More than 20 years after her first release , the McLaren F1 is still an amazing supercar ... and she became an icon ... thanks , Mr Gordon Murray , and BMW for that incredible engine !!
looks like all the people criticizing his driving need to learn a thing or two. He is not all over the place, he cuts where he can and stays on his lane on blind corners. According to people who have driven the car, the gearbox takes time to use fast. And there is a reverse lockout that he couldnt figure out how to use fast.
@JK F1 Considering he's driving a very difficult manual car up a mountain pass, I think he's doing an excellent job on the road. Spend a lot of miles and a lot of hours in very, very fast manual sports cars on roads like this and you'll have an understanding for how he's driving. Considering the capability of the car and the traffic on the road, he's being very reasonable.
ya. you have one of the legends, with the legendary car. normal people have to realize, they don't even compare to what this man is capable of…its all ignorance and self indulgence.
Listen to use the best V12 but makes me wonder what if Honda agreed to have designed a V12 that Gordon Murray had requested. That would have been crazy if they would have had VTec Incorporated in that engine. But this engine from BMW basically incorporates the first generation of Vanos which is sort of kind of like VTech without the lift and duration but more less and extreme amount of overlap
JOSEPH WIEMERT Yes , Gordon Murray didn’t choose Honda accidentally. Shame they refused to develop engine for F1 , I guess it would be much much better and develop non less but 700 bhp ...
This engine's torque curve is so good it doesn't need any of that. There's 80% torque everywhere in the rev range and it hardly drops at the limit. So good was the torque on tap that the car actually made quite a bit more power when the rev limiter was pushed to 8300 rpm for it's record run. So much torque is available at idle that it can also go from 1st to 6th from a standstill with no accelerator input. From 30 mph to 240 mph, the car can do it all in 6th. In fact modern V12's like the LaFerrari or Aston Martin Valkyrie make only a bit more torque than the F1's BMW engine, they make more power only by spinning faster. If this engine could spin to 11000 revs it too could make 1000 bhp. And 10500 revs/sec response rate, no wonder the throttle response is like lightning. Paul Rosche was a genius!
lol at 0.44 the driver is like i have a mclaren behind me, just over take me already! Tho fair play to the driver not being an idiot over taking on a hill or corner, very disciplined, especially in an f1
Brake noise has got to be one of the most annoying sounds in the world. Right up there with nails on a black board but if I was driving a F1 it would be like music to my ears.
Imagine if a McLaren pulled up in your driveway like that, you'd have to go outside and make the guy lunch, just for gracing you with the sight and sound of the greatest supercar ever built. And beg for a ride :)
I don't know if its because of the camera angle or driver but that didn't look that fast at all tbh didn't look like hard acceleration maybe it's jut me
its a bumpy alpine road. you don't want to use all the 100% of torque on wheels in these conditions. the car like that without traction control will spin out EASILY! So he is somewhat sensible.
It`s like smurfs...when you are quiet and patient you will find some McLaren F1 on switzerlands mountain roads ^^" This guy should be happy that he wasn`t catched by cops!! This kind of driving sends him right into the jail!
I'm not sure about those squeaky brakes. The rotors are probably distorted. I mean, I'm sure it's hard to find parts for a McLaren F1, but I'm not sure how fast I'd be driving it.
Do you know how many times when riding my bike my life is put in danger because of drivers who cut corners "when the road is clear"?... Those who reason like this should not be allowed to drive.
+rasvial but still for over 20 years was the fastest production car in the world the record was only beaten in the 21st century by the Veyron so this car was an engineering marvel
yes, it's a one trick pony- I didn't say anything about it's speed. I just said it sounds rough and broke down. (the driver even mentioned it having clumsy throttle response) If I'm spending however much it is for that car, it's not because it used to be the fastest- it's because I want to drive fast. And that looks more likely to break down fast then do much driving
you're claiming american cars are built with broken transmissions.. I'm not saying American cars are any better, I just pointed out that this car doesn't sound right, and its broken
Oh for fuck sake another ignorant fool with an opinion. Virtually the whole car is German mate. I can't hear any of these noises you talk about all I hear is the awesome rythmic sound of that BMW V12. So do us a favour and shut up. You have absolutely no idea about cars and your mind can't comprehend engineering because you sit in front of an Xbox all day. Gtfo
