I can relate to what he is now saying about having self discipline in regards to taking care of yourself. -Stephen, Ohio
Thats awesome to be that age and still be in shape and work hard to stay that way, I respect Paul for his healthy attitude but also respect his love for life!
Paul Stanley has always seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Like if you forgot about Kiss he'd be a cool guy to kick back with on the deck and drink a few beers.
MechanicalAnimal of the two remaining founders of Kiss I'd much rather interview Paul than Gene. Paul comes across as a genuine person while Gene is always trying to tell you what a good business guy he is and is constantly selling the fucking band. There is nothing Gene can tell me about either because I don't kiss anyone's ass for the length of time that dildo would take to tell me the two aforementioned items.
Flyers 50 It's sad but I have to agree with you 100%. Obviously love Gene's playing and respect him immensely for his music contributions but yeah...I just wish he would shut up sometimes in interviews and such. He comes across as only in it for the money which surely can't be the truth. He's probably realizing right about now that money really isn't what life is all about. In the end money is worthless.
i'd like to forget about kiss for just a moment and nibble gently on his mushroomy little ear while dabbing his 65 year old butt hole with a q-tip slathered in black salve and just wait and see if we can produce a black diamond of our very own. down to earth dude stuff.
He's looking like he is doing well physically, good for him. I think out of the 70's/80's rock and roll crowd, those who went healthy are doing a lot better, and it's not a mystery as to why. You can't live the crazy life forever, even some don't make it out alive in their younger years, doing that.
@@blacklikethesun Very good point!! I didn't realize that, thank you for being more alert to the full facts than I was. Still looking good for what would have been around 62 years old though :)
Hey I was listening that kiss at 5 years old I'm 47 years old I grew up with these guys and I'm growing old with these guys ! You know I believe the great spirit takes care of us all and no matter what we go through in life he's always at the end standing there waiting ! And brothers and sisters it seems in 2021 we have a choice to make ! If we want to keep on going living like we used to and negativity and hell and fire and brimstone that's okay ! But you know sometime in your life the party freaking ends and it's just time to settle down and collect your thoughts before you move on to the other side ! You know a lot of us has had near death of experiences and most of us haven't but those who have their lives are changed forever ! Especially if you're in show Business sometimes the things you see in show Business can scare the living hell out of you ! But anyway God bless Paul Stanley and the band and the families and God bless you and thank you! Hey the thing about being old for me is a people come to me now for wisdom !!
I saw kiss in 80 , the reson why i saw tghem was because a guy owed me money so he repaid me with 2 kiss tickets and so i trabelled 450 km to the concert and ill never forget the minute paul stanley started simging detroud rock city and he screamed the lyrics and suddenky i realised how brilliant he was and i knew back then he was a nice guy coz i checked into a motel and little did i know kiss was on the top floor ...a real inspiration but sadly like all of us hes aged and hes doing his best to keep healthy ..a great guy
This is a real neat interview. I really enjoy hearing him talk about all he's been through. Most rock stars always throw out the glam for us and tell us everything is great. YEAH, ok then .. Lets hear about the human stuff. Getting old will always get em.
Well, consider the fact that he can STILL jump, run and dance around stages tour after tour in those 7 inch boots, at his age....Hell, I could not even walk in those things even if I was 25 again.
LOL! That would be a great sound bite. Of course, any youth that didn't get drowned in mortality by family should have felt invincible for those years ... add on being internationally god-like and that just blows it thru the roof!
Well I would say back then a lot old people were 'old' in there minds. Now that he is older physically, he is not 'old' in mind and spirit. I too dislike 'old' people, but not old people. My body is 59.75 years(January 1962)old, but my mind and spirit are nowhere near that. When people find out my age, there are surprised, because I don't seem 'old'. I am also lucky in that my blonde hair hides my grey quite well, but it is mostly my spirit and attitude.
Greatest musician in the musical industry. Thank you Mr.Stanley for the health information keep up the great work because it's working ...you look great !!!
You hear a lot of things good and bad about celebrities .it’s good to see an interview like this with Paul.Just another guy who has the same ailments as the rest of us.Great interview.
100+ class act. Paul, thank you for giving the world and myself the best dam front man, performance, song's and the meaning of a real rock star and musician. I love you. Thank you for picking up that first guitar and following through with your dreams.
Paul hit the nail on the head when he said that it is okay to eat the foods you like in "moderation." It is funny that he mentioned it in this video because my late 96 year-old father used to tell me that all of the time.
Edward Verhoef I don't understand you kiddo. Paul is a nice guy, I talked to him a few times in the early eighties while I was working for Dokken and again while touring with DIO in the early 2000's. Gene was usually nearby and always had a chip on his shoulder acting like an asshole about something or anything. If it hurts your feelings that I've known some famous people and you haven't , live with it.
first of all i,m not a kiddo i,m 48 yrars old and i talked to paul and gene in 1977 and in 1996 and 1988 and in 2010 so i know a lot of both i also have a lot of foto,s with the original members and also the new members come on tell me more hahaha
I recall an interview Paul did on the radio saying how he drove a cab in NYC and dropped people off at Madison Square Garden to see concerts. He promised himself that one-day cabs would drop people off at Madison Square Garden to see him. Well, he achieved his dream. That is what life is all about, not the actual 'making it' part, but knowing the impossible is possible as long as you really want it.
I love you and love your killer attitude towards life Paul Stanley! Saw you live in Fresno Ca 1977 when Cheap Trick opened for KISS...and just saw your last show in Fresno 2018!! Seriously the best band in the land to date.. and you'll always be my favorite Paul! Love you to the moon...because you're still HOT and you rock!
Like millions of other people my age, I was in the Kiss Army back in the day. I loved them all, especially Ace and Peter. But I think Paul is ultimately the best sport and most mature member of the band. Good for you, Paul. Rock on.
