Tracy was a hell of a racer, I never understood the Indycar hate, it's always been a great series with top level drivers plus I love the street and airfield type tracks.I would have liked 2 see Al Unser Jr do an F1 season
@@kinafermusic2456 CART/Champcar was also called the ppg indycar series. Not to be confused with the indy racing league (IRL) which raced exclusively on ovals for the first several years
I followed this back in it's day. If I remember correctly, Paul Tracy set the 6th fastest time that day. What he and his father did not like about the contract was that it didn't gaurantee a starting spot and Tracy could have ended up as strictly a test driver.
@@azynkron I think Tracy would have done very well in F1. His "win or crash trying to win" mentality aside, he was always on the knife's edge in lap times. One track (I can't remember which) had to be re-measured because of his blistering practice lap times.
Four laps was not much of an experience for Paul to get his feet wet with. I don't think he had the temperament for F1 though, the cars were much more delicate than Indy cars and everybody in F1 was at least as fast as him. He would have been frustrated and it would have boiled over for him. And yes, he was not in the type of fitness needed for F1.
As I recall he did his test on worn tires. I'm sure he would have adapted to F1 cars with no problem. Driving an Indy car isn't worlds different and he's a highly skilled driver. I wonder why he never made the jump....
first off, im pretty sure tracy is canadian, second villeneuve had no problems with the jump (between 96 and 03 he was only beaten by a teammate twice)
Schumacher set 1:18.84, and Tracy 1:21.35 next day. So, we have difference 2.52 seconds only and different weather and Jos Verstappen's car, which was not so fast as Michael's. www.motorsport.com/f1/news/estoril-testing-time-for-tracy-on-94-09-30/
Why would a team make only one car faster and leave the other car slower?!? So you are saying the team made conscious effort that only one car is able to get into points? #mindblown
I like very much paul tracy, even if he didnt race in f1, i think he coul be well if he decides to remain in benetton, tracy had a contract but non the garancy of second driver
This is like saying Senna was slower then Emerson when he tested an Indycar. Of course Tracy and Senna were slower - they were in a new car on a new track. It'll take a while for them to get up to speed.
@@fordfocusonme senna wasn t slower, when they used the same car senna in the last lap was fastest with penske pc21,after emerson tested the new car penske pc22 with new set of slick tyres and he was fastest, when speak a fact must be correct in the details
And that was skinny Paul Tracy. Down the line PT would have never fitted in the car. 🤣🤣. Pt was a great racer tho. Miss those great fights with Seabass 😎
